Mercury is just SO. DARN. PURTY.
“I don’t quite know how to do it, but I WILL use these claws on you, Hubble. You better back off!”
Stardust will have you know that paws are tasty.
“Lady, I don’t know what Telstar is doing, but I do NOT approve.” Stardust: sheriff in the making.
A few of you have mentioned the mark on Phoenix’s forehead and the various things it looks like (a kiss being the most popular). I will try to get some closeup pictures of it soon, and we can decide!
Phoenix, reentering the atmosphere.
It’s funny how there are two comforters on top of a layer of washable pads, on top of a really cushy area rug, and they still all cram themselves onto that folded-up blanket.
On Friday, we were gone from the house for most of the day. When we got home in the evening, I walked into the foster room, and I swear it looked like there’d been monkeys there, flinging poop everywhere. I cleaned it up the best I could and put clean blankets down over the stains, since I didn’t have time – and was too tired – to pull up all the stuff on the floor and replace it. We were busy again Saturday, and there was more poop when I got home. I despaired, cleaned up the best I could, and wondered if they’d ever get the hang of the litter boxes.
(Yes, that’s me. Worrying about the fact that 4 1/2 week old kittens were pooping and peeing outside the litter box and walking through it. As 4 1/2 week old kittens do. It’s in their job description.)
Sunday I finally got all the washable pads and quilts pulled up and replaced… and the kittens have been just about perfect at using the litter box since. I mean, they’re still pretty young, and I know there’ll be more accidents, but they’re doing really well. Hubble even climbed into Mercury’s litter box (which is about twice as tall as he is) and used it.
I wondered if the kittens would ever start eating food on their own, since I hadn’t seen any sign of it, but when I walked into the room and put a plate of pate cat food down yesterday afternoon, Aurora RUSHED over to it and started eating. She ate so much – and so neatly – that I’m sure this wasn’t the first time she’d eaten cat food, just the first time I saw it. I had noticed that one of the bowls of kibble was being emptied pretty regularly, and just assumed that Mercury was eating more since her kittens are getting bigger and eating more. Now I’m thinking they’re probably eating kibble (or at least some of them are) and I just haven’t seen them in action.
These babies certainly are growing up, WAY too fast!

Ah yes, the “huh, I think I’ll crap right here and then walk through it” days of kittenhood… At least they didn’t have the runs. Tender mercies.
Glad these adorable little mucksters are getting the hang of all these grown-up things!
been there – you just have those days where you look around and think “I’m done for the moment” 🙂 Good thing they are cute
I always thought Phoenix’s marking was her mission badge. I don’t know where the others are hiding theirs, although Hubble’s might be on his nose. 😀
Everyone wonders if their kids will ever start to eat/walk/toilet train, and they all do..
That first picture! Milk.Coma.
What you need, Robyn, is a female golden retriever in the foster room. When one of the cats we took in “gave” us two babies, our 2 year-old golden would carry them to the litter box and plop them in. This was after they started eating cat food. Before that, she helped mom out with the cleaning.
It was amazing because she’d been spayed and never even been in heat, so I don’t know where that mom thing came from, but she knew how to take care of babies.
