The kittens are 5 weeks old as of yesterday! Here’s what they look like now, and their current/birth weights below.
Alejandro: 1 lb 5.5 ounces (5.1 ounces at birth)
Pablo: 1 lb 0.8 ounces (3.8 ounces)
Javier: 1 lb 4.4 ounces (4.7 ounces)
Carmelita: 1 lb 3.7 ounces (4.8 ounces)
Diego: 1 lb 5.6 ounces (4.1 ounces)
They’re starting to sniff around the canned food and kibble when Isabella eats. Alejandro has taken a few bites of food, but no one else is much interested though I’ve put canned food in each of their mouths a couple of times a day (when moms are around and kittens are gaining weight, I don’t stress too much about getting them to eat on their own. They’ll get the hang of it, and will continue to nurse as long as they possibly can; our kittens almost always nurse right up until the point they leave their moms even though I’ve told them many strangers on the innernets disapprove of such a thing). I can just about guarantee that in the next week they’ll start trying canned food on their own.
They’re all using the litter boxes like little champs, and I haven’t found a single accident. Geniuses! They’re climbing, they’re fighting, they’re smacking at toys. They’re growing up!

Mama takes a break. Isn’t she the PRETTIEST?
Alejandro climbed into the triangle, and thought “This is cool and all, but I can do something cooler.”
Watch how casually he strolls to the top of that thing!
“No, Javier, there’s no room up here for you.”
“Listen when I’m talkin’ to you!”
“Well,” said Javier. “You don’t have to be RUDE.”
The look on Carmelita’s little face (in the pink collar to the left) is cracking me UP.
“Huh,” thought Alejandro. “I wonder how I’m gonna get down from here.”
“NO ROOM FOR YOU, CARMELITA!” Alejandro yelled.
To my surprise, he actually did get down on his own – he just backed down the way he’d gone up. I figured he’d just start crying for someone to save him. It won’t be long before they’re all climbing up onto the couch and the cat trees. Why’ve they gotta grow up so fast?

“I SAID NO PICTURES, LADY!” Newt is so rude.

Newtles rude? Nah, he is a big love bug!!!
Look at those climbing monkeys!!
That Alejandro sure has opinions, doesn’t he!
what does it cost to adopt one of the kittens?
$100 for 1, $175 for 2. (You can contact Forgotten Felines of Huntsville at info@ffhsv.org to inquire.)
Poor Carmelita! The only girl with all those boys! Somehow, I think she’s up to the task!
Honestly, Robyn, I don’t understand why people get upset when kittens continue to nurse even after they begin eating kibble and canned food. They are much like human babies who continue to nurse even after starting solid food. Babies of all species nurse, not only for nutrition, but will go to Mom for comfort and reassurance while navigating their new world.
