It was a quiet and relaxing weekend, and since I took a million pictures at Petsmart on Friday, I’m going to post those pictures and call this an entry. You’re welcome!
First things first: Jax was adopted on Saturday! Since Tig and Opie were adopted on Tuesday (though Tig didn’t go home ’til Friday evening), this means that Clay’s the last Son at Petsmart. So he wouldn’t be alone, they put him in a cage with another kitten (whose brother was adopted Friday night), and reports are that they’re getting along smashingly. That doesn’t surprise me at all – Clay is a sweetheart who loves everyone.
When I clean at Petsmart, I have to figure out which cats are safe to let out to run around together. Last week when I cleaned, I found that Pepsi wasn’t much a fan of the other cats. So this week, I let her out of her cage first and let her run around and play and be petted.
Isn’t she gorgeous? Like I said, she’s not a fan of other cats. She’s a sweet girl, but very intense.
Pepsi’s been at Petsmart for a while, and she’s a little scary, but guess what? On Saturday, Pepsi got herself adopted! Some people wanted a cat with personality, and Miss Pepsi’s got personality to spare – even though they were told that Pepsi is intense and even after Pepsi had drawn blood, they STILL wanted to adopt her. Now that is an ending that makes me happy.
Once Pepsi had run around and played and gotten petted, she went back into her cage, and I let the rest of the cats out to visit with each other and run around and play.
There are two black cats there, Bear Cub 1 and Bear Cub 2. I believe this is Bear Cub 2, the female. They came from a litter which included two brown tabbies and a tuxie. The others were adopted, but these guys have been waiting and waiting.
This is Kanga. She was a bit shy and didn’t want to come out of her cage, so I petted her a lot. She stood in her bed and marched a bit, and purred, then looked out at the other cats and said “No, thank you. I’ll stay here!”
Looky there, it’s our gorgeous little boy, Jax!
This is Tanner. He was adopted Friday night!
This is Caleaha, Tanner’s sister. She’s now sharing a cage with Clay.
Jax has such a serious little face. Did I kiss him 35 times? I did indeed.
Caleaha is a little live wire. She and Clay are going to enjoy hanging out, I think – good thing he’s so laid-back!
Clay, watching the other kittens run around.
Bear Cub 1. He hung out like this almost the whole time I was there. So stressed, that one.
“Dude. My stress level is like THIS BIG!”
Tig and Jax, and in the front, Tanner.
Jax and Tanner bond over the feather teaser.
Caleaha, keeping an eye on something.
Please notice the position of Jax’s tail.
What I love about this picture: Caleaha reaching for the feather teaser, and Tig getting a good sniff of Tanner’s ear.
I think this is Bear Cub 2, the female, because she’s got a splash of white on her chest. Doesn’t she have gorgeous eyes?
Tanner, checking out the scratching post.
The Sons were more interested in running around playing than visiting with me, but I made sure to give them each lots of kisses and snuggles before I put them back in their cage. This was an amazing week for my fosters – Opie, Tig, Jax, Charlie AND Patty, all adopted in the space of less than a week. I’m very certain that Clay won’t be around much longer – if he’s not adopted Tuesday, I bet he’ll go next weekend. Fred’s a tiny bit offended that Clay hasn’t been adopted, since Clay was his favorite from that litter, but I’m certain it won’t be long.

Wow, thank you for this post! It took a load off of my heart to actually see where they go when they leave Crooked Acres. Thank you Ms. Robyn!
I was glad to share. π
Loved the way you answered queries and used posts on Saturday and today loads of good news and super pics.Thank you.
Bear Cub #2 looks exactly like my new-old kitty Norman!! The extra-round gold eyes and the wispy white patch on the chest are divine. And on a completely different tangent… my dear departed black lab went by the name Grizzly, and we called him Bear Cub all of the time. This kitty is GOLD, I tell you. GOLD! She will make some lucky family very, very happy.
I’m incredibly pleased to hear Pepsi’s story. Even personality-filled diva kitties make wonderful companions in the right family. Kudos and good luck to her new family!
I love Tanner’s standing belly shot!!
and I forgot how dramatic tuxie faces are when their tear ducts aren’t blocked and their face is constantly a mess..

Awww, Eli, what a sweetie! I hear you on the goopy eyes. Miz Poo’s got eye issues, and I’m forever cleaning the eye boogers off her face. Maybe I should try convincing her to clean her own face! Hmmm…worth a try! π
All right, that’s it!
I have just made a decision. The next time I need to add a new kitty to my family it will be a solid black one. I have always liked them anyway (we’ve had two in the past) They’re breaking my heart π
aw look at all those beautiful kitties! Pepsi is quite cute hope she loves her new home!
So exhausting to be a kitty isn’t it sugarbutt?
Squee!!! Love adoption stories. I have a friend who will only adopt black cats because of the unreasoning predjudice against them (silly beans!). Bear Cub 2’s amber eyes are, indeed, gorgeous!
The bears are gorgeous!!! I don’t really pick a kitty via color…I pick them via personality! π All kitties are beautiful!!!
True, GD! At least if people are willing to give black cats a second glance because they know they’re less likely to be adopted, it might put them on more equal footing. π
Pepsi is stunning. If she has the personality to match I can understand why people would want to take her home. Also love when people take a chance on older cats who have personalities.
Ktitens are cute but at that stage so often they don’t have personalities, they’re just kittens.
Kittens! So many kittens! I wish the shelter was close enough for me to volunteer so I could spend time with cats all the time. They just fascinate me.
Pepsi is so gorgeous! Could you explain what you mean when you say that she’s “intense”? I’d describe my Rebus as intense too, but I’m not sure if our definitions match… By the way, he also does that sniffing-every-millimetre-of-my-hands thing when I’ve been petting another cat β it’s hilarious!
Let me think about it, Danielle – I’ll answer this in Friday’s post! π
You are lucky you have that little bumper along the bottoms of the cages! In our PetSmart cat room, there is a space under there that the cats love to go hide in, and which is really hard to get them out of. It even has a teeny gap all along the other side where passers-by can put their fingers or their doggy noses into. I wish we could block up that area!
Those Bear Cubs are gorgeous and the female looks just like my (now MIA) semi-feral girl, Momma. I did TNR on her (and rescued some of her kittens) over the summer and miss her a lot. For a stray, she was just about the nicest and friendliest cat you could imagine. I even got her to the point where she would give me head-butts and let me pet her now and then. Haven’t seen her since mid-December. π
Anyway, I wish people would get over the black cat thing — every black cat I’ve ever known has been awesome and sweet. Let’s get those Bear Cubs and the Peppers adopted!
I’ve nicknamed the Bearcats: Bubba Bear and Sissy Bear. They are such loving cats. Bubba purrs as you pick him up and loves being held. He does like to play with you shoe laces too.
Oh, clever, looks like you have a storage drawer taking up the space beneath the cages. One of the centers we rotate through has that cage type with the space underneath, and it can be a bit of trouble to get shy cats out from under the cages if they decide to take refuge there. A drawer would both give more storage space (which is lacking) and remove the problems of kitties hiding out of reach under the cage.
Oh my gosh, if I had access to all those kitties in a Petsmart, I would never EVER leave!
