I don’t know what had Zelda’s attention, but she was fascinated!
Jay’s all “Yeah, I told her there’s room for her in the cubby, but she wants to sleep up top. I dunno. She’s weird.”
Myrtle found a spot of sun and she’s pretty sure she likes it.
Myrtle, Zelda and Jay. You think there’s a feather teaser up there? (There is!)
Just a mama in her box, enjoying some quiet time.
Nick wonders what we’re doin’.
Regarding Daisy: not this past Saturday but the Saturday before, someone wanted to meet her and also meet another cat who was at Petsmart. Since they were doing adoption hours at Petsmart, I said I could bring Daisy to Petsmart, and the people could meet Daisy and the other cat and make a decision. I was curious to see how Daisy would do in a new situation like that.
How’d she do? Well, there was a kitten walking around the cat room, and he kept coming over and sniffing at Daisy and hissing, and Daisy just looked at him like “What’s your problem, kid?” She was a little nervous at first, but then she settled in the top of a small cat tree and just sat there and watched the world go by.
The people who came to meet her and the other cat decided on Daisy (they really liked how chill she is), filled out the application and then… nothin’. I don’t know if they changed their minds or what, but they haven’t returned any phone calls. So Daisy is still available… and on the up side, we know how she is around other cats and in new situations (briefly a little nervous, but adapts very quickly), so at least there’s that. I would love it if she were adopted and could go home straight from here and could avoid a stay at Petsmart, but y’know. That doesn’t always happen.
Fortunately, there’s not really any rush (her kittens won’t be spayed/neutered for another few weeks). If a super chill, very sweet girl 3 year old kitty with paws the size of Texas seems like she’d be the perfect fit for your home, drop an email to Forgotten Felines of Huntsville at info (at) ffhsv.org to inquire. (We’re in the Huntsville, Alabama area. Out of area adoptions are allowed, but adopters must come here (or near here) to complete the adoption. (She is spayed, microchipped, and up to date on all her vaccinations.) (PS: There’s a longer description of her down in the “posted on social media” section toward the bottom of the page.)

Oh, that Plover. Always with a few drops of formula at the corners of her mouth. She’s saving that for later!
Wren the lapcat. I lovelovelove her random splashes of orange.
Starling says “Psst! You gots a bottle over there, lady?”
Wren is feelin’ smug and sleepy. The perfect combination!
So Rufous is 5 weeks old, Starling and Plover are 4 weeks old, and Wren will be 6 weeks old tomorrow. You’d think that Wren miiight be showing even the slightest bit of interest in canned food or kibble, but you would be very wrong. That girl wants the bottle, and nothing else. She might swallow canned food or baby food if I put it in her mouth, but then again she might just spit it right back out. I know all the tricks to getting kittens to eat solid food, but I also know that if a kitten doesn’t want to eat solid food, you can just go straight to hell with all your tricks. She’ll show interest eventually (or perhaps I’ll be interrupting her college Trig class to ask if she wants more bottle, whatever), but I’m not going to stress about it, and you can’t make me.
Rufous has shown little interest in solid food until yesterday morning when he walked right on over to the plate of canned food and started eating. Like I said: they do it when they’re ready. (Plover and Starling are still a bit young for solid food. I’ll give them a few more days before I offer them some, though there’s always a plate on the kitchen floor at feeding time.) There’s a bowl of kibble and a bowl of water in their playpen. Rufous has eaten some kibble, but for the most part everyone just enjoys walking through the bowl and getting kibble everywhere and if I pick up Plover or Starling and say “Why are your feet wet?” I know perfectly well why: because they walked through the bowl of water. (Better feet wet with water than with pee, I say.)
Most everyone is peeing in the litter box, at least. That’s progress I’m happy to see!

Posted on social media (Facebook/Twitter/Instagram/Tumblr) this weekend.
Today marks 18 years since our very first foster litter – May 19, 2005 I introduced Mia and her five kittens: Edgar, Snoopy, Peanut, Flossie and Oy. (This was back before we had litter naming themes, obviously.) We’ve been fostering ever since, though we took 1 year off from fostering after we adopted two fosters later that year (❤️Tommy and Sugarbutt ❤️).
Including our current bunch, we are at a total of 501 cats and kittens fostered!
Last summer we had a litter named after characters from Outlander. Their mama was this beautiful dilute tortie named Jocasta. She’s now Dolce (that’s her in the middle back) and she and her sisters Kahlua and Tortillini like to steal the dog bed (of course they do!) Doesn’t she look wonderful? Sweet, happy girl! ❤️
(Thanks Meredith!)

Can you tell I have a hard time keeping up with them when they’re racing around like this? Also, Daisy’s trying to have some quiet time in her box, and will the kittens just leave her to it? Of course not!
In my lap, from left: Wren, getting ready to climb up the front of my shirt. Rufous, needing 700 kisses. Starling, forever at the bottle, and Plover considering making a run for the bottle.

One thing the Nestling kittens like to do when their bellies are full is roll around and wrestle with each other, and it’s seriously cute.
Good night innernets. (Zelda and Myrtle)
We’ve got a case of lights-on, no-one-home going on here with Zelda!
Rufous and Wren are playing a rousing game of “I’ve got your nose!”
The castle is perfect for those times when you need to keep an eye out for the approaching enemy!

Bottle babies doin’ what they do. In this order: Rufous, Rufous, Wren, Starling, Rufous & Plover (yes, Rufous is in there more than once mostly because I’m still so thrilled that I no longer have to tube feed him!)
Good night innernets. (Plover and Rufous)
Nick is getting very, very leggy!
A sweet little lapful. Rufous and Plover (under Wren) are sleeping. Wren’s considering dropping off to sleep. And Starling? At the bottle, of course.

It’s always wild in the kitten room (unless they’re sleeping!)
Just a reminder that Daisy is AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION. Read her description (below) and email Forgotten Felines of Huntsville at info (at) ffhsv.org to inquire.
Daisy (DOB 1/31/2020) is a black and white polydactyl (extra toes on all 4 paws!) tuxie who was living as part of a colony in Huntsville for at least two years before her feeders brought her to Forgotten Felines of Huntsville. She was scheduled for her spay surgery, but it was determined that she was pregnant, so she went into foster. She had four kittens on March 18th, and has since been a wonderful mother to them. She’s ready to find her own home now, where she can be the baby.
Daisy is a super sweet, friendly girl who will always greet you at the door. She loves to be petted, and really loves to snooze while pressed up against you. (She has not proven to be a lap cat yet, but once her mothering duties are over, she very well might turn out to be one.) Now that her kittens are older, she has finally started to show her playful side. She is VERY fond of catnip toys, likes to bunny-kick stuffed toys, and really likes lightweight toys (like ping pong balls and toy mice) that she can bat around. When she’s not playing, she likes to curl up in a patch of sunlight near a window, and watch the birds flit around. She has been spayed, microchipped, and is up to date on her vaccinations.
We are located in Huntsville, Alabama. Out of area adoptions are allowed, but adopters MUST come here to complete the adoption.
Email Forgotten Felines of Huntsville at info (at) ffhsv.org to inquire.

Wren and Starling have complaints, and Plover is so, so, SO milk-drunk.
Good night innernets. (Plover)
