PW date of birth: 7/25/14
Trader Joe, Ralph, Von & Winn Dixie date of birth: 8/6/14
PW, Ralph, Trader Joe, Von, and Winn Dixie came to us on September 19, 2014. PW was a singleton who’d been at the shelter for a few weeks, and desperately needed to be around other kittens his own age. Ralph, Trader Joe, Von and Winn Dixie were a litter born at a vet’s office, and were about a week younger than PW. PW came to us prenamed – so named because he was found at a Piggly Wiggly – and so we went with grocery store names as our naming theme.
Ralph and Trader Joe are Lilac Lynx Points (or a mix), Von and Winn Dixie look like they’re going to be long-hair brown tabbies (possibly some Maine Coon in them), and PW is an orange tabby who looks like he’s going to keep his floofy long fur. They’re sweet, friendly, extremely playful kittens, and after some initial hissiness between PW and the other four, they get along great and play together like crazy.
Catelyn joined the litter on October 16, 2014. She was trapped, spayed, and ear-tipped as part of a group Trap-Neuter-Return, but when it was realized that she was far too young and friendly to be fending for herself, she was turned over to Challenger’s House and came here. After some initial hissiness on the part of all the kittens, Catelyn was very happy to have other kittens to play with. She and PW especially love to chase each other back and forth and play-fight (which involves some loud and dramatic squealing on both their parts.) She’s a super-friendly girl who loves people, loves to be held like a baby, and loves to curl up and nap with the nearest human.
Trader Joe has been renamed Sherman, and is now living in Wisconsin! (You can follow the adventures of Sherman and his siblings on Instagram.)
Winn Dixie and Von were adopted together and are now living in Indiana!
Catelyn was adopted the same night that she went to Petsmart!
Ralph was adopted the same night that he went to Petsmart!
PW had to cool his heels in a cage at Petsmart for an entire two days, but has also been adopted!
(This may be the fastest one of our litters was adopted – it helped that three of them were adopted before they were even spayed and neutered!)
Edited to add: Catelyn was returned in October 2015. She was adopted out in mid-November 2015 (to someone named Katelyn!) and is very much loved. Her name is now Remington.
You can read about the Grocers beginning here (there are links at the top and bottom of each entry; click on the one on the right to take you to the next one). You can see the pictures taken of them during their stay with us here at Flickr.
I want to know more about PW =) also how do you get your rescue if you live on the other side of the USA? THANKS!!
PW is a wonderful, sweet, snuggly boy – all you have to do is glance at him, and he purrs like crazy. He’s a confident boy, not shy at all, and is interested in other cats but most of all he’s a people lover.
However, Challenger’s House does require adopters to come here – North Alabama – to adopt Challenger’s House cats and kittens. 🙂
