Crooked Acre Wednesday.
Throughout the year, I file pictures that I’ve taken of non-cat things around the property into a “to be shared” folder, and when things are a bit slow (come ON, Natalie, where are those babies?!) I post them. (At this point, it happens about yearly.)
So here you are – things around here that are not cats! (If you’re not interested and just want the cat content, click here to skip to it.)
Hummingbirds at the feeder. I love these sassy little birds.
Butterfly on the… well, this picture is from late last summer, so I don’t remember what those flowers were called.
Last summer I grew a pot of Purslane – the pollinators loved it, and the flowers were so pretty. Why didn’t I grow some this year? Ya got me – I should have!
This squirrel’s got nursing babies somewhere.
This year, instead of hanging potted plants on the front porch, I put up bird houses. I only INTENDED for them to be decorative, but a bluebird couple found this one to their liking.
Checking out the neighborhood.
They raised a… litter? brood? flock? of babies, and as soon as those babies were gone they raised a second batch. It is entirely possible they went on to raise a third, but I’m not sure. At the moment, it’s pretty quiet.
Grackles approve of the seed selection.
I’m sure I’ve mentioned that we do the packing and shipping for the Forgotten Felines online auctions (new one starting Saturday!) here at my house. We have a TON of boxes, which we keep in the big shed on the back part of our property, and so Fred and I have to haul the boxes to the house from the shed before packing day, and then take the unused boxes back to the shed. This is Fred’s preferred method of getting the boxes back to the shed – pile them in and on top of my car, and drive them. I’m sure the neighbors are like “The Clampetts are at it again” when they see the box-laden car go across the field.

Checking out the plastic ring.
I’m pretty sure she had no idea it was on her head. Eventually she flopped onto her side and it fell off.

Natalie’s eyes are just so pretty!
Post-Churu Natalie (she’s saving a little blop of it on her chin for later.)

After having his second breakfast, permanent resident Newt did his morning exercises (batting at the feather teaser is excellent cardio) and then wandered off for a nap. Not bad for an 18 year old cat!

A non-cat video of the goings-on in my back yard. (I have an outdoor battery-powered Nest camera that I move around the back yard so that I can see what kind of wildlife comes through. The answer: a young fox, various birds, a raccoon family, armadillos, and a ton of possums.)
Good night innernets. (Natalie)

Oooooh this was fun, so many animals and birds and insects we don’t see in the UK!
Love your pics and vid of the wildlife around your place!
Was that Rocco on the Nest cam??
I wondered that, too!
It certainly was!
Love the non-cat things! Your pics are gorgeous and even make the cicadas not so gross.
This was fun! I like seeing pics of the other critters that inhabit your world. I especially like the ‘extra space’ you provided before the creepy crawlies. The cicada was quite colorful. Ours aren’t. I quickly scrolled past the spider. Thank you for the wildlife tour!
Loved all your pictures! We see a lot of these on the ESVA…but only 1 cicada. I thought this was the year of the “great invasion!” I was so disappointed. I wanted my cat to experience it. Though I’ve had over the years say they weren’t tasty!
I see Natalie is getting little boobies! So exciting!!!!! I love your home and your page!
I expected to see a lot more cicadas than we’ve seen – we had about a week where the side of the shed was covered in 20 – 25 discarded husks every morning, but it was nothing like I expected.
bringing a little redneck to the suburbs hahaha
Keepin’ it Klassy!
Love the sound effects ! Was that the next door Rocco?
It was! 🙂
Bluebirds nesting on your front porch!!! What a pleasure to see the other inhabitants and visitors of Crooked Acre. Thank you!
Natalie is beautiful.
Newt has still got it!
The spigots are starting to show in the milkbar!! Soon babees!!!!
Luv that you shared footage of the other critters around your place. The bluebirds are cute. Luv the night time shenanigans…LOL.
