We have kitten names! You’ll have to forgive me for reusing pictures from yesterday.
Let me introduce to you…
(See Torvill and Dean’s Bolero performance for reference.)
Katarina! (After Katarina Witt.)
Annnnd Oksana! (After Oksana Baiul, of course.)
Now that they’re named, Kristi can go ahead and have her kittens. As of yesterday morning, she moved in to Katia’s neighborhood.
You can’t really see them, but Katia’s in the red crate on the left, and Kristi’s in the Lowe’s box on the right. You can also see that there’s a big carrier on the other side of Katia, as well as the box Emmy birthed her babies in. On the other side of the room are a couple of other options, but I’m hoping that that box is where she decides to have her kittens, since I can just sit there and look back and forth between the crate and the box.
Oh here, here’s a picture I took of the other side of the room:
Please note that I removed all the shelves so that neither cat could jump up there and fall and hurt herself. I had it looking so nicely arranged, too. Oh well – that just shows me that getting doors on those built-ins is going to be a priority in a few months between fosters.
Someone asked about that purple chair in the comments yesterday. I got that chair off of Woot last year, but it’s a Memory Foam Gaming Chair (similar Amazon link for reference, but do a Google search, I’m sure you can find it cheaper elsewhere). It’s adjustable and will sit up like a chair or fold flat. I haven’t used it much yet, but I wanted something I could sit or lay on if I needed to spend another night in the foster room. It has plenty of memory foam and is pretty comfy.
“Is a nice neighborhood, but the kids in that other house are LOUD. I’m thinking about making a mean post about them on Next Door.”
“Did she say she was going to say mean things about my little angels?”
“I have half a mind not to babysit for her when she wants a night out!”
So Sunday night Kristi jumped down from her spot in front of the window, slept on the purple chair for a few hours, slept in a small box for a while longer, then moved into the box near Katia, where she’s been ever since except for the occasional trip to the litter box or the food. Her appetite has dropped off substantially (which sometimes – but not always – happens in the day or two before they give birth.) Since Katia’s kittens were born, she and Kristi have polished off 6 3-ounce cans of wet food at night (always at night, they never eat during the day), but yesterday morning there was quite a bit of food left over.
I popped in and visited many times yesterday, and each time she liked having her chin rubbed and her ears scratched, and she purred like crazy. I had hoped to see kittens during the day, but let’s be real – I don’t realistically expect her to have them in the middle of the day (I’ve never had kittens born in the middle of the day, it’s usually either early morning or overnight, though Kara had hers in the evening.) She’ll have them in the middle of the night or in the very early hours of the morning, I’m sure.
You’ll recall that I write posts the night before so that they’ll auto-post while I’m still sleeping. If she’s had her kittens overnight, I’ll edit this post to reflect that, and will also post on Instagram/Facebook, of course.

I am so happy that you chose to name two of the kittens after Torvill and Dean! Or will it be Jane and Chris? Was I the only one that suggested them?
No, several people mentioned that naming idea, and I love it because I love those skaters. 🙂
I haven’t decided whether to go with Jayne and Chris or Torvill and Dean yet, I’m thinking the latter.
Oh, those are such cute names!!! I think these Olympians will be bopping about soon enough and living up to their namesakes.
As always, my tough work day (okay, night) just melted away with another LnH post. Thank you so much for all you do and share with us!
Love the names!!! Now I am inspired to go watch Norbie’s ice skating video again.
And at some point today when I need a calming break, I will come back and watch Torvill and Dean, because that is one of, if not the most beautiful ice dancing routine ever performed!!
Thanks for posting the link to the Bolero performance, I had forgotten how absolutely beautiful that was… it brought tears to my eyes!
gonna have to check out that chair….heaven knows my butt goes numb sitting on the floor with kittens.
ugh, those baby bellies are so round and fat..
