Starsky likes to pick fights with the big cats. He’s lucky they’re so tolerant of his shenanigans.


Not a great picture, but do you see how long Reacher is? He’s one long cat!


This chicken feather came in on the basket of eggs one evening, and Starsky spotted it and claimed it as his. He sat there and licked it. Then he glared suspiciously at any cats who came near, and then he decided there were too many cats around, so he picked it up and carried it into the other room and licked it some more.


These kittens crack me up – Starsky always looks like he’s suspicious of whatever’s going on, and Hutch has that sweet, open face. He reminds me a lot of Orange (aka Lorna Doone) from the Cookies, not only in temperament (sweet, willing to snuggle, friendly, and did I mention sweet?) but with the open little face. They are just the sweetest little monkeys.

(Did I say “sweet” often enough up there? THEY ARE SO SWEET SWEET SWEET.)

Loony Jake. Here’s something I don’t think I’ve mentioned about Loony Jake: he’s a growler. If he hears a sound that he doesn’t recognize, he growls. When I snapped this picture, we were upstairs in the foster room (when the fosters are given the run of the house, our cats LOVE it, because they really like hanging out in that room, playing with the toys, climbing the cat tree. All the fun stuff they can’t do when the door is closed!). The garbage truck was going by, and the entire time they drove by the house, stopped at the driveway, and picked up our garbage, Jake was growling. It’s not a hysterical growl or a particularly loud or scary growl he does, it’s almost under his breath, a warning growl. If the doorbell rings or someone knocks on the door, you can depend on Loony Jake to growl.

  1. My Emma growls like that. I call her my “guard kitty”. 🙂

    Busy…yes. Can you put both side bars on one side? Or make the text there black and the text with the kitties the blue? I think the blue is bolder than the black so you can not “tune it out” of your vision. It actually makes it hard to focus on the center with all the cute kittyness!

  2. The white and tan is nicer. Can you bold the center text and keep your border text regular font? That will help keep the eye in the center. 🙂 Hate to be a nitpick! LOL. You are my FAVORITE kitty site…yes even over IBKC. I love your humor, heart and husband. Not often are the men onboard, too! (And I love Corbett!)

  3. First, congrats on working on L&H. I know that part of things can be a bit frustrating when there’s kitties to be cuddled instead!

  5. I think that the column for the posts is so narrow that it makes the pictures feel smaller. (Are they smaller for real?) And the blue/grey background is a bit dark for them. If you could manage just one sidebar I think it’d be easier on the eyes. And my eyes like to be free to appreciate the joys of the current kitties! 🙂

    (I’m sure whatever you end up with will be fine.)

    1. Hermia, I think I am going to go back to the one-sidebar design (whether it’s the old design or a different one hasn’t been determined yet!) I won’t get a chance ’til this weekend, but hang in there, things will get better. 🙂

      The size of the middle column is dependent on the size of your monitor, I think – Fred’s monitor is huge, and the middle column is much bigger on his monitor than mine. If that makes any sense!

  6. I have one who does that! If I’m sitting eating lunch, and Daphne is huddled hopefully on the table nearby, and we hear the sound of mail being dropped in the mailbox, she’ll let out a quick little growl before she runs to the window to see. She never notices the garbage trucks, but the mail going into the box always gets her started.

  7. Our current boy growls at the post(mail)man, the window cleaner and anyone else he doesn’t know who has the gall to come into HIS garden i.e. into any one of the four or five front gardens in our little corner.
    Our previous boy was a long cat like Reacher (is it reaching for the stars that’s made him grow so long?) and we used to call him “string bean”!

  8. Another way you can fit more stuff is to have a tabbed layout, so each page can be clean but pages for alternate information is still pretty easily found.

    Don’t know how easy that is to do in HTML/Wordpress, but is how I cram a lot of stuff into a UI when programming.

  9. Ah, a boy and his feather… And I love how Loony Jake growls to protect his kitten charges from evil trucks and such!

    As for the design, I prefer the old one with one sidebar. Sorry.
