From Elayne:
The lady I work with finally got me some pictures of a couple of her stray kitten “colony.” I thought I’d send them to you in case you think they might be worth posting.
The first three pictures are one of the kittens she bottle-fed; she currently has, I believe, fourteen kittens, from various litters so in various stages from tiny babies to almost-grown kittens. They’re all semi-stray but well accustomed to humans.
She’s working on getting the strays around her house neutered/spayed, but they’re popping out kittens faster than she can keep up with. Recently she’s overheard one of her neighbors telling their (large, mean) dog to “get the kitty!” and so she’s even more anxious to find homes for them now, before that kind of teasing has tragic consequences.
I just learned yesterday that one of our shelters may be accepting cats again so I’ll be suggesting she check with them to confirm and maybe go that way, but in the meantime I figured I’d see if you think it’s worth a shot to see if you have any Desert Southwest readers. (And I’d be happy to do a couple hours’ worth of driving if someone’s near but not in El Paso.) I’ll keep asking her for more photos and hopefully she’ll get me some good snaps of a variety of kittens; just thought I’d run these by you for now.
If anyone in or near El Paso is interested and/or could help out, please email me (mizrobyn (at) gmail (dot) com – or leave a comment) and I’ll put you in touch with Elayne!
I shared this post on Facebook. I have cousins who seem to have many connections in TX. I hope it helps.
Thanks, Debbie – and thanks again, Robyn, for posting it. I’ll keep y’all updated as I learn anything. (c:
