At the beginning of March 2011, I spotted a cat in our yard who looked very much like Reacher from The Bookworms. I tried to make friends with him, but he was too scared of Fred and I, and any time we approached him, he ran off. Almost a week later, he was still hanging around eating out of the food bowl on the side porch and trying to catch birds. I was worried that he might be a pregnant female, and if so, that “she” would go off and have “her” babies somewhere, and that would be a whole litter of feral kittens we didn’t need to add to the area.
Fred trapped Rufus and brought him inside. It took a day and a half, but we found that Rufus was, in fact, a boycat. Skittish and scared at first, he’s slowly coming around and in fact will readily climb into my lap to be petted. As of March 21st he still has a way to go, but we’ll get him there.
You can read about Rufus beginning with this entry (there are links at the top of each entry; click on the one on the right to take you to the next one).

Rufus went to Petsmart on May 10, and was adopted shortly thereafter!
