Between 5 and 7 am this morning (central time), Meander birthed 6 kittens!
She had the first 4 before I got up at 6:00, had the 5th while I was downstairs telling Fred that she’d had 4 “And I think she’s done!”, and the 6th while I was in the shower just minutes later.
I initially thought we had 4 siamese mix, 1 orange and I thought the last one might be a buff, but as time goes by and he/she dries, I think we’ve actually got 5 siamese mixes and 1 orange.
Kittens are vigorous and nursing, Meander is happy and purring!

Babka takes flight! (She stuck the landing.)
And off he goes! (He also stuck the landing.)
Pita says “Okay, let’s do this!”
There she goes! (And yep, she made it too.)
She got the crinkly ball as a prize.
Pumpernickel shows off his teef.
It’s a Ciabatta-Babka pie, is what it is. (My favorite!)

After requiring me to come to her in the window bed (or on the cat tree) to pet her for almost two full days…
Finally realized that when I sit down on the floor and call to her, she could actually, y’know, get down on the floor and come over to me. And that I’ll sit there and pet her as long as she wants!
At one point she nearly climbed into my lap, but then decided to just flop down against my legs instead. She spent all day yesterday either in the window bed or checking out the crate. She also decided that it was time for me to learn that she is a TALKER (so unusual for a tortie, right?), and that girl REALLY likes to hear herself talk.
I really expect kittens at any time, but we all know that I know nothin’, so we shall see.

The magnificent Khal is really enjoying this sunny, warm weather we’re having currently.

Say hello to our new foster, Meander. She is about 18 months old, came to us on Sunday, and yes – she is pregnant. She’s very sweet, and I look forward to getting to know her.
The Crumbs are 10 weeks old as of yesterday! This is what they look like now – real cats! – and everyone gave me a “smile” this week.
Weights as of yesterday are:
Pumpernickel: 3.13 lb/ 1.42 kg
Babka: 2.71 lb/ 1.23 kg
Crouton: 2.54 lb/ 1.15 kg
Pita: 2.78 lb/ 1.26 kg
Ciabatta: 2.89 lb/ 1.31 kg

Up they go, like popcorn in the air.

Line ’em up! From left: Crouton, Pumpernickel, Pita, Ciabatta and Babka. (They’re looking at a feather teaser – they’ve been introduced to Churu and they like it, but they don’t look at it this way yet.)

It took Meander about two days to decide I’m okay. She hopped down to the floor to greet me when I walked into the room, and it turns out she’s a talker (a talkative tortie? Shocking!) She’s also Da BAYbee. It’s good to have that question answered this early on.
If we don’t have babies this evening or overnight, I am going to be VERY surprised.
“Hey, you think you could do me a favor when you have your kittens and have a variety pack, so I can tell them apart?” I asked Meander.
“Ohhhh, I’m so sorry. I’ve got you marked down for 6 identical brown tabbies. Better luck next time!”
Good night innernets. (Babka)
