Nick’s all “Hmm… nah. I’m good in here, thanks!”
Myrtle, telling Jay to come out and explore with her.
That’s a yawn from Zelda. They look like they’re settling down for a nap (or maybe just waking up from one).
Jay can’t decide if he wants in the crate or outta the crate. Tough decision, little man.
Nick’s keeping an eye on Jay (who came out of the crate just after I snapped this picture.)
“Mama, Mama, Mama, is the milk bar open yet?”
“Check back later, kid.”
Zelda looks like she’s Seen Some Stuff.
Jay does some more exploring. That cabinet he’s looking at, by the way, is the cabinet where Mimosa had her kittens last year. I think it looks much better painted white.)
Ta DAH! Nick FINALLY came out of the crate – and it was just a matter of seeing his siblings at the milk bar that got him to finally make the move.
So now all the kittens have come out of the crate and done some exploring. They come out, explore, and then go back into the crate. They clearly consider that their safe space, and that is certainly fine with me.
Now that they’re all able to come out (and go back in), I’ve set up a couple of small litter boxes filled with nonclumping litter. They’ve all checked them out, but no one is very interested – though if there aren’t multiple kittens using the litter boxes by the end of the weekend, I’ll be very, very surprised. (Usually there’s one smartypants who uses the litter box a day or two before they turn 4 weeks old, and in the week between 4 and 5 weeks old, they all start. Generally speaking, by the time they’re 6 weeks old they’ve got the litter box all figured out. Hopefully these guys will follow suit.)
Edited to add: Oh, never mind. Literally while I was typing that paragraph Zelda climbed into the litter box and peed. Have I mentioned that I think these kittens are a bit advanced for their age?

Oh, that floofy, fantastic Khal.

Posted on social media (Facebook/Twitter/Instagram/Tumblr) yesterday.
Another day, another round of Nick playing “I think I’ll leave the crate – ORRR maybe NOT!”

Myrtle “discovers” the milk bar, and then does some exploring (as do Jay and Zelda). I love seeing them out of the crate!
“Watchin’ you, lady.” From left: Jay (front), Myrtle (back), Zelda & Nick.

Everyone but Nick, out exploring. I have a feeling that Nick is going to just come EXPLODING out of that crate when he’s ready (and not before), and will never return to it.
Good night innernets. (I’m not sure Jay really wants to go to sleep, but I don’t think he’s got a choice, they’ve got him pretty well pinned down.)
