Saturday morning, knowing that Maura’s new mom was going to be arriving any time, I let Maura out of her room where she’d been sequestered for the week. She immediately came downstairs, hung out in the chair in the computer room, sat on the dryer and looked out the window, and when her mom arrived, she was rolling around on the rug in the kitchen.
This is where, since Maura is now safely ensconced in her new home, I can tell you who her new mom is – Kathy in Birmingham! Kathy says things are going well, Maura is happy in her new home, and she’s a snuggle bug.
I just love the fact that Maura has a home, that it’s a home with people I can harass for updates on her, and she’ll never have to sit in a cage at the adoption center. It’s no secret that black cats often wait a long time before they’re adopted, and I didn’t want Maura to have to go through that (well, I never want ANY of my fosters to go through that, of course).
Yay for Maura, and yay for Kathy!

Now that Maura is gone, we’re down to just our eleven, plus four fosters. Why, it’s like we hardly have any cats in the house at all!
Except for times like right now, when all four of the fosters are supercharged with energy and flying around like their butts are on fire. They love ALL toys, but they especially adore crumpled up balls of tinfoil. Bolitar carries one around in his mouth and growls at any other cat who comes near. With the money I spend on cat toys, their favorite toys are the tinfoil balls, the milk jug rings, and boxes. Why do I bother buying cat toys, again? (Oh, right. It’s an illness!)
They certainly make themselves at home, don’t they?
“Here is the snacks, lady. Did you forget where they are?”
I’ve been giving the Bookworms a morning and evening “snack” of canned cat food. I decided yesterday to cut out the morning snack. That went into effect this morning, and boy were they confused. They came upstairs after I got out of the shower, like they do every morning, and they escorted me down the stairs to the guest bedroom, like they do every morning. I scooped the litter box like I do every morning, and then I walked out of the room without giving them a snack. You could practically see the question marks over their little heads, like “THAT’s not right!” They followed me around and mewed and chirruped and rubbed up against me, then I threw toys for them, and they were distracted just long enough to forget that they hadn’t had their morning snack and were starving to death.
I absolutely adore them at this age.

Newt, keeping an eye on the chickens. Those two are Sassy and Sissy McGee, our two free-range chickens. They fly out of the chicken yard every morning to wander around our property, and then fly back into the chicken yard at night time. If they were prone to wander beyond our property, we’d clip their wings so they couldn’t get over the fence, but they don’t, so we don’t. (And I really like seeing them wander around, scratching and pecking.)

Oh I’m so so so happy that Maura is now in her forever home. I will miss her here though – she;s been such a character and an adorable one at that too! Thank you for looking after her and for all the pics and news and info. She is one sweet kitty – I’d have grabbed her to take with me if I was there! LOL!
The Bookworms are too adorable as always. They are just so precious – and I’m sure will settle into their new routine (no more morning snacks! Oh dear!) soon. And yes, I think they own your place for now! LOL!
I love your chickens!!! Hello Sassy and Sissy McGee!! Newt is very good just watching. π
Take care

I knew there was a reason that I like little Corbett…
He is cute for one thing… and has lovely stripes too!
I got a laugh out of the cat toy bit. I, too, am adicted to buying toys for our cats; I consider it an achievement if I can get out of the pet store without buying any! Our cats have always enjoyed tinfoil balls, too. In fact, a few years ago we had a litter of kittens here as we had adopted a stray female who, logically, turned out to be pregnant. Tinfoil balls were one of their (many) toys. I had to laugh when I heard from one of their adopted Moms that she was just shocked that the tinfoil she lined the baseboards with to prevent the cats from scratching them was being TORN INTO BITS by her new kitten! Hahahaha!
Oh, when you get a chance, check out the Rescue Kitten Cam in NC–eight new babies were just added and I am absolutely fascinated by them, for some reason. It could be all the Caliconess. They have more kittens in another room; think they have 15 in all right now. Doesn’t that sound like fun?!?

I’m so sorry I didn’t get to meet Maura, but so happy to know she’s in a great home and doesn’t have to see a cage at Petsmart. Those kittens are so dang cute. It was nice to play with them for a little while even if Reacher and Rhyme were brats and didn’t stay out long. Love the pics of Miz Poo with the babies. I still might have to steal her some day!
People are nuts! Black cats are the BEST!!!
Your story about the bookworms’ little confused heads is just too great! And I’m totally getting the “cat toy buying illness” too… I spend all that money on fancy toys and they still spend hours playing with a box. We also discovered how much they like bubble paddings π
It’s so great that Maura gets to go straight from your house to a home. And to think that you rescued her from a kill shelter! She has noooo idea how lucky she is!! Talk about happy endings π
(As I’m typing this, Mike & Gus are sprinting around the apartment like they’re rocket-powered. Especially Gus. I’ve noticed that when I play with them with their favorite toy, the feather teaser, Gus does the absolutely most adorable thing – he wiggles his butt as soon as he stops moving, IN ADVANCE, so that when he needs to sprint and pounce for the feather he’s ready to go. How funny is that!)
Well, for me the color isn’t a big thing – I like black, white, orange, whatever color. My first cat Floyd was a big black cat – and he was a sweetie. I think that really little black kittens look like bears – we keep joking that Mac, the cat who just had kittens we are taking, had 5 kitten and 1 tiny bear.
And yes, fun cat toys aren’t always the ones you purchase – have you ever tried using a tape measure – that is a new “toy” the cats discovered this weekend and Barney loves to play with it.
And Newt is so good not to chase those chickens – they would be in big trouble at our house – giant feathery toys!!
Yay for Miss Maura being adopted and happily ensconced in her forever home! I will miss her a lot, but hopefully her new mom will send us lots of updates π
Laughed at the tinfoil vs expensive toys bit…yes, our home too is littered with cat toys but the all time favorites are the rings around the milk jugs and the balls of tinfoil…at least once a day we see Bailey Bear walking around with a ball of tinfoil in his mouth, growling at anyone who might even THINK of taking his foil away from him!
Kudos for Maura and Kathy !
Those Bookworms are LETHALLY cute. I wish I could have me one.
Lisa S: Oh my, that is one awesome link, thanks for it! π
Lisa: Miz Poo says she’ll go pack her bags, just in case!
Marian: He’s winding up his engine! π There are times when Reacher reminds me a little of Mike – he likes to go boneless and flop against me and it always cracks me up.
Amy: I’m going to have to get my tape measure out – I can definitely imagine the fun they’d have with it. I’m sure it’ll be stretched out from one room to the other in seconds flat. π
Lordy, if those tabbies aren’t the cutest things in the world. I mean, our tuxedo and our tortie are lovely, but our tabby is just adorable; and yet these little guys could kick her butt in the cuteness department.
OMG, what’s wrong with Miz Poo? Sleeping with kittens???
Superb happily ever after for Maura. Miz Poo is all talk. And has Corbett told you that he’s my boyfriend? Just sayin’..
