A couple of days ago I opened the door at the top of the stairs and let the Crumbs out into the rest of the house. It took no time at all…
For Pita to come creeping down the stairs.
Neighborhood/front porch/garage kitty Rocco was coming through the house (don’t even get me started on that ridiculousness) and they had a sniff.
Pita and Uncle Khal had a sniff.
Then she said “Okay, guys, it’s safe! Come on down!” and they did.
Khal just sat in the front room and watched the kittens circle and sniff him.
He got a little aggressive when he was sniffing Crouton, so she semi-floofed for just a moment.
Babka sniffed Uncle Charlie’s paw and decided he was okay.
Then Pita and Babka played with Uncle Khal’s favorite track toys.
Having them run around the house during the day has been fine – the first day, they stayed downstairs the whole day. The second day they stayed upstairs the whole day. And yesterday, they spent some of the day downstairs and some of the day upstairs. The permanent residents are okay with the kittens as long as they don’t get too close, and even if they do, they just get a hiss for their efforts. They go back into the foster room at night (around 8:30), so the permies get a break. So far, so good!

Bolt’s all “My mama said to tell you she’s not taking any meetings at this time. You may go.”
Skip’s keeping an eye on me (and looks like he needs a nap).
Lollygag is a talker, have I mentioned?
The Hopalong Gang is 3 weeks old today! They’ll be leaving the crate at any moment, I can just feel it… and this time next week I bet I’ll be reporting that they’re using the litter boxes (that I’ll put out this weekend)!

Posted on social media (Facebook/Twitter/Instagram/Tumblr) yesterday.
These two pictures crack me up because note that Ciabatta (far left) has the exact same little smile in both shots. I mean, granted – they were only taken about 10 seconds apart, but still. He’s so CUTE (they all are!)

First, the kittens eat… and then mama goes off to eat while the kittens roll around and look adorable. They are on the verge of leaving the crate – I suspect it’ll be in the next day or so (they turn 3 weeks old tomorrow, so it’s about the right time!)
Lord save any kitten who thinks Auntie Alice is going to put up with them being this close. (Pita vamoosed before Alice could work up a good hiss-and-smack.)
(The Crumbs now have the run of the house during the day and are working on how to respectfully approach the permanent residents and not get a hiss-and-smack for their troubles. They haven’t quite refined their approach yet, but they’re getting there!)
Good night innernets. (Ciabatta and Pita)
(The fosters go into the foster room overnight – they only get the run of the house from about 6 am to 8:30ish pm – I got this picture of Ciabatta and Pita napping on Uncle Newt’s heated bed earlier in the day.)

So fun to watch your cat- life, love how you give them a happy life. Lovely kittens. Best wishes from Sweden
Pita has always been a favorite. She is brave ! I don’t think I would want to be that close to
Auntie Alice. Pita shows great depth. What a darling !
So is anyone running a pool on how long before Trixie and Rocco are official permanent residents?
How nice to see all the Crumbs’ interactions with the Big Kitties.
And the cute little Hopalongs just getting cuter every day.
Mama counting her kittens from 2013 just cracks me up!
Me too! 🙂
Your staircase is really lovely with all the turnings and monkey tail railing. I never noticed it before.
