Sights from around Crooked Acres.
That’s right, y’all. Delores is back! She disappeared for a couple of weeks, and then reappeared looking like she’d been belly-up to the fly bar (I swear she’s twice as big as she was), and then it rained and she was all “Forget this!” and left again. I’ve checked every day, but she hasn’t come back yet. Come back, Delores! (Delores is an Orb Weaver.)
Some butterfly-moth type creature who stopped on the outside of the window, looked me over, and found me wanting.
First red leaf of the late Summer/ Fall!
Crested Polish hen. I’m calling her Cruella De Vil these days.
The pigs sure do like their daily cookies. Check out the drool on pink pig’s face.
I’m starting to think there’s just the one Damselfly out by the pond and s/he’s always there.
These pigs are getting huuuuuuge.
Gracie’s worried that I’m planning to take her rawhide bone away (I never have, but it doesn’t stop her from worrying!)
The Rock Star retires early. Usually when we go out to feed the catfish around 6, she’s all tucked up in the coop waiting for nighttime to come. Then she’s gotta jump down off her roost to come get the scratch I toss out for the chickens.
Part of the flock, partaking in scratch.
When we find an egg with a crack in it, we toss it to the pigs or the chickens (yes, chickens will eat eggs). They fight over the shell, and invariably one of them grabs a big ol’ piece of shell and runs off with it, like this one did.
She ran for the coop, intending to run under it and savor her piece of egg shell. But unbeknownst to her, one of her sisters was hopping down out of the coop…
Even after her sister landed on her, she never dropped that egg shell, and after a dirty look and a shake of her feathers, off she went under the coop.
Meredith Grey (in the front), disapproves of such shenanigans, as do her judgey cohorts.
Seeing her sisters get into a tussle, Purslane ran for the safety of her Croc bed.
Dandelion was all “You get back here and let me bite your butt!”
And Thistle was all “No way!”, and just kept running.
Purslane wandered over to the little plastic basket and sat in it, just because she could. It was a bit of a tight fit, though.
“I guess I’ve grown up too much for my awesome purple basket!”
“Stop sniffing my head, or I’ll bite you!”
Dandelion leaps for higher ground.
She tried biting Purslane, but Purslane wasn’t having it.
Today’s nickname: Mister Magoo.
Petey Pickle has pretty peepers.
“Mr. String, you come here and let me bite you!”
I love that they still use those stairs to get on and off the bed, even though they could easily jump onto the bed from the floor.
Percy, on the top platform of the cat tree.
Oh, how Mister Magoo loves his red string.
Polly loves the boa on her Winnie’s Wish kicker.
Joe Bob on the stump in the back yard. They love hanging out on that thing.

Such pretty kitties. I could done without the bugs but love this post!
Percy on top of the cat tree melted me into a little puddle. So sweet!
Ditto!
George and Gracie always make me want a dog!!! Joe Bob has the best spot in the yard…thanks for such a wonderful start to my day ~ every day…
Mr Magoo looks like he’d feel just like a fleece jacket, he’s so fuzzy π
Petey Pickle looks like he has a little of the looneyface going on.
Delores’ sister Dottie lives at our house. She went missing this weekend after the grass cutting crew came by and blew too many grass clippings in her direction. then we had 3 inches of rain. I hope Dottie is just keeping a low profile and will show up again this weekend. She is very pretty and anyone who clears out flies and mosquitos is ok by me.
I would squeal like a little girl and run away if I ever ran into Delores, I’m sorry to say. The other night, there was a water bug in my kitchen and I had to make my neighbor and his friend come over and kill it π My reaction when I saw it was so startling, my cat puffed out his tail!
LOL!
I’m happy that Delores prefers to hang out in the front flower bed, where I have to make a special trip to see her. If she showed up in my bed or something, I doubt I’d be quite so enamored!
That Tony has some serious tongue….
I think my favorite day of the week is Thursday! Love the pigs and the kitties! The chickens just look way too particular to deal with though. And Delores is pretty as long as she stays “in the computer”.
Love all the sights around there! Hope Mama Kitty finds a home quickly tho.
And Delores is fine as long as I don’t encounter her by surprise between tomato plants…the involuntary noise that comes from such encounters you could hear in the next county!! I have been known to toss Japanese beetles at those webs just to watch the swift punishment and wrapping action, tho.
Of course the kittens are hilarious, but Joe Bob smiling from his log is tops!
Thanks…brightens my day.
Hi Robyn,
In the last couple years my household went from 3 cats to 1. One passed away of old age and one of cancer. Eventually I will be adopting again. In the past my cats have come from the humane society. I have heard about Hannah Pet Adoptions and wondered if you have have heard anything good/bad about them? Or is a pet insurance plan the way to go? I can’t imagine a life without animals but in this economy pet care is so expensive. I own my own house in the city but veterinary costs will determine how many cats I own. I would love you opinion about this. Thanks!
I love Delores. I have yet to see a Delores at my house (will be planting a garden for next year, though). Those are black and yellow garden spiders (argiopes) and they get to be HUGE. Their lifespan is pretty short, though. Once they’ve laid an egg sac or two, they die.
I think they’re beautiful. If anyone is interested, here’s a link about them:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argiope_%28spider%29
Ooh, thanks for the link!
I love Delores, but if I were to wake up and find her near me, I’d probably die of a heart attack. (Luckily, Delores has no desire to come inside. I THINK.)
Ahem. I can’t help but notice that Kara hasn’t made her way into the tags yet. Surely that means it’s time to post a pic? No pressure! π
I’ll see what I can do. π It’s hard to get pictures of her, because as soon as she sees me, she runs to me and then stands at my feet. I have to sneak up on her!
I surelove me some Purslane!
Purslane think you haff excellent taste.
Dandelion needs to meet the perma resies, stat. She seems to have too many pegs. She is a beautiful lil cottonball, though.
She definitely needs to meet some bigger cats who won’t put up with her shenanigans!
Looks like you have a fierce little Dandelion warrioress there… Is she ever not biting or planning on biting? silly girl!
Picklehead in the same “I love my red stringy club” that Leo is in? He can’t sleep without laying on top of his or having it on top of him…
Smilin’ Joe Bob givin’ the sultry look!
Dandelion is a bratty little girl – I think it’s about time to introduce her to the Pickles so she can see what REAL butt-kicking is about. π
I’ve had kind of a poopy day, but between the sparring Weeds, Tony’s little bat-toes, and smilin’ Joe Bob, it’s starting to get better.
Always glad to help out! π
Joe Bob — such a pretty boy! And I got some steps to help Harley get up on the bed, but she wouldn’t use it — she prefers to jump as high as she can, and pull herself up the rest of the way with her claws….
Could Joby Joe be any more photogenic and do those Weeds ever sleep?
My mom had a Shar-Pei that she named Mr. Magoo. (His official AKC name was a bit racially insensitive, so I pretend like he only had the “goes-by” name). He earned his name the hard way – his face wrinkles drooped down over his eyes when he was little. My mom’s oven is right next to the door that leads from the kitchen to the garage, and if the oven door is left open, it blocks the garage doorway. But poor Mr. Magoo clotheslined himself at least five times a week on that oven door – he’d come charging in from the garage, unable to see three inches in front of his face, and slam right into it.
One of our favorite family memories is of the time she threw a tennis ball for him and he ran headfirst into the clothesline pole, then staggered around trying to regain his balance and find the ball at the same time. We can all crack each other up without any context at all, simply by going, “Ball ball ball baBOINNNNNGGGG,” in recreation of what must have been going through his tiny little brain that afternoon.
tldr: I heartily approve of the Mr. Magoo nickname, but hope he doesn’t live up to it quite as well as my mom’s dog did. (c:
Awww…..I have a black blind one eyed cat named Mr. Magoo! Love that nickname for the little horror!
Fred objects to the nickname because Tony RH doesn’t have any eye issues, but I don’t know – something about the name fits him! (Also, I love your avatar, hee!)
I realized just now my avataar tells you how much I love the name. π
