PAWS UP, Y’ALL!
Good night, innernets. (Bubble)
This morning we said goodbye to George, the 157.5 pound Great Pyr who guarded the back forty and his chickens from predators, songbirds, and hot air balloons.
We lost his sister Gracie unexpectedly last August, and I don’t think George ever really recovered. He got old overnight and though he did his job well, his heart was never really in it without her.
We spoiled him as best we could, showered him with attention, but in the past few weeks he started to fade. Yesterday was not a good day for him, and so we let him go this morning.
He was the best good boy, right up to the very end.
July 23, 2008 – June 3, 2016.
Let me introduce you to our new fosters. The adorable brown tabby is JJ, and his orange tabby brother is Tinker. They’re 10 weeks old, and will be with us for about a month. They are the absolute sweetest, and purr instantly. Barnaby, Bubble, and Squeek are with us for another week, so I might have to flood you with pictures and videos tomorrow, just to keep up with the cute!
“Is Caturday?! I loves Caturday!!!” (Bubble)
Wahhhh! He’s Da BAYbee!!! (Barnaby Mouse)
JJ has a wee nub of a tail, and occasionally he wags it, and then I die from the cute.
For those of you wondering what Fred’s names are for these fosters, Fred posted this picture on his Facebook page with the caption: So we got a couple of new kittens to foster for the next month or so. They’re brothers, and one of them has no tail. Their names are Nubby and The Gooch.

I’m so, so sorry to hear that George has left the back forty. I know that he and Gracie are now happily reunited over the rainbow bridge.
In a laughter through tears attempt – I’m still snickering over Miss Bubble having spoken her peace and counted to three. Barnaby Mouse and Squeak have a long walk to the cabin in front of them.
I read your site everyday for the smiles that it brings. Thank you for all you do for the cats and your readers!
Normally I would never ask what I’m about to ask, but because George & Gracie were more than just beautiful gorgeous wonderful pets, and were, in fact, also working dogs, will there eventually be new additions to the back forty?
Please note I said “new additions.” Not “replacements.” Because you don’t replace family members. Heartbroken and so very sorry for your loss.
Robyn has said before that there will not be new additions.
Ugggh. So hard to say goodbye to our furry friends, especially such magnificent companions. I’m pretty confident he felt Gracie’s loss, and know he was in the lap of love with you and Fred. Hugs to you and Fred. RIP George.
Baybees on baybee blankets! Squee! Lots of those would make good banner pictures (see 2015) and also they could be put on the favorites page if you needed something to do-j/k. <3 Hugs to your heart and Fred's as well.
Aw, sweet George, you’re with your sister Gracie now, and so much better, I’m sure. Chase all the hot air balloons and rainbows together.
Nubby and the Gooch, lol.
So very sorry to hear about George. I remember thinking that might happen when Gracie passed last year. No doubt George suffered a broken heart, and missed her terribly. They both had a wonderful life with you & Fred, so take some comfort from that.
Run free with Gracie at the Bridge, sweet George.
So sorry for your loss.
I was so sorry to see about George. I know you are a cat and not a dog person, but still, my condolences and I know you will miss him so much.
Wait, what?
What happened to George? I know he missed Gracie terribly. I’m so sorry for your loss but I can’t say that we didn’t see this.
Sweet, sweet boy.
Robyn, My deepest sympathy on the loss of George. He was such a good boy. I know you, Fred, and the chickens will miss him.
Bubble, Squeek and Barnaby are heart-breakingly cute, but the new guys are adorable – and for some reason I’m always drawn to the nubby tailed kitties.
I was just thinking about George, wondering about a Crooked Acres round-up. I’m so sorry for your loss.
Do they grieve? Absolutely. Our great Pyr mix lost his elderly Husky companion about a month ago, and hasn’t been the same since.
I’m so sorry about George.
“She’s a handful! #Squeek” photo reminds me of Saurkraut.
