Tossing toys for Canasta. ❤️
Good night innernets. (Canasta)
“You shall not touch the belly.” (Actually, she’s gotten a lot more relaxed about letting me touch the belly lately. Still haven’t felt any movement yet!)

Charlie and Canasta playing. Well, kinda playing. He’s a little scared of her.

Canasta’s belly comparison! On the left, January 10th – she weighed 8 pounds, 2 ounces. On the right, January 24th – and she weighed 9 pounds, 6 ounces. What a difference two weeks makes!
It’s Toesday and as such, get a load of Canasta’s beans!

I can see belly movement! It’s very subtle – nothing like the crazy alien belly movement we’ll see as she gets closer to having them – but it’s definitely there. Google tells me that once you see kittens moving, they’re in the final two weeks of pregnancy, so that’s my final (for now) prediction: kittens before February 9th!

Remember Bunny? Look how WONDERFUL she looks now! This girl DESPERATELY needs a home of her own and though she will have an adjustment in the beginning, she would prefer to be an only or with one other cat who would leave her alone. (She’s also okay with nice dogs who’ll leave her alone.) If this gorgeous floofy girl seems like the perfect addition to YOUR family, email Forgotten Felines of Huntsville at info (at) ffhsv.org to get the ball rolling. ❤️
When the toes need cleaning, but they’re on the other side of that belly.

If I don’t pet (permanent resident) Khal, he looks at my hand and turns his head. If I still don’t pet him, he turns his head ’til it’s pretty much upside down. I managed to get the magnificent boy on video doing his thing. He cracks me UP.

Update on Sophie from Crystal (Sophie needed emergency surgery a few weeks ago, and we shared her GoFundMe) –
Just wanted to give you another update. Unfortunately, things seem to keep going wrong for Sophie. She had her first chemo treatment on Thursday and progressively got worse. She stopped eating and was very lethargic. I took her to the ER 2x and was told it was normal. Finally, I called her oncologist and they said it absolutely was not normal.
So back to the ER – where they found that she has mild kidney disease that was intensified by the chemo. She is also very anemic (chronic anemia). She is back in the hospital now while they try to get her body to start making red blood cells again and to get her kidneys level as well.
I’m not sure what this means for future chemo treatment. That conversation hasn’t happened yet. We certainly can’t go through this again so I think I’ll have to make some tough decisions on her care soon.
It’s been an incredibly stressful month emotionally and financially. Thank you again for the additional donations from the Love and Hisses community. You guys have been so amazing and I’ve appreciated your donations, well-wishes, and notes of concern. I’ve left my gofundme page open – – since she keeps collecting more bills.
Attached are a photo of her with her sister (they’ve been inseparable when she’s been home) and a “Stop taking me to the ER, lady” face.

Here’s something not at all cat-related. A throw back to 2008, when one of our chickens (Flappy McGee) laid a “monster egg” with another entire egg inside (back then, we were living in the country in a house we called Crooked Acres.) Fred was so excited about it that he called the local newspaper… and they SENT A REPORTER OUT TO COVER IT. Not only did they do a story, they did a FRONT PAGE story (and we sounded like total hicks). We recorded ourselves reading the article, putting on our most southern voices. Every time this comes up in my memories I listen to the entire thing, laughing the whole way through.
We take our fun where we can find it.
(If you Google “Flappy McGee Monster Egg”, the article is still available for viewing. We only changed the name of our town when we were reading it, in the interest of privacy – not realizing that all you had to do was Google a little to find exactly what tiny town we lived in. Duh.)
Laundry’s done! Thank you for your help, Canasta.

Throw back Thursday to my most amazing “alien belly” video: Emmy, in 2012. I’d never seen a pregnant cat belly move that way; it was mesmerizing! (She had her kittens that night, so was likely in the early stages of labor when I took this video.) She ended up having 4 kittens.
Good night innernets. ❤️ (Canasta)
Little bit of attitude. (Yes, Canasta is a total lapcat!)

The Forgotten Felines of Huntsville auction is NOW going on over on the Facebook auction page. 30 items just went up, including this framed picture of (permanent resident) Archie and his minions; there’s some great hand-crafted stuff and collectibles too. There’ll be more stuff added this afternoon, and more each morning – the auction lasts until next Saturday evening, so don’t miss out! All proceeds benefit the Forgotten Felines of Huntsville General Medical Fund.
