I haven’t named the kittens yet – haven’t even really thought about it, to be honest – but Fred took a look under the tails yesterday, and (drumroll please) we have (in birth order)…
To no one’s surprise, the orange and white tabby is a boy!
The kitten I am currently calling “the lighter tabby” is a girl!
The kitten I am currently calling “the darker tabby” is a boy!
And finally, the kitten born last, who went a-travelin’ ’round the mama with her own little suitcase, who I am calling “the white-faced kitten,” is a girl!
I’ll sit down and decide on names probably by the end of the week or over the weekend. Definitely by Monday!
I weighed the kittens yesterday, and they were all right around 5 ounces. So, they’re a little bigger than the average newborn kitten. Which is to be expected, I think – after all, they had plenty of room to grow in there!
Nola was so annoyed that I weighed her kittens and made them cry that she herded them to the back of the crate and gave me baleful looks.
Then she forgave me and moved around a little so I could see them.
Then she relaxed enough to leave the crate and eat, but kept a very close eye on me. In this picture we have, from the top down: light tabby girl, white faced girl, orange boy, and dark tabby boy.
A closer look at light tabby girl.
Orange boy (up by Nola’s head) comes to check things out.
I spent a lot of time in the foster room yesterday (I mean, DUH) and by the end of the day Nola was pretty much “Yeah, pick ’em up, do whatever you want, I DON’T CARE.” She also spent some time out of the crate hanging out, and flopped down against me for petting. It’s nice to see her relaxing into her role as mama – especially since she’s not going to have to do it again!

I inadvertently rustled a pile of papers, and Jake came running over to see if I had a treat for him. (I did not. It’s Jake’s opinion that I need to start storing bags of treats in my desk drawer, a suggestion I will consider.)

What about names from The Quarter? Bienville, Burguandy, Dauphnie, chartreuse…etc!
I think Gumbo would be a marvelous name for the little orange boy.
π that would be adorable!
Nonsense, he’s the golden brown delicious color of a beignet so he should be called Beignet!!!
Winner winner, chicken dinner! I was right! 2 boys and 2 girls! YAY!!!
They are such beautiful babies! Good job, Nola!
“With her own little suitcase”. You crack me up!
Oh those little faces. It looks like the Lighter Tabby Girl has her tongue sticking out a bit. I can’t even…
I hope you gave them the their first kisses before you set them back in the crate after weighing them.
She did have her tongue sticking out a wee bit! I had to sneak kisses – Mama Nola doesn’t believe in kissin’!
Laissez les bontemps roulez, little traveling girl!
“Let the good times roll!”
Kah thunk! TOO. DARN.CUTE. The little orange one reminds me of Shecky.
*ETA: Actually Rickles and Louis were MORE orange. So maybe it is the attitude showing already.
Aaaaaaaaadorable! That is all.
treats in the desk drawer? you never get anything done….
those are some cute kittens – wonder if they will be short haired or fuzzy
A fantastic Mamma Nola and her absolutely adorable babies are just what the doctor ordered. I just had surgery and need to really take it easy for a while. I can not think of a better way to spend the time than looking a this gorgeous family. Can I get a prescription filled of a video of squirming, mewing babies ???
Let me see what I can do for you! π I have to say, they are actually pretty calm for newborn kittens!
So cute! I wonder how many will be floofy.
We are thrilled to see the new babies up close! Such cuties!
for a minute there I thought you were going to say she was all over your shenanigans..
I have a bag of salt for my fish tank and whenever I touch it everyone thinks I’m getting out the treats.
Oh, she had absolutely reached shenanigan overload!
I have no idea why but the first tabby reminds me of that olive salad on the muffaletta sandwiches and the darker tabby reminds me of the oyster shells at the Acme house. Just saying…
And that last little girl has a pink nose like a shrimp in gumbo or etouffee.
I don’t have Facebook so can’t respond there but wanted to say the video you posted of the little orange guy hissing has killed me with the cute. π
Oh, I know – the little fierce face!
The little orange boy, with the hissing and the attitude, he’s a Tater Boudreaux (Tater B., T-Boo) if I’ve ever seen one. π
T-Boo sounds like a football player! π
I know I was joking the other day but maybe AfterMe is a good name for the little last arrival π
