Can I just say how much it cracks me up every time that you call it “gen pop”? I have mental images of very tough kittens glaring meaningfully at each other and forming small furry gangs.

I have to admit that Fred’s the one who started referring to it as Gen Pop, but I picked it up immediately. It always makes me laugh, too!

One.. two… Three… FOUR … FIVE???

Umm… What was again the limit for being a crazy cat lady? 😉

The fosters don’t count, ’cause they’re not staying! That’s why I can say I’m not a cat hoarder, because we might currently have (gulp) 18 cats in the house, but only (!) 11 of them belong to us. And according to Laurie’s sidebar, you’re not classified as a crazy cat lady ’til you have 13! (I don’t know if she’s counting fosters in that total, though. Surely not?)

Oh they are all cuties – M’Lynn looks like she could be my baby Barney’s little sister! She has more white but the colors are the same. How long will they be with you?

They’ll be here ’til February 16th at the very least, as that’s when they’re due for their vaccinations. They may be here a little longer (it all depends on how adoptions go), but they’re here for at least a good solid two more weeks!

Claireeee looks like she might have a bit of bengal in that nose too… Does she have black feet?

I actually had to look and see, and it turns out that the only Magnolia girl who has any color on her feet at all is M’Lynn, who has a small splotch of black on one of her back feet. All the others have completely white feet. Drum does have black feet, though!

Ouiser is taupe and white, Robyn… a very sophisticated color scheme, actually! 😉

It sounds like she came right out of the LL Bean catalog, doesn’t it? 🙂

Yesterday, we did a bit of redecorating in the foster kitten room. We rolled up the old rug (a remnant we bought at Lowe’s about 2 1/2 years ago) and replaced it with a much smaller rug. Then we moved the cat tree downstairs and brought the BIG cat tree up to the cat room.

Of course I don’t have any pictures of the finished room to show you (that would be a very organized thing to do, and trust me, I am NOT the organized sort), but I’ll get some soon. The smaller rug makes the room look a lot bigger, even with the much larger cat tree in there.

And the cat tree is a huge hit – Ouiser must have spent twenty minutes batting at one of the toys hanging off the upper level!

I have been terribly lax on getting pictures of Steely Dan and Fagen – I’ll remedy that before tomorrow, promise!

We got two Ham-Micks from Forty Paws, and I set them up over the weekend. To say they were a hit would be a HUGE understatement.

For the first few days, the cats were literally standing in line to lay on the Ham-Mick. The last couple of days, they’re completely ignoring it. That’s par for the course with our cats. They’ll ignore it for a while, and then eventually someone will claim it as his or her own.

I moved one of them up to the foster kitten room, and the kittens really enjoy their Ham-Mick. When they’re feeling playful, one of them will lay on top of the Ham-Mick and another will lay underneath, and they’ll bat at each other through the material.

So, yes – we definitely recommend the Ham-Micks!

  2. Love the Ham-Mick pictures!

    Here’s a question I’ve wanted to ask you about your Gen Pop kitties: How do you persuade them to all get along? Or do they? We have a hard enough time with 3 kitties – they are constantly harassing each other and stressing each other out (especially the smallest of the three, who for some reason has become the alpha cat and an absolute terror to the others). I can’t even imagine what it’s like with 11+, or do cats start to get more social when they’re in that large of a group?

  3. I have 2 of those ham-micks, too! My cats run hot and cold with them. More adorable babies and those names are hysterical.

  4. Ha ha! Only eleven permanent residents? I think your pushing the crazy cat lady limits Robyn 🙂 And Laurie does say it varies from state to state, so you never know in your neck of the woods, hee hee.

  5. I think the crazy cat lady question also depends on what type of home you live in. I’m in a 675 sq ft urban condominium with 2 cats, and I swear having even 4 or 5 in here would qualify me as a crazy cat lady – sometimes 2 even seems like too many, especially when I am sweeping up cat hair. Eleven would probably qualify as a public health hazard, no matter how often I scooped the litter.

    If I had a big house, though, I’d love to have at least 6, plus fosters. I used to foster before my old lady torties found me, but I definitely don’t have the space to foster and have permanent residents in my current home.

    The Magnolias are gorgeous! I love Ouiser’s colouring, though based on your comment above, I want to call her LL Bean now.

    I love the Ham-Micks, but whenever I buy anying for my girls that is supposed to be for cats, they ignore it. I bought them nice cat beds, but they seem to prefer sleeping on piles of clean laundry, on piles of clean laundry, and in shoe boxes. Well, boot boxes, really – my girls are way too big for shoe boxes.

  6. We really need to get at least one of those Ham-micks for our house – I am sure they would be popular.

    And only Feb 16, wow that is quick! I guess they are a bit older though, so it makes sense!

    And I agree with Karen – I think the house size=crazy cat ladyness. See, we have 5 rooms (not including bathrooms) so I think 5 is ok (although I would go up to 6). That way everyone can have a room to themselves if they need it (even if some can’t really be closed off, they can all have “alone time”). But if you have a bigger house with bigger rooms, then that would be different. Our biggest issue is where to put more litter boxes (I am going to build a litter cabinet in the next couple weeks for upstairs).

    And don’t worry about the eye booger picture – I am sure I have them because somehow Barney is an eye-booger making machine – I swear I clean them and half the time by the time I get a decent picture they are back!

  9. Got to get me one of those ham-micks! Can’t have too many cat toys… they do get bored with them so I TRY to remember to cycle them, just like you do for kids.

    Cracked up over Ouiser under the scratcher. They don’t grow out of it… I have adults trying to wiggle under, too! 🙂

  15. Awww Miz Poo looks like a little kitten lying there on her Ham-Mick!

    I should invest in some of those for our brood!

    Does the “crazy cat lady” title include other animals? Or is it solely based on number os cats in a house? My house is currently sporting 6 cats, 2 rabbits and 2 guinea pigs. My mum’s is sporting 7 cats, 2 rabbits and 2 large fishtanks… I think we should be considered “crazy pet people!” (Including boyfriend there as he’s not a lady…that I know of!)
