On Tuesday, Tina was spayed. I dropped her off first thing in the morning, and she was home again by late afternoon.
I just knew that if we didn’t have her spayed pretty soon she’d go into heat (it tends to happen when the kittens are about 6 weeks old) and I’m not sure the world is ready for that amount of VERY LOUD CHIT-CHAT. The next scheduled spay/neuter day isn’t until mid-October, and I didn’t want to wait.
The kittens were perfectly fine – I bottle-fed (well really, syringe-fed) them during the day, to differing responses (Sydney: big fan. Richie: medium fan. Jeff: “NO THANK YOU.”) They were happy to see Tina when she got home, and yes: she is still producing milk. In fact, she got in their faces and told them to get their butts to the milk bar about ten minutes after she got home.
Also, now I know: put Tina in a carrier, put her in the back of the car and cover her carrier with a towel, and she has NOTHING to say. Not one sound from her on the half hour drive to the vet.
Carmy checks to see what’s going on in the hammock.
Sydney says: I’m watchin’ you, lady.”
Carmy considers his next move.
I’m pretty sure Jeff needs a kiss. (Jeff always needs a kiss, in my opinion.)
Sydney says “Whatchoo doin’, lady?”
Sydney, checking out Mama’s food. (Yes, that mat is a mess, and yes I did clean it after I saw this picture.)
Richie always looks so worried.

Charlie has a complaint, and his complaint is WHEN IS IT GOING TO COOL DOWN, ALREADY?! (Okay, it’s possible that’s my complaint, not his.)

Posted on social media (Facebook/Twitter/Instagram/Tumblr) yesterday.
Richie, Jeff and Sydney are 5 weeks old as of yesterday! (And Carmy is 5 1/2 weeks – well, 5 weeks and 4 days – as of yesterday.) Here’s what they look like now. Weights below:
Carmy: 1 pound, 9.4 ounces (720 g)
Richie: 1 pound, 5.2 ounces (601 g)
Jeff: 1 pound, 3.3 ounces (547.1 g)
Sydney: 1 pound, 2.9 ounces (535.8 g)
Look at this gorgeous girl – that’s former foster Branwen (Juniper, 2016), and Tamra said: “Sometime in the last few weeks, several of your pictures of Ms. Adorable Tina showed her with eyes looking a pale straw color or sometimes a light green color. Some of the readers asked about that and I believe you mentioned that lighting was a factor. Several days later, I got a picture of Branwen which demonstrates exactly that! Her right eye is in the shadow and looks a pale straw, whereas her left eye is in the light and looks light green. I kissed her and told her she is so smart, because she obviously setup this demo!”
(Thank you, Tamra! And give Branwen more kisses from all of us. 😍 )

Sydney vs. Carmy. I don’t know that they’re a bonded pair, but these two certainly do spend a lot of time play/fighting with each other.
Richie’s working on his Halloween cat pose.

The kittens are crazypants-ing it up in the foster room.
Good night innernets. (Sydney & Richie)

Oh my god, the Sugarbutt story from 2006! I’d read it before but for some reason, I just start hyperventilating when I get to “levitated out of the cube” I don’t know why it sends me into hysterics, it just does!
That story cracks me up every time, too! I can still see him levitating and then just HANGING there for what felt like a long, long time. It was hilarious!
They went from wobbley kittens to climbers in what seemed like a couple of days.
When they decided they were outta there, they were OUTTA there! 🙂
Sydney’s hidden swirls are fabulous in her 5 week portrait!
I know, she and Jeff have some very cool markings!
Hey, hope you all are taking precautions, not where if you’re in Helene’s path but stock up just to be safe.
I think we’ll be okay! We’re only expecting some wind and rain, and we always stay pretty well stocked up. 🙂
I wish so much I could adopt Tina. I absolutely adore black cats and have 2, one of which is vocal like Tina. If we didn’t have 6 cats already, I’d scoop her up in a heartbeat.
Wow, it seems like they went from, “We’re not leaving the crate for whatever is out there!” to “What can we climb!” in about 2 days!! Maybe we missed the transition last week when you were taking a mini break.
It happened pretty quickly! They took so long to come out of the crate that when they decided they needed a crate-free life, they were serious about it.
Sydney definitely has the highest forehead, but super cute!
