I dropped Jon Snow off at Petsmart around 11:30. An hour and a half later I got an email from Susan…

Jon Snow went home to join his new big brudders, who you have met before – Ashford and Beans (formerly known as Baby Beans)! Hopefully we’ll get updates on the boys as Jon Snow settles in.

A few hours later?

They were adopted… TOGETHER! And just like that, I went from three kittens at Petsmart to NO kittens at Petsmart! In fact, the only foster we’ve got at the moment is Norbie, who will be with us just a little while longer.

As the only kitten in the house, I couldn’t in good conscience lock Norbie in the foster room by himself, so he got to stay out all night. At first he raced and raced (and raced!) around like a wild thing, leaping and jumping and requiring a scolding. Then he snuggled up next to me under the covers while I read. Then I’m not sure what he did for the rest of the night – I do know he slept curled up next to me for at least part of the night, and then woke me up at 4:15, rolling around and purring and kneading. A little snuggling, and then he was off to parts unknown while I went back to sleep. I imagine as the next few nights go by, he’ll adjust to being out all the time.

Yesterday morning I spent two hours scrubbing and organizing the foster room. The door is now shut so that no one can go in there (Sugarbutt and Tommy are more disturbed about that than anyone – they like hanging out in there during the day. I don’t think Norbie has even been back upstairs since he realized he was freeeeeeeeeeeeee) and hopefully it’ll be occupied in the near future (but not today. Not THAT near of a future).

NO DETAILS FOR YOU. Yet. I don’t want to jinx anything!

Locals! Did you know that the North Alabama Spay and Neuter Clinic, located in Huntsville, has NO income requirements? You don’t have to qualify, everyone pays the same low price – cats are $45 for a neuter, $55 for a spay. Dogs are $60 for a neuter and $70 for a spay. You certainly can’t beat those prices!

Go “like” them on Facebook. Go on, now. You know you wanna!

I still have pictures of Jon Snow, Hodor, and Brandon, so I’ll share those today and tomorrow, so we can gaze upon their sweet little faces and remember how utterly adorable they are (and there’s some Norbie pics in there, too, of course.)

It’s a Norbie! In a box! A Norbie in a box!

Norbie and Jon Snow, tussling.

Norbie and Jon Snow, snuggling. Such snugglebugs, these two. Since his snugglebuddies have all left him, Norbie has resorted to snuggling with Jake when he needs some feline affection.

“Who, ME? I wasn’t doing anything! No, really!”

Sweet, sweet, sweet Hodor.

“HODOOOOOOOOOOOR!”

Kitten bellies make good pillows.

Jon Snow, annoyed with me even while sound asleep.

Spotted, long-legged Hodor.

“BRANDOOOOOOOOON!” Nope, sorry. Doesn’t have the same ring to it, little guy.

Sometimes his eyes look SO blue, and sometimes they don’t look blue in the slightest.

Stefan checks out Norbie in the box.

Norbie would like A LITTLE PRIVACY, PLEASE, Stefan.

This picture reminds me so very much of…

This one!

Aww, Jon Snow. You silly, sweet boy.

Oh, Joe Bob. 75 cat beds in this house, and you use my boots as a pillow. You make me despair, young man.

I was wondering if Jon Snow’s eyes did that. One of my girls is a Siamese/tortie, and sometimes her eyes are very blue, and sometimes a very pale blue. I’m hoping one of your readers might have an explanation.

It’s the light. But I’ll look forward to a longer explanation from an expert. Meanwhile, the news re the Stark threesome is fantastic — here’s hoping for updates soonest. Kisses for handsome Joe Bob and his fellow four-footers!

eye color relates to the amount of pigment (all the same kind). Brown eyes have the most pigment, blue the least. The eye color we see relates to light reflecting off those pigments. Variation in one individual’s eye color relates to the light shining on the eye and the pupil (dark area; big pupils can squish the pigment, making the eye color darker).
So, while people think blue or green eyes are “colored” eyes while brown eyes have the least color, it’s actually the opposite — brown eyes have the most pigment!

Awww man, I really would love to see pics of Jon in his new home. And with Baby Beans!!! Though I bet not so much a baby (at least physically).

So glad the heat miser and brandon were adopted together. Bet they run around like wild things for years to come!!

Whoever’s going to adopt Norbie better hurry, or else….

Great news about the adoptions, and Brandon & Hodor going together… how awesome is that. Poor Norbert all alone now, so you’ll have to give him lots of extra snuggles & kisses. Hard to do I know, but I’m sure you can force yourself for Norbert’s sake. I’ll miss the Starks, but am looking forward to your next batch of fosters. Congrats on the adoptions.

OH yes, Poor Norbert.. I bet he is just horribly deprived and oh so lonely over at chez love-and-hisses 😉

I need to look for a plug-in that will do that!

Thrilled about the adoptions–but who could really resist them??!! And updates would be grand, of course. And the next batch of fosters hinted at…can it get any better?!

    Yeah for adoptions!!!

I don’t often leave fosters out at night either, but if they are big enough, it does happen. I leave my bedroom door closed during the day so the first night, the door opens into some magical place they have never been. Cracks me up everytime to see kittens tiptoe in….you know, just in case.

Oops! I posted this on the Saturday entry (this Monday morning!) hoping to get a response. I was too entranced by the kittehs to notice that it wasn’t actually the weekend anymore, though I sure wish it was! Anyway, here’s the question I posed earlier:

“Also, a question: I eventually want to adopt a cat or 2, but I think I may be slightly allergic.

I went to the local shelter and spent some time in their cat colony (6 cats together in one room), and my eyes were itchy when I came out. I had this reaction before when I was taking care of a friend’s cat for a week, but I wanted to be absolutely sure, and so I spent about an hour in there with the cats.

I have heard that some people can get used to this over time, and fortunately itchy eyes were the only reaction I had. Any suggestions on how to mitigate this?”

    1. Deb says:
      September 16, 2013 at 4:49 pm

You’ll develop resistance to your own cats over time. Kind of like allergy shots but nicer!

    2. Robyn says:
      September 16, 2013 at 9:01 pm

I don’t have any suggestions on this front, but I’ll post the question on Friday, so hopefully there’ll be some helpful advice from others.

I will say that 6 cats in one (presumably small) room is probably more concentrated fur and dander than you’d have at home, so I wonder if you’d even have a reaction at home.

    3. Kim O says:

You will have a couple weeks of allergies when you bring your kitties home, but you will get used to them pretty quickly. I recommend Zyrtec for the first few weeks, and if you know you’ll be hanging out with other kitties, since you will build up a tolerance only to your own cats.

A triple yay for the Stark Boys! So happy they were adopted (and Hodorpted, hee!) so quickly! I will miss those babies and their sister.

And: Norbie and Stefan crack me up!
