Uh oh. Look at who’s making eyes at Rupert (who’s out there by the tree). If I’d had time, I would have photoshopped little cartoon hearts over her head. She’s thinking “Oh, he is FIIIIIIIINE!” I tried to tell her she’s barking (trilling) up the wrong tree, but she doesn’t care. The hormones want what they want.
In other words, Brandywine’s going into heat. I guess I made that spay appointment in the nick of time! Sunday night we were bemused at how SUPER-friendly she suddenly was, and then she started trilling at us, and we were like “Oh, right. FIGURES.” At least she hasn’t gotten really aggressive about it yet – she’s just really friendly and doing some occasional trilling. No presenting and no making the move on Old Man Spanky the way Kara did (Kara would vehemently deny this, but it’s truuuuue.)
I’m leaving here soon to drop her (and Kennebec, Agata, and Fianna) off at North Alabama Spay Neuter Clinic. It’s certainly going to be quiet around here today and tonight!
I tried to get some video of her trilling, but ended up just getting video of her rolling around. As a bonus, in the second part you can see Stompers stomping around in the background. Please ignore the state of that rug; I hadn’ t vacuumed yet.
So last weekend, we did something fun and exciting! We moved the antique bed that’s been living in the guest bedroom into the garage, and put a platform bed in its place. I liked the antique bed well enough – it’s the bed that was in Fred’s bedroom when he was a kid, actually, and everyone who sleeps in it talks about how comfortable it was – but it had a tall headboard, which caused some really jerky cats (one or possibly more of the permanent residents) to spray it. I was starting to get really worried that they were going to damage it, so I bought a platform frame off of Overstock.com.
First, we leaned the mattress and plywood (that goes under the box spring) against the wall so we could take the frame apart and cart it out to the garage.
Tommy thought that atop the mattress was a fine place to hang out.
We carted the antique bed frame out to the garage, and then carried the box spring out to the garage and sealed it in plastic. Then Fred took the new frame out of the box and started putting it together.
Brandywine thought she’d be helpful.
Sugarbutt took a turn atop the mattress.
The finished bed. The next day I turned it so that the long side was against the wall. It actually looks kind of cozy in there now. And the room looks bigger, so that’s a bonus.
Brandywine had a little time with the kits…
…and decided she’d much rather hang out downstairs with us, thanks.
Stompers likes to snuggle with Fianna.
“Go ‘way! Tryin’ to sleep here!”
Stompers was in the condo, trying to nap. Kennebec and Agata were making that difficult.
“I’ve got it!”
“No, I‘ve got it!”
“They’re so rude. Can’t a girl get some decent rest around here?”
Stompers grabs for Kennebec, but Kennebec is just too fast.
Elwood, plotting evilly (and blurry Corbie in front of him).

Aww! Cat love! Good, old fashioned cat lovin! Lol What is “presenting”? Backing that thang up? Ok, going to wash my dirty mind now.
Dorfy and Rufus had a love thang too.
“Backing that thang up” is a pretty good description of it. π
lol!
presenting is just that, giving the best possible view of the orifice in question when one is in heat. Touch a kitty in heat and you’ll often end up with a cat that looks a lot like a high healed shoe with the tail straight down the back… worse case of elevator butt you’ve ever seen π
HA – yeah, backing that thang up is exactly what it is! π
Oh, Brandywine is such a lovely girl! Lookin’ for love in all the wrong places, though…
How are those sores on her back doing? It’s clear they don’t bother her too much, but they look a little ouchy.
That last photo of Elwood and Corbie is hilarious. If it were in black and white I could see some film noir script coming out of it.
They’re getting better, but it’s slow going. I wish they’d heal completely already!
We call that Fort Mattress… just like a tree fort, but a bit more comfy. Every time we’ve moved (7 or 8, I’ve lost count) the cats climb up to the top Fort Mattress. I imagine they’re having all sorts of imaginary adventures up there. That, or they’re plotting our destruction. π
Anyone else think that Elwood’s contemplating what a Corbie butt tastes like?
“Anyone else think that Elwoodβs contemplating what a Corbie butt tastes like?”
Well, I am NOW! π
LOL, I have a strong suspicion that he knows! π
Brandywine is a gorgeous girl. I’m so glad she found her way to you. I know you’ve helped her heal, I’m sure her future humans will have a wonderful companion. As a side note … I got the new iPad last week, and the pictures are even more fabulous on it. I can ALMOST believe these gorgeous kitties are in the same room!
I am jealous of your new iPad. I’m saving up for one! π
Wonderful morning pics as usual. The second to last one with Stompers seems like it should say “I’ll just close the door to this place now and get some shut-eye. Well, there SHOULD be a door!”
Kennebec looks more and more like a full grown tom everytime I see him.
Shame we need to get Brandywine fixed, she makes wonderful kittens. Don’t blame her though, Rupert is foxy with that ever-shiny white coat.
The last pic of Elwood and Corbie would be perfect for this:
29 Of The Most Imminent “SOON” Attacks
And Elwood licking his chops too!
LOL!
Good luck Brandywine and big Taters with your tutoring!! (Baby Stompers must not go…must…stay…baby…forever…) π
Tops of mattresses and between mattresses are fun! When I flip my mattresses, it’s always a race for the cats to get in between the mattress and the boxspring. I’m just lucky no has gotten smushed yet before I’ve dropped some of the heavier ones!
Elwood does look like he is plotting something dastardly…he needs one of those black cartoon mustaches to twirl!
Poor Brandywine. We had a momma cat go into heat here once and since the boys were all neutered early, it was a serious case of “ummm mom, the girl is acting all friendly and funny-like….can we get a little help here??”. Felt bad for Chiclet, but watching the expressions on the boys around her was kind of funny.
We had the same situation at our house before we got Maggie fixed. She was flirting with all the boys, and they clearly did not know what to make of it.
The girls we’ve had go into heat here who were out around the permanent residents (Kara & Maggie) seemed to think that old man Spanky was the man of their dreams. But last night, Brandywine was giving Tommy the eye!
Uh oh…don’t let Stinkerbelle hear that!!
Bahahaha! That pic of Elwood just may be my new favorite pic from your blog! It SO needs a caption!
