I don’t know which I love more, here – Buttercup’s desperate, wild-eyed climb to the top of the scratching post, Aslan’s windmill arms as he tries to stop her, or Jareth ignoring Buttercup and poking Aslan just ’cause he’s there.
Aslan is DETERMINED to stop Buttercup.
And trying to convince her to come down and let HIM have the top of the scratching post, while Jareth keeps messing with his tail.
Buttercup the pretty little poser.
Jareth’s pretty sure there’s room for him up there, too.
“If there’s room for HIM, there must be room for ME!” says Aslan.
And Buttercup vacates the scratching post, upside-down.
Telling his woes to the stuffed kitty. “And then I was going to go hang out with Buttercup on top of the scratching post, and she was all “SEEya!” and she was GONE and I think she doesn’t like me. ::pout::”
Since I was weighing the mama kitties yesterday (see the next section for info on that), I weighed the Royals as well, since they’re now 7 weeks old and I’ve gone to weighing them once a week. Charming is a hefty 2 pounds, 4 ounces, Aslan and Jareth are just under 2 pounds, and Leia and Buttercup are at 1 pound, 12 ounces. Those babies are growing up!

I don’t know why, but Khaleesi tends to half sit up when the babies are nursing. I mean, I’ve also seen her laying on her side, but she seems to prefer this position. She’s such a goof.
Scorch, at the milk bar (he’s always at the milk bar!)
Okay, Scorch looks humongous here.
As long as you’re comfy, Ember.
To answer a couple of the questions in yesterday’s comments – Khaleesi weighed in at 7 pounds, 13 ounces yesterday. I also weighed Kate, who is at 7 pounds, 6 1/2 ounces. But Kate is skin and bones and Khaleesi hasn’t had the life sucked out of her just yet (I imagine by the time the dragons are 7 weeks old, she’ll be skin and bones, too.)
Regarding Khaleesi’s reaction when we handle the babies: the first day, she was really worried and not pleased about it, but after that, she’s been perfectly fine. I mean, we don’t handle the babies that much, just when we need to weigh them, and very briefly to get those pictures in yesterday’s post, but most of the time we look and don’t touch.

Joe Bob’s smug little face just cracks me UP.

I think we now know the reason why Khaleesi looked like she was carrying seven kittens. His name is Scorch. And just as I was getting ready to squee over the itty bitty orange spot between Ember’s shoulder blades? I discovered a matching white one on her brother Puff… double squee!!
Indeed — now we know why one of Khaleesi’s sides was so distended. Hey, Kelly, can I borrow your magnifying glass? I need to do a spot of spot examining. Greetings to all at Crooked Acres and all their fans on this most excellent Joe Bob Tuesday.
The was a dragon named Spot on the Munsters show, under the stairway. That may be a good nickname for one.
Joe Bob is one seriously beautiful cat. (Don’t tell Corbie–he still wears the beauty queen crown.) The baleful glares. I get those a lot. Two of the kittens we have right now are all, Whatcha doin’ can I watch/do it with you/impede your progress/get a quick snuggle? And the other two eye me skeptically, as if they haven’t known me practically their entire lives. I reach out to pet them, and (if they don’t scoot out of the way) they sniff me very carefully as if they’re gonna need a background check and references please before this goes any further. I’m wondering if I need to spend some one-on-one time with each of them away from the rest of the litter . . . will this help them bond with humans more easily?
It wouldn’t hurt to spend some extra one-on-one time with the skeptics, but I think it’s just the age. Some kittens take longer to come around than others, and then one day they’re all “I LOVE YOUUUUU!” I thought Maggie’s Ciara was going to be completely standoffish for her entire life, but she ended up being the biggest lovebug of them all.
Ember, put your paws in the air and wave ’em like you just don’t care.
Paws up, y’all!
The little baby dragon’s tail (Ruth’s?) and the mama dragon’s tail wrapped around Scorch in the first picture of the babies – Squeeeee!
May I say Buttercup has won my heart?
Khaleesi is tiny! Wee little dragon mamma. One of my current fosters weighs about that much and she is the tiniest little thing.
Next pregnant cat, do you think you could weight them before they kitten? I’d be curious to see the math of momma with kittens on the inside versus momma with kittens on the outside. I know that for humans, there’s generally about an equal weight of baby + placenta and fluids (I once heard a woman who had triplets report that she lost something like twenty five pounds in one day, the most effective diet she’d ever been on), I’d be curious to hear how it works out with cats.
Of course, if momcat is not amenable to being weighed, it’s perfectly understandable, and my apologies for the affrontery of the mere suggestion.
I wish I’d thought to weigh Khaleesi (and for that matter, Kate) while they were still pregnant. If I forget next time I have a mama cat, feel free to remind me, it’ll be interesting to see!
Sounds like Khaleesi just had to realize that you weren’t there to eat her babies, that you’re actually there to help, and once she realized that it was all good.
I can’t promise that I won’t eat one of them in the future, though. I think they probably taste like cotton candy. 🙂
No, they are dragon babies. They taste like hell fire and brimstone with a side of fleeing villagers!
Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for thou art crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
Like I need one more reason to fall in love with Buttercup. Those determined ears in the first pic just kill me.
our momma cat sits up to nurse too….seems awkward, but whatever works for her I guess…
Is it possible to fall in love even more with the Royals and the Dragons ?!?!?!?!?! My heart melts when I look at there pictures. Can’t wait to see the first video of the Dragons.
Robyn do you have any videos of the Royals “talking”?
Joe Bob looks like he was having a great dream !!!!!
I actually don’t have any videos of them “talking” – they’re a fairly quiet bunch. I’ll see what I can do, though. Maybe if I tease them by holding their snack juuuust out of reach… 😀
Dude, hold my snack just out of reach and I am going to talk, but you are not going to like the words I’m saying. lolz
The PINK! Pink toes and pink legs in the air (like she just don’t care) and the sweet pink Joe Bob nose. I can’t stand it! The only thing just as good are the Royals being little foofy wild things in the first pictures. How do you even get anything done during the day? I would sit and watch both sets of kittehs, 24/7 until their Mamas decided I was a crazy stalker!
