Mercury is just SO. DARN. PURTY.
“I don’t quite know how to do it, but I WILL use these claws on you, Hubble. You better back off!”
Stardust will have you know that paws are tasty.
“Lady, I don’t know what Telstar is doing, but I do NOT approve.” Stardust: sheriff in the making.
A few of you have mentioned the mark on Phoenix’s forehead and the various things it looks like (a kiss being the most popular). I will try to get some closeup pictures of it soon, and we can decide!
Phoenix, reentering the atmosphere.
It’s funny how there are two comforters on top of a layer of washable pads, on top of a really cushy area rug, and they still all cram themselves onto that folded-up blanket.
On Friday, we were gone from the house for most of the day. When we got home in the evening, I walked into the foster room, and I swear it looked like there’d been monkeys there, flinging poop everywhere. I cleaned it up the best I could and put clean blankets down over the stains, since I didn’t have time – and was too tired – to pull up all the stuff on the floor and replace it. We were busy again Saturday, and there was more poop when I got home. I despaired, cleaned up the best I could, and wondered if they’d ever get the hang of the litter boxes.
(Yes, that’s me. Worrying about the fact that 4 1/2 week old kittens were pooping and peeing outside the litter box and walking through it. As 4 1/2 week old kittens do. It’s in their job description.)
Sunday I finally got all the washable pads and quilts pulled up and replaced… and the kittens have been just about perfect at using the litter box since. I mean, they’re still pretty young, and I know there’ll be more accidents, but they’re doing really well. Hubble even climbed into Mercury’s litter box (which is about twice as tall as he is) and used it.
I wondered if the kittens would ever start eating food on their own, since I hadn’t seen any sign of it, but when I walked into the room and put a plate of pate cat food down yesterday afternoon, Aurora RUSHED over to it and started eating. She ate so much – and so neatly – that I’m sure this wasn’t the first time she’d eaten cat food, just the first time I saw it. I had noticed that one of the bowls of kibble was being emptied pretty regularly, and just assumed that Mercury was eating more since her kittens are getting bigger and eating more. Now I’m thinking they’re probably eating kibble (or at least some of them are) and I just haven’t seen them in action.
These babies certainly are growing up, WAY too fast!
