Something about grocery day really gets the Bookworms riled up. They love to hang out on – and in – my reusable grocery bags and fight with each other.

Melodie’s face is cracking me up. She’s like “I SEE what you’re doing over there. STOP. IT. NOW.”
“Who me, bite? Never! Come closer…”

I’m a little impressed that Elwood managed to get up here. Even more impressed that the cabinet didn’t collapse under his weight.

2009: his hernia is FREAKIN’ ME OUT, MAN (also: Jake and Elwood show up!)
2008: No entry.
2007: (We don’t let Newt wander freely through the house, because being inside freaks him out and he’ll sit at the door to the outside and howl to go out. He’s not an indoor cat at ALL.)
2006: No entry.
2005: That’s just the way it seems to go for us.
My girl loves those grocery bags too. Last week at the store I presented one to the cashier that was more cat fur than bag. I think she was quite horrified.
‘she’ being the cashier, not my cat. 🙂
@zorbs – LOL!!!
All it takes is on day of my massive furballs to slaughter the chair out in the Florida room. If guests drop by unannounced and plop down in “their” chair…well I don’t even want to tell them what their butts look like when they stand up! By chance (honestly), my kitties match my couch, so you can’t see the fur on it. My girlfriend calls them “designer kitties”. 🙂
make that “one day”…not “on day”. Sorry.
What is it about grocery bags that kitties love? My Henry is often in “trouble” because he’s pulled my cloth bags down and strewn them about. My Oscar boy likes the plastic bags better. We have to be sure there are none around that he can get ahold of in the middle of the night. He likes to use them as alarm clocks. 🙂
Hi! I absolutely LOVE your blog! I found it by way of Amy & The House of Cats. I love your writing style, and I have a similar sense of humor, so I really appreciate your writing and captioning of the fantastic photos you take. (I am such a dork that I actually went back and read your archives from the beginning – it was so much fun to read!)
As a fellow foster kitteh parent, I find your blog to be educational, hilarious, and inspiring. I have only been fostering for a year, and really admire your long-term commitment to fostering. We started our fostering experience by keeping our first two fosters (Cookie and Caramel) largely because our original three kitties were not the lap cats that Cookie and Caramel were. (Schemers! They spotted our weakness and moved on in.) We have since successfully fostered and adopted out 10 felines, with one more pending for later today, and 6 more fosters in the house.
Thanks again for all that you do to help the felines in your area and elsewhere through your posts of felines in need.

Aw, they are all such cuties – and of course the bags are popular – bags=awesome in cat world!
And seriously, what were you doing that disturbed Melodie so much (ha!) But Martin – oh that face – he could so be Barney’s little brother with his coloring. And Moxie is beautiful too – black kitties always are!
And Elwood doesn’t look that big – though he looks like he knows what you were going to put as the caption, and is not happy about it!
@Zorbs: Oh, tell me about it! My bags are coated in cat hair. I just pretend not to notice. 🙂
@The Furry Bambinos: Thank you so much! What a wonderful compliment. Thank you for reading! 🙂
@Amy: Elwood’s really not that big, but he’s shaped like a big ol’ football – all belly! I think if he keeps going the way he is, he’s going to be massive in another year!
I recognize that bag! Mine is usually filled with feline as well. Hannaford must bake the kitty crack right into the fabric.
Does Martin have a mischief meter nose? My Bobby has a mostly white face and when he’s perfectly calm, his nose is a very pale peach. The more wound he gets, the pinker it gets, and when it hits magenta it’s a sign that he’s about to commit pure mayhem. 😉 (“Cat? What are you doing in the ceiling?” “Mow?”)
Hmmmmmmm, my Hannaford bags aren’t a big draw. What am I doing wrong?
Sarah, my Sweetpea has the same nose color indicator. Must be blood pressure or something…
Awww the Bookworms love shopping!! That’s so sweet!! They’re really growing up fast! Great to see them together playing and enjoying the bags and the sun!
Awwww Melodie and Moxie and Martin and Dodger are just adorable!!!!!! I just want to scoop them up and give them lots of hugs!
Elwood is gorgeous. He’s a happy kitty! 🙂
Take care
x
@Sarah: I haven’t noticed the mischief meter nose, but you’d better believe I’ll be keeping my eye out for it now! 🙂
@Doodle Bean: Obviously your brats aren’t nosy enough! 🙂
I just had to comment because my cats love the reusable bag, too! They will take turns laying on it or in it, and defending it against attack. Whoever wins gets to lay on it! Like King of the Mountain, with a grocery bag.
