Are any of the kittens Da Bay-bee?
and
I thought we’d established that Almanzo was Da Baybee.
Until I get verbal confirmation when I ask “Are you Da BAYbee?” I don’t consider the kitten worthy of that title. I’ve heard a whine here or there from Almanzo and Mary (and occasionally the others), but when I politely inquire “Are YOU Da BAYbee?!” they look at me like I am off my rocker. I’ll keep asking, and hopefully soon I’ll get a response – but for now, it’s all up in the air!

BTW, in the “Sleepy pile o’ cute” picture, who’s the sleepy little monkey with his face buried in Laura’s tummy, and wearing a contented smile?
That’s Willie!

Caroline decided, some time last weekend, that it was time for the kittens to start having the run of the upstairs. She accomplished this by spending a couple of hours every evening moving the box away from the doorway. Since there was a 25 pound bucket of litter holding the box in place, I think it’s safe to say that she was QUITE determined. So Tuesday morning when I opened the door to the foster room, I didn’t set up the box. The first day, the kittens started in the foster room, checked out my room briefly, and then ended in Fred’s room for the better part of the day. The second day, more of the same, though they spent more time running back and forth between the two rooms.
Yesterday, they got to meet the vacuum cleaner. I am always very careful when vacuuming around kittens because I don’t want to terrify them. I would never vacuum in a room where kittens can’t escape, I move slowly, I give them plenty of room to get around me. It went pretty well, actually – they were nervous, but curious, and mostly wanted to stay away from the noise. (That’s pretty much how Charles is around the vacuum cleaner – though he’s more curious than nervous. Caroline, on the other hand, will smack the heck out of the vacuum, and it’s hilarious.)
Charles and Caroline can go into Fred’s office if they want to, but the kittens can’t (the box is blocking that doorway now), but I suppose in another couple of weeks they’ll be able to jump over the box, so that’ll be interesting.
My parents are arriving later this morning to visit for a couple of weeks, and I’ll be interested to see how Charles, Caroline and the kittens react to them (I suspect they’ll all be perfectly fine.)
Pa shows off his climbing technique.
Yeah, Laura, you do that. You climb right up the back of the chair, NO PROBLEM. (Guess what kittens got their little sharp claws trimmed yesterday? ALL OF THEM. Ma and Pa, too.)
Mary checks out her reflection.
Mary was so impressed by the shower that she got all floofy.
Family shower. (That shower is beyond awesome. It’s one of my favorite things about this house.)
We got this toy in this month’s Cat Lady Box – it’s a battery-operated butterfly on a wire – and some of the kittens (Laura and Mary) found it awesome, and the rest did not. Caroline found it interesting, too.
By the way, I totally forgot to weigh the kittens on Wednesday, so I weighed them yesterday. We have one kitten (Willie) just over the 2 pound mark, most of the others hovering just below 2 pounds, and Laura at 1 pound, 9.5 ounces. Caroline weighed 7 pounds, 2.2 ounces yesterday, which means that when you add up the weight of all the kittens, they’re 9 pounds, 5.3 ounces, and outweigh their mama by a little more than 2 pounds (if I’ve done my math right.) You can check out their weight chart at the bottom of their page.

Happy Friday, y’all! OMGosh! That photo of those three little imps after Charles leaps from the cat tree to the bed!!! They’re all like, “Whoa!! How’d he do that?! I wanna grow up and be just like Pa!” No, they seriously do look amazed!!! Oh, and Robyn… I have always loved all the woodwork and built in cabinetry your ‘new’ (meaning not exactly new – where does the time go!!??) house has… but that shower!!! GeezoSchmeezo.. THAT is da bomb!!! Enjoy your visit with your folks!
Getting a kiss from Pa and making the “Stopppp you’re embarrassing meeee!” face! 😀
Have fun with your folks!!
That is one bodacious shower. I want one like it!
I also desire a video of Caroline attacking the vacuum cleaner, because I’m fairly sure that would be the funniest thing I’ve seen all week.
While driving into work yesterday, the radio guys got on a topic about technology and mentioned living on the prairie like the Ingalls family. I just started giggling, trying to imagine ‘our’ Ingalls family dealing with out of date technology. Heh.
Great group of pics today. I have a feeling your family is in for two weeks of fun and games with the kiddos upstairs. Second the shower love.
Oh if that’s Willie smiling in his sleep then my day is DONE. It’s too much. That is the most contented picture of the Baby Half Pints ever!
I laughed out loud at the image of little Caroline pushing that box out of the way! She is a good mama, and her babies needed out of the room! I also suspect she smacks the vacuum to protect her babies.
And I just love the pictures of Charles and Caroline playing with the kittens – they’re really just kittens themselves!
