In case you missed it, Rufous and Wren were adopted on Saturday and are now home in the Orlando, Florida area. (Yes, the adopters drove up to adopt them!)
Tater and Starling watched them go, kind of shrugged, and went off to nap. They’re acting normal – Tater is a bit more vocal and if Starling can’t find Tater, she cries for her (and it is the sweetest thing when Tater follows Starling’s cries and says “Here I am!”), but other than that, they’re fine.
Today’s post includes the rest of the pictures I have that involve Rufous and Wren. (I do have a “From hello to goodbye” video for them that I finished late last night, which will post this morning on social media and here tomorrow.)
Starling and Tater go home later today.
Rufous hanging out under the bed. (Why? Why NOT.)
Rufous admires himself while Tater is all “No! This is my mirror!”
Starling admires herself while Rufous and Wren and Tater look on.
Rufous in the sun (such pretty eyes, that boy.)
Wren, checking to see what I’m doing.
Last nap with all four Nestlings.
Going through the pictures of Wren and Rufous from the beginning (to make the video), made me remember just what a mess Rufous was for what felt like a long time. First he had a sore on his nose that looked awful, and then once that started to heal, he had a ton of weird fur loss around his mouth, and then he refused the bottle and I had to tube feed him for 10 days. But he’s grown up to be such a big, healthy guy (have you seen the size of those FEET?) that it was all worth it. And all those times I told myself “Give it time, he’ll be fine. GIVE. IT. TIME”, I was right!
(Wren, on the other hand – I know I’ve said it repeatedly, but that girl had the strongest will to live of any kitten I’ve ever had. She was like “Give me the bottle and get outta my way!” from the very beginning.)
Side note: The day I got Wren (April 14th), she weighed 2.17 ounces/62 grams. When I got Rufous 4 days later, she weighed 3.75 ounces/107 g. He weighed 3.43 ounces/98 grams. Until mid-July, Wren has always been the heavier kitten. The last time I weighed them, on July 29th, she weighed just over 4 pounds/1.84 kg. He weighed 4 1/4 pounds/1.92 kg. Judging by his feet, I don’t think she’s going to outweigh him again! (One of these days I’m going to get their weight chart loaded up on Google docs and make it shareable. I wish I’d done that from the beginning, but I… did not. Obviously. Coulda woulda shoulda.)

Kes thinks she might need a pawdicure.
Gettin’ The Look from Uhura. (That’s Kes flopped over her paw, and I love when they’re at the stage where their ears are flopped forward like this before they straighten up. They look like little puppies.)
Janeway’s all “What you lookin’ at, lady?”
Look at those big bright eyes on Riker.

Newt looooves hanging out on the bottom section of this… well, I think it’s a printer cart, but I can’t actually remember what it started out as. Whatever it is, it’s comfy and Newt likes it.

I feel like I’ve only mentioned this about 300 times or so, so you may have missed it: Wren is a talker. I love her sweet little voice!
Good morning from the milk bar.
Tater/Plover found Rufous and Wren snuggling, and was like “Don’t mind if I do!” and climbed right on in with them.

Box full of paper? Best toy ever!
To all the people asking what breed Uhura is, the answer is: I dunno! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
BUT, someone has sent us a Cat DNA (Basepaws) test to find out just what’s in her genetic background, and so when the results come back, I will absolutely post them! (Usually takes 4 – 6 weeks, if I recall correctly.)

Tossing toys for the kittens. Look at ’em go! (Note: This video is from before they were spayed/neutered Wednesday. I’m not actually encouraging them to leap when they had surgery so recently.)
Tater/Plover is a little bit sun-drunk and Rufous is all “Gee, your fur smells terrific!”

2 minutes in the crate with Uhura and the Trekklings, and Kes cannot stop yawning. (Yes, the bedding is soiled and needs to be changed out. I am aware.)
Good night innernets. (Starling)

The kittens are a little wild this morning (and I cannot believe how LONG Rufous has gotten!)
Hooray, hooray, Wren and Rufous were adopted today! They are headed home right now to Florida (the Orlando area) where they are going to be much loved – and the only pets in the house. (We’ve been promised updates, yay!)
Happy life, sweet babies. ♥️ ♥️ ♥️
Kes shows off her claws (look at that little smile on her face!) Fun fact: kittens cannot retract their claws until they’re about a month old!
Good night innernets. (Plover/Tater & Starling)
In case you missed it, Rufous and Wren were adopted yesterday and are now living in the Orlando, Florida area (their adopters drove up to get them, and that’s no short drive!) I am hard at work putting together their “From hello to adoption” video, which will be posted tomorrow morning. But meanwhile I thought y’all might like to see a collage of tiny baby Rufous in my hand (5 days old), and big boy Rufous in my hand (3 1/2 months old). And somehow I never got a picture of tiny baby Wren in my hand (probably because I was dealing with a LOT at the time, and I didn’t take nearly as many pictures of her as I wish I had) but here she is in my hand at 1 month old and again at 3 1/2 months old.
Look, look – it’s Rufous and Wren at home! They made it home yesterday evening and Rhonda reports that they were a bit tentative last night, but are totally relaxed this morning. So many cool new toys to check out! ♥️ (Thanks, Rhonda!)

Tossing toys for the girls. Wren and Rufous went home yesterday, so it’s a much quieter play time. They’re having fun, though!
They seem to be adjusting to Wren and Rufous’s absence well – Tater is a bit more vocal than she was, and Starling will call for Tater if she doesn’t know where she is, so I’m sure they miss them.
The Trekklings are checking out the universe beyond the crate, and they’re not sure they approve. (Top: Janeway (left) and Kirk. Bottom: Spock (left) and Troi.)

Tater/Plover and Starling have a purrrr.

The milk bar’s hoppin’, and Troi (who sounds like a rusty hinge) has a complaint about the service.
Janeway’s keeping an eye on YOU.
Good night innernets. (Starling)
