The Weeds, snuggled up. Dandelion couldn’t look away from that light.
Dandelion, Thistle, and Magoo cram themselves on one little cat tree platform.
The Weeds girls, stretching it out.
Every time I start the dryer, I’m so worried that a kitten crawled in while I wasn’t paying attention that I stop and double-check the laundry at least twice. Then sometimes I go count kittens, just to be sure.
Magoo and his toy, and Dandelion stopping for a sniff as she passes by.
We got a new kitchen sink on Sunday (nothing exciting, just replacing the piece o’ junk old sink that I’ve been hating for the past five years). Fred set the sink on the table while he was removing the old sink, and Petey decided it was time to do some quality assurance.
“It’s infested with a Joe Pickle. This sink does NOT pass inspection. Joe Pickles are impossible to get rid of.”
Magoo on the left, Thistle on the right, Dandelion in the back. I’m not sure if it’s a matter of Magoo liking the Weeds girls, or the Weeds girls liking Magoo, but there seems to be an awful lot of inter-litter snuggling going on.
Magoo, Polly (right) and Percy, stretching out in what is apparently the best cat bed in the entire house.
Suggie, on the dining room table. I love it when kitties curl up like this.

All I could think of when I saw Pickles in the sink was, “hope they don’t decide to christen the new litter box!” Katherine woulda been all over that…and not in a good way. π Congrats on the new sink!
I thought the exact same thing, and when the next picture was a box full of paper and kittens I thought Robyn must be starting an “accident” string. You’ve got to admit that Joe Pickles’ posture makes one think he might be up to something. π
There was no christening of the sink – they only looked so put out because Fred had just dropped Joe into the sink, and neither of them was crazy about the close quarters. π I agree that Joe, particularly, looked like he was getting into position!
I love how cats think that anything new that comes into the house is automatically theirs. I recently bought some Sterlite containers to update my storage, only I couldn’t use them for a few weeks because Holly believed I had bought them for her to sleep in. Had to wait until she lost interest before using them for their intended purpose.
Magoo and Thistle look like siblings.
As for the dryer, I do the exact same thing. The thought and fear of what would happen [*shudder*].
They really do! Not all black cats look alike, but these two really resemble each other!
(I notice he’s not getting called “Tony” much these days.)
He’s got about 10,000 nicknames – but Fred does call him Tony more than anything else. π There’ll be closeup pictures of Magoo and Thistle in tomorrow’s post. He’s got a square little face, and she has a delicate, narrow face.
As always, beautiful, beautiful pictures!

Something isn’t right….
how are they getting in the dryer? do you leave the door open?
When I take clothes out of the dryer, the kittens are RIGHT THERE, and usually climbing in as I take clothes out. I usually have another load to move from the washer to the dryer, so I have to pull kittens out, toss the laundry in, check for kittens, start the dryer, stop the dryer to check again, etc.
Simba and Norman use a box in the laundry room, but being old timers I have no worry about them. When the Washingtons had run of the house though, it was my nightmare moment when I realized they were clearing the baby gate that I put up in the doorway and that I had to start checking the dryer for kittens. ((The baby gate being for keeping the dog out of the box and not kittens out of the laundry))
I do the same thing with the dryer. I think they are attracted to the warmth of the dryer! I double check and then count cats as well.
Not to freak you out, but we lost a kitten that way when I was growing up. Saddest thing ever. We didn’t know he had snuck into the garage.
I check the dishwasher about four times everytime I run it
Yeah, all too common. Horrible death…. Poor baby!
My cats are grown, but I still check and double check. Yep, I have done a head count.
The day I got a front-loading washer, I started checking for cats before starting it… and I just have two oldsters! I use the washer as my auxiliary hamper and I’m always concerned one of the furballs will have thought, “Hey look! A nice new padded cave and it smells just like the woman I love!!”
Fortunately, both are so set in their ways, it’s easy to check (Fuzz in the studio [positioned to create the most inconvenience when I start working] and Sweetpea on the bed [positioned smack dab in the middle, of course])!
I have to check the fridge! My dryer is down in the basement so I’m good there, but the other day my son closed the fridge after pulling something out. When he went to put it back the cat ran out of the fridge! I wish I had gotten a picture of her expression as I sure it would’ve been something close to “what the heck-its cold in there”.
I have a fridge with french doors and every time I open it Tuxie jumps right in! But luckily he’s too big not to notice. I think he knows the open cans of cat food live there!
I’m more concerned that I’ll close the refrigerator door on their little heads – I never ever close the door without checking first (and sweeping them out of the way with one foot. I have skillz!) Even when there are no kittens out in the house, it’s such an ingrained habit that I look.
I had a kitty that would curl up like Suggie is but curled up really tight to where she would squeak when she breathed. I would have to get her to unwind just a bit so she would stop.
Look at those hate rays from Alice on the first sink picture…
She has NO USE for those kittens all up in her space! π
Sorry. I’ve got to say it… Your dining table is covered with everything AND the kitchen sink! π
Kara went to Petco? I’m glad Sheriff Mama found her way back home to Crooked Acres. There might have been a suggestion at one point that if Porter needed a break from Petco that he would never go back. That’s why I haven’t gone back to visit him yet, either.
LOL
I read the entries for that one and it is never explained how Kara came to be Robyn and Fred’s 10th cat… even though Robyn promises to tell the story.
C’mon, Robyn, you owe us! π
Actually, I’m enjoying reading about Lem, Delmar, Marion and Claudette, who I didn’t even know existed until today. You have a great blog!
I can’t believe I missed posting that! It’s there now, but if I may summarize: Fred missed her and harassed me until I went and brought her home. π
That Magoo must have a magnetic personality – everyone wants to sleep with him. π
I can’t help but pick him up and kiss him every time I see him. If I could have fit in that box, I would have crammed myself in there with him, too! π
The dryer fascination makes me paranoid every time I use the thing. I know now one is in there but I have to do a little OCD check a couple of times just to be sure. I also will not run the washer without a double check. Annnd I will not run the washer or dishwasher if I am not at home. Meaning I won’t start them and leave the house. Too paranoid about a water disaser.
I really didn’t like to start the washer, the dryer or the dishwasher when I’m leaving the house, and then someone told me their mother’s house burned down because of a dishwasher problems while she was away. So I now never EVER start an appliance and leave the house.
I am so glad to hear other people who won’t run the washer/dryer/dishwasher while they’re gone! I’ve pretty much stopped mentioning this to people, because I’ve been told (by my mother even!) that I’m crazy, and everything will be fine if the dishwasher is running while I’m gone. But I just can’t do it!
Also – maybe being around the Weeds makes Magoo feel like a ‘big boy,’ since he’s tiny compared to his own family.
I never really thought about it, but I don’t run the dishwasher or dryer when I’m not home, either!
There was a big problem with dishwashers causing house fires maybe last year? They were getting stuck in a particular cycle. My friend’s son’s scoutmasters house burned down completely from a dishwasher fire. They only took a quick ride to Home Depot and by the time they returned the house was too far gone. That scared me in to not running it while gone. When mine died this year it let out the nastiest burning smell. I slept on the couch and didn’t sleep well. I was very afraid of a fire starting from something smoldering inside. I never run the dryer when out either. Just too dangerous and I don’t think any of us is being silly or neurotic, just cautious in a healthy way π
I love when the Cellar Cats let the Ceiling Cat in on their meeting! π
They had very important business to discuss! π
Might you perchance mean affairs of state?
Many, many years ago, when I was married, I was doing laundry. I always get the shirts out while they are still damp so ironing is easier. I took out a shirt, and slammed the dryer door shut and turned it on. I heard the worst noise, so stopped it and opened the door, and our calico shot out. She had never done that before, and she never did that again. She was non the worse for wear, and I did check the dryer after that. My cats now are not interested in the dryer at all.
I think Dandelion likes hanging out with the two black kittens because she knows how well they contrast and therefore show off her wonderful white furs!
Now that those kittens know how fun the kitchen sink is, I wonder how often you’ll find them in it now that it’s installed!
Sugarbutt, the orange ball! Love it!
They can’t get up to the sink! Well, of course now that I said that, I’ll walk into the kitchen tomorrow morning and find every kitten in the house crammed into the kitchen sink, right? (Wouldn’t that be awesome??)
My long-since-passed cat Sushi got into the dryer one day. Not having noticed anything, I turned it on, then paused to wonder what the thumpa-thumpa-thumpa noise was. Were there tennis shoes in there? A wallet? I opened the door, and when it slowed spinning enough for me to look in and see, there was Sushi, sitting there looking a wee bit dazed, but in a good way. I tried to get her out; she wouldn’t come out. I reached in and pulled her out; she jumped right back in. Three or four times. By the second time of me tugging her roomy buttocks out of there, she was scratching at the door, trying to close it behind her. I think she thought it was a carnival ride. We were eventually able to train her to stay away by liberal use of a squirtgun, but it took months.
She’s the same cat who used to flop out in the middle of my mom’s kitchen floor until someone – usually my brother – would come along, hook a finger into her collar, and spin her in circles in the middle of the floor. When she wanted to be spun, she’d go plop in the middle of the floor, and if no one came along after a few minutes, she’d start calling for us. It was not unusual to hear my mother yelling, “For the love of GOD will SOMEONE please go SPIN THAT CAT?” I always wondered what the neighbors thought of that. (She loved spinning on office-type chairs, too. But she hated harmonicas. My mother would get out her harmonica and before she’d even get it up to her mouth, here’d come Sushi from whatever far-off room in the house she’d been in, biting my mom’s feet and, if that didn’t work, hands to make her put it away. I don’t know if she could hear the snap of the case, smell it, or what, but she was SERIOUSLY anti-harmonica.)
That cat… man. She was probably brain damaged but boy, what a personality she had.
Elayne, that has to be among the Top 10 Best Cat Tales ever — what a character!
And I thought one of our former cats Scarlet O’Hara the tuxedo loving to hitch a ride on the front of the broom was funny! Spin That cat! Love It!
A question and a comment
First of all, I have never had trouble with cats getting in my dishwasher or dryer. It started with my first cat, a calico, who thought the dishwasher door would be a neat place to sit. To discourage this, I filled a glass with water and poured it on her. Not only did she never go in the dishwasher ever again, she told all subsequent cats to never try that as well. Same thing with my house plants; never had a cat bother them ever after the one time said cali chomped my orchid plant.
And a ? If Dandelion is white and has blue eyes, is she deaf? I thought that combination produced hearing issues in cats. Or have you addressed this before?
In the picture of Magoo with his toy, you think Dandy was checking if the black kitteh was Tony or Thistle?
Maybe – but more like she was checking to see if she wanted the toy he had. π
