Back when I first got Uhura and the Trekklings, I looked around online for a Star Trek scratcher or cat tree. There’s not anything like that out there (except for a small custom-made $300+ cat tree on Etsy, and ha ha ha NOPE), so I figured I was outta luck.
But someone out there was thinking laterally, and last week we received THIS:
A rocket! For when your transporter is on the fritz! Kirk checks out the upper level, while Troi examines the lower level.
Spock and Kirk check out the stabilizers to make sure they’re, uh, stable.
Kirk’s all “The foster room looks so much smaller from up here!”
Uhura takes a moment to herself.
Troi checks things out. (They are simultaneously enthralled and confused by that space window. They like looking through it, but aren’t sure why they can’t walk through it.)
Janeway, Kes and Troi get ready for their next mission (if you look closely at the space bubble, you’ll see Spock mid-yawn. Or maybe he’s yelling “Watch out behind you, there are aliens. SOMEONE PUT UP THE DANG FORCE FIELD THINGY!”)
This is a Boots and Barkley scratcher, which is the Target brand, but I don’t see it on Target’s web site. The one I got came from Amazon – affiliate link right here. The reviews on Amazon have some complaints about how it’s cheaply made, but as far as I can tell it’s holding up as well as previous Target scratcher/houses I’ve had. Of course, with anything made of cardboard, all it really takes is one good barf to ruin the thing, so keep that in mind. It came with small round pieces of tape to put over the seams – I used those up and used packing tape as well, and so far it’s not falling apart.
My only real complaint, and it’s a minor one, is that there’s no way to get to the second level of the scratcher from inside, and it’s a little bit higher than the kittens can jump. I solved that issue by putting a short cat tree behind the scratcher, which worked fine, and then ended up pushing the scratcher up against the couch, which works even better.

Posted on social media (Facebook/Twitter/Instagram/Tumblr) yesterday.
It’s Toesday, so please admire these beans while Janeway makes sure her slappin’ paw is sparkling clean. Dirty paws don’t perform a satisfying slap, and that’s a fact.
Kirk’s trying to sneak up on me, but he’s not very good at it.

Troi’s got a little somethin’ to say, and Janeway gets a kiss. Also, an awful lot of nothing, including a long shot of the floor. A lot going on in a 24 second video, am I right?
Uhura’s hanging out on this scratcher, trying to get a little quiet time, and she doesn’t appreciate the intrusion. (Just kidding – she had just chirped at me so I’d pet her.)

Kirk and the travelin’ cube. A 4 minute video of the kittens being absolutely wild. (I did not intend it to be quite so long, but they kept cracking me up.)
It’s a Troi pie, and you can rest assured that that is my FAVORITE.
Good night innernets. (Spock and Kirk, who do not look particularly sleepy, but believe me when I tell you they were out cold about 30 seconds later.)

It’s a little suspicious how often Alice Mo’s video gets substituted for your intended one…does she hang around in the evening when you’re designing the next day’s post??
I think it’s more the kittens’ fault because I am easily distracted. 🙂 (They’re fixed now!)
I just realized! Uhura has the Star Trek symbol on her nose.
Yep, that’s how she got her name. 🙂
That scratcher is adorable-especially the 2nd floor window.
I think that window is my favorite part! They’re so confused by it.
Thank you!!! for the navigation at the very bottom of your pages. I didn’t realize how much I relied on just clicking the (home) link at the very bottom in the old version. Does this new theme support a dark mode plug-in? This new version looks great BTW.
If I can remember the code that Fred added (to make the links), I’ll add a “home” link in the center of the before & after links, because I think that would be useful. (Side note: if you click on the banner at the top, it will take you to the front page of the blog, which is something I use a lot.)
I’ll see if I can find a dark mode plug-in that will work. If it shows up, I was successful. If it doesn’t, I either was unsuccessful, or haven’t gotten around to it yet. 🙂
I have a silly question. Do you turn the lights off at night when you say goodnight to the fosters?
It’s the Sisterhood of the Traveling Cube!
That thing TRAVELS!
Amazing captions, as usual. Robyn, you really are an awfully clever “CatCaptioner” 🙂
The kittins (especially Kirk) looking out through that space window is next-level cute, I must say.
Aww, thanks. 🙂
I love how you write. It is almost like you are talking to us (which you probably are doing).
