I just adopted a mama cat and took her to the Humane Society to get spayed. She will have to wear that awful cone for the next 2 weeks (she won’t, she gets it off of her faster than I can put it on). I never see any cats on this page with cones. Does the vet have a different procedure? What am I missing? Thank you
The vet we use uses surgical glue rather than stitches. We’ve never used a cone (or a post-surgery suit) and have never had an issue with kittens/cats messing with their incisions. It really all just depends on the vet.

So, Pita was supposed to go home this weekend, but she’ll be with us for a while longer. Something’s going on with her health-wise, and we need to figure it out. Yes, I am being intentionally vague – once we know what her diagnosis is, I’ll fill you in. Until then, just know that whatever it is, it isn’t life-threatening to her, and it isn’t transmittable to others. She’s a perfectly normal kitten – eating, playing, snuggling – there’s just this one weird thing going on, and we need to find out why before we send her home.
(Michelle has talked to the adopters, and they’re fine with waiting.)

Carson says “Are you eating chicken? You are going to find this SO UNUSUAL, but I myself like a bit of chicken every now and then!” (Yes, he did get a few tiny little bites of chicken.)(The lighting in the dining room isn’t the greatest – his eyes are greener than they look in this picture.)

I know that Franc looks like he’s twice the size of Lira in this picture, but it’s the angle – they weigh almost exactly the same.

Pita visits the Hopalong Gang.
Pita says “Why you sitting on a giant piece of bread, kid?”
Skip says “I dunno, it seemed like the thing to do.”
Pita shows off the ol’ hisseroo to Skitter and Skip, who dared get too close to her.
Pita made Dillydally (near) and Bolt (far) put on their floof suits.
Pita gets flirty with Dillydally, who wants none of it.
Letting Pita into the foster room turned out to be a total nonevent as far as Meander goes. I thought for sure that the first time Pita hissed at a kitten, Meander would attack.
That didn’t happen. Pita slapped and hissed at Bolt, and Meander said “Yeah, he probably deserved that.” She’s been back in several times, and every time has been perfectly fine.

When Rocco wants to take a stroll through the house, he jumps up into this window and waits for someone (Fred) to let him in. Then he slowly walks the length of the house and goes back outside. Whatever floats your boat, Rocco.

Posted on social media (Facebook/Twitter/Instagram/Tumblr) yesterday.
The Hopalong Gang turned 6 weeks old yesterday! Here’s what they look like now, and here’s a closeup of those gorgeous eyes.
NOTE: Forgotten Felines of Huntsville (the rescue I foster for) does not accept applications on kittens before they’re 10 weeks old, so if you’re interested you’ve got 4 weeks before you can apply.
Bolt, Skip and Dillydally are getting their blep on. I thought it was Thlurrrpsday, but apparently I was wrong – it’s Blepsday!

Her own kittens aren’t the only ones who like to play with Meander’s tail!
If I’d known that Meander would be THIS calm about a strange kitten coming into the foster room and making her kittens hiss, I would have let Pita in days ago. She smacked the little kittens, made them hiss, made them put on their floof suits, and Meander was like ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Pita visits the Hopalong Gang; the kittens aren’t sure what they think about this big interloper, but Meander is completely unconcerned.
Throw Back Thursday: Trader Joe (from the Grocers litter), back in 2014. I was looking for another picture, saw this, and the caption (below) cracked me UP.
“Hallo innernets, someone asked if I’m cross-eyesed, so I was all ‘Lady, what is cross-eyesed, and am I that?’ And she looked at me and was all ‘Your eyes is not like super crossed, they is just a little off kilter or askew.’ Then she laffed and laffed and was all ‘those would be good names for kittens’ and wrote them down. So, whatever.” #funnynotfunny #TraderJoe
Throw Back Thursday: Praline (from the Cajuns litter), in 2017. I got to wondering just how long I’ve been doing the “Good night innernets” thing, searched the blog, and voila: this was one of the first. (And yes, Praline was sound asleep, hanging out of the scratcher.)

A fluffy calico lapcat and snuggler. Tala will have a home in nothing flat the _instant_ she is done raising those babies.
If I were anywhere near, that forever home might be mine. A fluffy calico lapcat snuggler lovebug… squee! Alas, distance. If the And3rson folks ever get that darn teleporter working, I totally volunteer to snuggle Tala. 🙂
So sorry about Sterling. I think one of the greatest pains in fostering is the loss of a kitten/kittens.
Glad that Pita is getting to know the little ones with little disturbance. Hope that her health issues are nothing to be concerned about. Better to check things out early, before it (she) gets out of hand (literally). 😉
Pita is so big compared to the kittens! I think that Meander is probably happy to have her keeping the kittens occupied for a while so she can eat in peace. I hope that Pita’s health problem can be quickly and easily (and cheaply!) remedied!
When Our girls were spayed, I put a onesie on them. Look up on the internet as to how to size and adapt one! WalMart was very helpful. Hoping Pita gets the green light to go home pronto!
The kitten bleps….SQUEEEEEEE!!! Bleps crack me up.
Is Pita’s weird thing possible related to her swimmer’s legs?
Nope.
Hi – it seems Pita understands to show some restraint with the younger kittens, is that true? Enjoy the videos of her and the kittens. Is there a chance to see Carson and Pita and/or Carson with the younger kittens?
Most of the time Pita understands to be less rambunctious with the little ones (you can see that though she smacks AT them, most of the time she doesn’t actually make contact.) But sometimes she gets a little too crazy and tumbles one of them, but most of the time she’s a good girl.
Carson wasn’t allowed in with the little ones – Meander was tolerant of Pita because I think she can tell she’s still a kitten, but I don’t think she would have done well with an adult (recently neutered) male.
