The Ducklings spent most of the day at the vet yesterday (I dropped them off in the morning; they worked them in between appointments) and the verdict: coccidia. They had been treated for coccidia (as well as giardia) when I first got them, but apparently they need stronger meds. They’re on two different meds, one for 3 days, one for longer (7 or 10, I think? The instructions just say to give until gone), and Louie got meds and ointment for his sore behind. Hopefully it’ll just take a few days for the meds to kick in. Louie got one dose of pain meds when I got home, and he definitely seemed more comfortable in the back end area when I applied the ointment, so that’s very good.
I am anxious to get them into the foster room (because they definitely need more room to roam), but with coccidia in the picture I need to clean a lot, and it’s easier to clean the bathroom than the foster room, so they’ll stay in the bathroom for a bit longer.
Side note: coccidia is a microscopic parasite, and is something that runs rampant here in the South – it’s more unusual to have fosters who don’t have it or giardia, or both. They pick it up from the soil or from their mama – healthy adult cats can get past coccidia without meds (I hear), but little kittens or sick cats don’t have the immune system to fight it off. The Ducklings had a round of meds for both coccidia and giardia when I first got them, but sometimes a second round (and stronger meds, which is the case here) is called for. Coccidia CAN kill small kittens, but I am not worried about that with these guys – they are healthy, active, eating and playing, and just need a little help to get past this.
Dewey hissed at me when I picked them up at the vet, which is VERY RUDE, young man. (He’s not sorry.)
Louie also hissed. (Also not sorry.)
He looks like he’s not enjoying this, but believe me: there was purring.
Huey was the hissiest of the three, but also the first one to climb into my lap when we got home, so. Maybe da baybee? We shall see. I have not yet posed the question.

Okay, okay, I know why you’re really here.
Meet the newest foster…
Her name is Crumpet.
Yes, she is pregnant. She was trapped in Huntsville about two weeks ago. That was when we were in the midst of our bad weather, so another foster hung onto her for several days, and then when I took the Magnolias to Michelle’s last Wednesday for their spays and neuter, I picked her up.
She is a calitabby, she is on the young side (about two years old), and she is very sweet.
I need to get a good belly picture, but she is definitely pregnant. I think she’s got a while to go – she doesn’t quite look miserable enough yet. I don’t know that we’ll ever get an alien belly video, because she does NOT stop moving. As soon as I walk into the room, she heads for me, and then she rubs back and forth, purrs like crazy, and just wants to be petted. When I’m not in the room, she likes to sleep on top of the crate or sit on the cat tree and look out the window.
She is currently located in my office. I dithered back and forth QUITE A BIT this past almost-week about where to put who. I decided I’d put Crumpet in the foster room, and the Ducklings in my office. But really, a mother and newborn kittens don’t need all that much space for the first few weeks – life is centered around the crate – so I decided I’d put the Ducklings in the foster room (which is still the eventual plan) and keep her in my office. Once her kittens are older and need more room, the Ducklings will be close to ready to go home, and she and her kittens can go into the foster room.
That’s the plan now. Actually, at one point I thought maybe she and the Ducklings could share the foster room, but with the coccidia in the mix I wouldn’t want to expose her to that.
So anyway, there you go. It’s never boring around here, am I right?
Oh, right: the naming theme! As mentioned her name is Crumpet. Her kittens will be named after types of bread – Challah, Baguette, Ciabatta, Croissant, Pita, Johnnycake, Zwieback, Crouton, Bialy are just a few of my favorites. (I do have a much longer list, but feel free to make suggestions.) We tried this theme last year with Brioche, who turned out not to be pregnant, so we’re giving it another try.
I have no idea what I’m going to call the litter as a whole – the Buns? The Carbs? The Breadlings? I don’t know, if you have suggestions, feel free to spill ’em – but her name is DEFINITELY Crumpet (don’t suggest a different name for her, she is already named!) and the naming theme is DEFINITELY breads.

Alice Mo the calico says “THAT PREGNANT CAT LOOKS NOTHING LIKE ME” (yo)

Posted on social media (Facebook/Twitter/Instagram/Tumblr) yesterday.
The Ducklings are off to the vet today; Dewey’s back end is a mess, and the other two are having intermittent diarrhea that isn’t clearing up (hope you weren’t eating breakfast. At least there’s not a picture of it!) Hopefully the vet will be able to figure out what’s going on and we can get these guys cleared up. (On the up side, they are active and playing and aren’t acting as though they feel poorly, but I am tired of bathing kitten behinds, and I am certain they’re tired of it too!)

Clairee, Drum and Shelby were adopted yesterday (yes, all three together!) and went home to South Carolina. Here is the video of their pictures from the time we said hello (Shelby came to us on October 25, 2023; Clairee and Drum came to us on November 7th, 2023) to the day they left (January 28, 2024.)
(I am beyond thrilled that the three of them were adopted together!)
The Ducklings are home after their day at the vet. They have coccidia (“raging coccidia”, I am told) and are on a round of meds for that. Also, I got meds for Louie’s pain, and his sore behind, so I have hope that by this weekend the diarrhea will have cleared up and I can move them into the foster room.
(They are staying in the bathroom for now because it’s easier to clean than the entire foster room – and with coccidia, you want to clean a LOT.)

The Bakelings? Any news on the Ducklings’ mother?
No news on the Ducklings’ mother.
Ok perhaps I dreamt this ir have missed a post but what about Wisteria? Am I going mad xx
We fostered Wisteria, very briefly, two years ago. I accidentally linked to the 2022 post about her one day last week instead of the current one, and you’re not the only one who is confused. 🙂
Zweiback the kitten…..BWAHAHAH
Maybe the Crumbs?
The Baker’s Helpers, The Bakery Crew, The Bread Crumbs
Love the Bread Crumbs idea!!
Crumpet has a whole batch of Buns in the oven – surely that has to be the name of the litter!
Yes! How can Robyn pass up the opportunity to talk about Buns in the oven??
How about Bagel, Rye Bread and Pumpernickel are a few more names to consider!!
“Baker’s Dozen”? (Although I am *not* wishing 13 kittens on either you or Crumpet!)
For names, how about “Sourdough” (for a grumpy) or “Biscuit” (although that might get confusing)?
Not for this time around, but have you ever done snacks as a naming theme? You could do salty snacks (chip, Pretzel, tortilla, peanut, etc.) or sweet snacks (twinkle, pudding, licorice, brownie, etc.).
We had a Pretzel a few years back – but I’m going to add these names to my list of potential future names!
THE BAKERY BUNCH ! Does Donut stretch to bread ? It’s a cute name. Love Bagel, Croissant, Brioche, Baguette, Muffin. I like Pumpernickel but is that too long.
Pita is perfect for the naughtiest/cheekiest one ‘Pain-in-the-ass’ haha.
We had a cat named PITA once. It was exactly that because of the nickname.
The Bakers, The Crumbs, The Yummys (Crumpet Yummy, Pita Yummy, Ciabatta Yummy……..), The Risers (breads rise, right?)
That’s all I can come up with right now, I might be back later with more.
Hi Crumpet!!!! Welcome to the good life 🙂 You just have to get through this batch of buns and you’ll retire your oven and live a life of leisure 🙂
I love The Crumbs!
Love the theme! Since Bialy is on there, let’s not forget Bagel. And I love Challah, both name & eating it. Not making it. Please though, when considering individual names, be mindful of the pronunciation of Challah. It’s rare a gentile says it correctly. And I’m doubting you’re interested in a Yiddish class lol! It’s not “Halla” as most think. Or “Cha-lah as others try for. I honestly don’t know how one types the sound of” hacking up a lougie while working a CH into it but that is correct. Nice to see some Jewish representation for sure.
The Toasters
Hi Crumpet!
I wanted to suggest the Brekkies but maybe that’s another theme?
(Breakfasts, brekkies)
Buns is my favourite of all the already good suggestions.
And yeah curious about some of the pronunciations.
Soda is another name suggestion, I’m Irish so has to be said.
Nutty could be another and even banana but she’d probably need to the bakers dozen to require using. Xx
There’s a kitten named Sausage Patty at Petsmart right now! 🙂
We love soda bread, and when I have buttermilk that needs to be used up before it goes bad, I make a loaf of it. SO GOOD.
You’ve clearly got good taste! Xx
And scones, fruit or plain, I worked in Italy for a few years and I missed scones so much! Now I miss Italian food but there you go! That’s life isn’t it?
Good luck Crumpet and good health cutie Ducklings. Xx ☘️
That picture of you holding Louie — I think that’s Dewey in the background, looking quizzical. So cute!
Crumpet is a cutie! I like The Buns for the family name. But The Crumbs is cute, too.
Love “The Buns.”
Focaccia, grissini, scone … and it would make me very happy to have a little Schnecken (German sticky bun).
I like the breadlings or the crumbs. Bagel would be a cute name for one of the kittens. Also muffin.
My first though for a group name was (if they were all boys) the Dough Boys. If not then I like the Bread Crumbs. Donut is a fun name if you stretch things, or maybe save it for a sweet treat theme as someone above suggested.
Fun new little baybees. YAY!
I forgot to say also that with the use of Donut, it makes me think a group name could be The Munchkins (unless it’s trademarked or something).
How about The Bakery? Used to be bakeries only carried bread & maybe donuts, not all the fancy stuff they do now. And Crumpet is baking kittens.
Oh PLEASE can we have a Pikelet?
Crumpet takes the cake for beauty !!! What a darling !
The Petit Furs!
I believe that one Crumpet’s kittens should be named Bap. Baps are Scottish bread rolls, and “bap” is what kittens do to each other when they get all slappy with their little paws.
How about The Wheaties for the future kittens? Most (but not all) breads items are made from wheat. Personally, I’m not too keen on The Crumbs as that word means something kind of negative to me and little darling kittens are definitely not negative.
The Ducklings would make someone a lovely little threesome to adopt too.
I’m so with you!!!
The Buns or the Crumbs as litter names are both cute, but I’ll toss out “The Pastries” as a further possibility. (Mama Crumpet sure is a pretty girl, too, and many good vibes going out to the Ducklings that the new meds help them get over the digestive ick, poor babies.)
I love all these name ideas! I laugh-snorted at the Carbs. Too funny. The only kitten name I could think of to add is Demi, for a demi-baguette? I’m not very imaginative like the other posters.
When I saw Crumpet on Insta last night I said to myself, she looks preggers!
The Flours or The Flour Children 🙂
I love The Buns for a name, too cute! I’d pick that for sure!!
The Crumpettes (if all girls) or The Starters (snort). If she were Canasta and birthed near Easter, they could be Hot Cross Buns.
How about the “Kittibuns” or “Loaves”?
I think “Anadama” or “Dutch Crunch” might make good names as well.
