So, Livia won’t be coming back here with me later today, it’ll be just Tricki. I guess we’ll have to take Dennis upstairs to keep her company so she doesn’t get bored!
I’m sorry, what? What’s that, you ask? Why isn’t Livia coming home for a break? Well, it’s like this. Yesterday morning I got to see Livia, and I got to hug her and pet her and love on her. As I opened the door to her cage so that she could jump back in, I told her how smart and sweet and wonderful she is. Then I said to her “I’ll be back tomorrow but I won’t see you, right? Because you’re going to get adopted!”
Livia rolled her eyes, because I’ve only said some variation of that every single time I’ve seen her at Petsmart.
But finally
FINALLY
FINALLYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LAST NIGHT, LIVIA WENT HOME!
(Guess what I’ll be saying to Tricki when she goes back to Petsmart, and Angelo and Orlando – and for that matter, ALL the kitties at Petsmart?)
I AM SO HAPPY FOR THAT SWEET GIRL!

Freezing cantaloupe? I had no idea. I am swimming in cantaloupe. Please tell me how to freeze cantaloupe.
You just slice it, put it on a cookie sheet, flash-freeze it for a couple of hours, then put it all in a big freezer bag. Fred says itβs not as good as fresh cantaloupe, of course, but in the middle of winter heβs not going to be too picky.
We’ve also started dehydrating cantaloupe, which takes up a whole lot less space!

Mrs. and Mister Dolores! If you see the web a rockin, don’t come knockin’?? But I have to confess I expected the last picture to be of Dolores smoking a cigarette and snackin’ on the Mister, not chocolate-covered flies! π
The funny thing is that when I reported to Fred that Dolores was having a snack, he thought I meant she was eating the Mister. π
[The other day] I went out to eyeball Dolores (she is so tired of me right now), and she was alone in the web with one single spider leg hanging in the top corner of her web. I went into the garage and came out, and the Mister was back and they looked at me all innocent-like. I wonder if he was off hiding the body!

boy Angelo’s nose got broad didn’t it?
Angelo’s EVERYTHING got broad! He gained a lot of weight while he was in that cage at Petsmart. We put him on light food, and he seems to have gotten a bit smaller, but hopefully he’ll be adopted soon, and can have plenty of space to run around in – that boy loves to play.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Who is the Cheese Doodle that arches up to meet the hand that pets him and has a loud purr? I know you described one of them that way, and it made me want to zoom down to Alabama and steal him.
Blaster’s the one who arches up when you reach down to pet him, and it is SO sweet. Livia actually does the same thing!
I got to see Blaster yesterday (I covered for the Thursday morning cleaner at Petsmart, and am covering today as well), and he’s still arching up to be petted. SUCH a sweet boy!
Ooooh, a project for Fred – hacking one of your cat’s collars for the next time they go prowling. I realize you don’t have a huge amount of neighbors; still might be fun
It would definitely be fun!
Tommy has a gorgeous shine to his fur. I love that about the black/brown/reddish blackbrown kitties. Does he have stripes or dots that you can only see in the sun? Like black panthers?
I had to wait to answer this question ’til after I got a good look at Tommy, but I can report that there appear to be no stripes or dots, he’s just a gorgeous solid reddish-brownish-black.
I was checking out the Permanent Resident page for Dennis’ bio (not gonna say anything about it not being there…), and stumbled across Tubby’s bio. At his heaviest, how much did the lad weigh? Two of my guys are rather rotund, Gandalf tipping the scales at 27lbs *gasp* (we’ll find out how much Malcolm is on Friday when he goes in for his checkup at the v-e-t). And yes, I’m taking steps to turn them into the Biggest Losers, lol.
Yeah, Dennisβs page is on my lengthy to-do list. I’ll get to it SOME day!
I believe the heaviest Tubby got was 22 pounds. He was actually a small-framed cat, so I always thought he looked much heavier than he was.
This kitten’s markings reminded me so much of Miz Poo (albeit mirrored)
What a CUTIE!
question from 2011: what do you do with the dehydrated zucchini
We ended up not doing much at all with it. I threw it in spaghetti sauces and chili, but it was kind of chewy and neither of us was crazy about it, so Iβm pretty sure the compost bucket got most of it.
Okay, first, Dennis has surely caught some of Jake’s loonies in that close-up!
And second, have George and Gracie seen this? If not, don’t tell them!
The loonies are easily transmitted, y’know!
George and Gracie have not seen that; the internet connection in the back forty isn’t that great, and the chickens keep pecking at and disconnecting the power cord to Gracie’s laptop, because they think it’s a worm. However, I do have to say that Gracie would be an excellent mayor. She’d have that town whipped into shape in no time flat! George, on the other hand, would make an excellent Barney Fife. (Hey, this can’t be news to y’all – I do always tell you that Gracie’s the brains of the operation!)
The last of the Angelo and Orlando pics!
Angelo in the front, Orlando in the back thinking judgey thoughts about his brudder.
The bros. Was there a feather teaser involved here, do you suppose?
Orlando slipped around his brudder to get a better shot at the teaser.
When I see a picture of Orlando and Angelo together, I have NO problem telling who’s who. But if it’s a picture of just one of them, I have a really hard time telling which one it is.
Orlando in the front, Angelo in the back.
Orlando on the left, Angelo on the right, and Tubby looking on from his spot on the wall.
Orlando and Angelo went off to Petsmart just fine – not HAPPY about it, but they were okay. I was thinking they were going into separate cages, so I set them up that way, but found out later on that they were supposed to go into a big cage together, so Kathie (the adoption counselor) was going to move them together last night. I’m glad they’ll be together, hopefully they’ll be comforted by each other.
I got to see Marshall and Blaster (as well as Tricki and Livia) yesterday, and I gave them lots of love and snuggles. I took the camera with me yesterday and will again this morning, so I should have pictures of them all for you in Monday’s post.
So so so glad Livia was adopted!! I was having trouble working a trip to Alabama into my schedule!
If my eyes are welling up, I can only imagine how happily dehydrated you and your fellow Challenger’s House colleagues must have become on hearing this fantastic news. Godspeed, Livia, and may Tricki, Orlando, Angelo, and all who’d been awaiting great families find them soon.
My heart started to sing and my eyes got misty when I read about Livia’s adoption! PTL! I am sooo happy for her!
I am so incredibly happy that Livia got adopted & normally I’m all “YAY! for [insert kitten name here] !” But with Livia, I am dying to know who was finally smart enough to take her home because I think I love this person. Do you know ANYthing about her new hoomins at all?
Seconded. For some reason it is really important to know.
It is. I want updates! I pray that she doesn’t get returned….
Kathie said that she was a youngish girl, who lives with her 16 year-old brother and mother (the brother and mother were in on the decision via text). I don’t know if there are other cats in the house or not (if there are, it shouldn’t be a problem, Livia gets along with other cats). Hopefully we’ll hear from her! I always include a note in the bags of toys directing adopters to this site, so fingers crossed. π
[crossing fingers next to yours]
Thirded. I too want to know. Would be great if they’d give her an FB page too, like Thomas’ humans have done. BTW, I went over and liked his page and also said Hi, just like you asked us to, Robyn. (I’m good about following directions that way…)
oops, now see that Robyn posted a reply while I was writing my comment…
Hurrah for Livia! So glad she finally got adopted π
Re: Livia getting adopted.
This is the best news ever. Livia languished far too long in my not so humble opinion.
I agree! π
YAY for Livia!!!!
Am I the only one who wonders what Jake is hiding in there….he looks a little…ummmm…intoxicated. π
Oh HURRAY for Livia and her new people!!! I hope she is treated like the queen she is!
So, so glad that Livia’s family arrived. Sweet girl’s been waiting so long.
So does that mean that Tricki can have her television spot or is there another kitty’s that’s been there too long that needs the exposure more?
I’d love to have Tricki on the news, but I don’t think she’d do well at all. I’m not sure who’ll be on, actually. Right now it’s mostly kittens at Petsmart, maybe if Blaster and Marshall are still there, they can go. Or I could take someone from the shelter, I’m not sure yet. I’d love to take Angelo and Orlando, but they’re scaredy cats and wouldn’t do well, either.
Yay for Livia! Yay for Livia’s lucky new family!
Congratulations to you & Livia on her adoption. I know it has to happen to get them adopted, but I always hate when your fosters have to go to the cages. Wishing for speedy adoptions for Angelo & Orlando as well. They deserve it, as they all do.
Have a wonderful life in your new home Livia.
Oh, I hate it too – and Fred’s even worse than I am about it!
Hip hip hooray for Livia !!!!!!!!!! Her new family will not be disappointed !!!!
The pictures with Orlando and Angelo are fantastic !! They are so excited ! It looks like they are saying “oo oo oo feather teaser !” because their whiskers are so forward. I love when kitties do that !!!
Have a great weekend !!!!
What a wonderful way to end the week, to learn sweet Livia’s been adopted!
May she and her family have a wonderful, long, and loving life together!
Yay for Livia! It has been such a long time for such a sweet kitty. Hopefully the bros Angelo and Orlando can get homed together. I saw this today and thought about several of your kittens in the past, who have been looking for a substitute for mom in all the wrong places:
