Sights from around Crooked Acres
(from last week, when it snowed)
Dennis was 100% not loving that wet cold stuff.
“Why you make it snow, lady? Don’t you know we in the south?”
Front yard, looking toward the road.
Luckily I’d filled the bird feeders recently.
The area between the back yard and the back forty. That red building is the garden shed.
The ditch will be full of water ’til about mid-summer.
Chicken coop. You can see George moseying out from under the protective covering. He and Gracie spent a lot of time frolicking in the snow when it was actually coming down, but once it was done, they were done, too. I think Gracie was in the coop.
The chickens were staying either in the coop or under the coop (where it stays dry.)
Some of them came down briefly, when I tossed some scratch for them.
Standing next to the coop, looking toward the pond.
The ducks on the pond. They have a nice warm straw-filled duck house, but preferred the water.
George, coming to snoopervise.
Boy, that bright white snow sure makes George look dingy.
Straw in his furs from his naps in the coop.
When the sun is shining, we open the big door at the end of the coop so the chickens can line up and enjoy the warmth (it helps to air out the coop, too.)
The ducks followed me back from the pond, thinking I might have something good for them.
One day a few months ago, Fred stepped onto the front porch to refill the cat food bowl there. A possum was actually at the food bowl, and when he saw Fred come out, he scampered over to hide. In Maxi’s heated cat house.
I know it looks like I was super close here, but I was actually several feet away.
I snapped a few pictures and then we left him alone.

They love that basket so very much!
If you look closely, you can see a row of tiny teef peeking through.
Peter has conquered Foot Mountain.
Paul is confused and concerned about the fact that I didn’t paint the bottom of that shelf because “no one will see it!” Joke’s on me.
That scratcher bowl – it’s a Petstages Snuggle Scratch and Rest – has taken a serious beating with this litter of kittens. They’ve started peeling the outer layers off on the other side. I imagine one day I’ll walk in and find it in pieces scattered all over the room.
Oh, that FACE. Is it any wonder I spend all my time squeezing and kissing these kittens?
Paul swung for the phone and missed.
Put your tongue back in your mouth, son, it’s gonna dry out!

Videos! The first one is of all three kittens laying on me, fighting with each other (apparently I am super comfy to lay on.)
And the second is of the three of them racing around, bouncing, jumping, and fighting with each other.

Stinkerbelle, having finished her morning snack, thinks that a snuggle with Tommy would be JUST the thing to start the morning off right.

I love the way the world looks right after a few inches of snow. And the quiet is amazing. Those new babies are just gorgeous. I love them all but I am told by the mean old man who lives here that 4 is enough. I disagree but want to keep peace in the house.
I love this litter. Oh, wait. I love all kittens. Please give them kisses from me!
If I MUST. π
I love snow. There, I said it.
Robyn, judging by the lickings you got in the video, you taste good, too!
she haz flava
I either have a flava, or I need cleaning. π
Logged in and got the Ruth banner….omg CUTE!
And this current litter is just too adorable for words. Would love to drive down and get them all, but a certain grey tuxie I know would be very upset.
I think there needs to be a banner of kitties belly-up in a bed. The Ruth picture cracks me up, as does the one of Baby Dorfy on her back. I know there are several more like those (Ember!), so I think that would be a totally fun, laid-back banner!
Yes! Norbie has an adorable stretched out on his back photo.
does Maxi know she is going to have to serve an eviction notice on that possum??
Maxi ain’t skeered of no possum… but she’ll sleep in the garage, if you don’t mind. π
Boy you certainly had a winter wonderland last week but since it’s so rare in your location the poor critters were probably very confused. May spring finally arrive across the country.
Whoa! The new Peter banner is awesome. Raooorrrr!
Is it just me, or does Peter, the house panther, have the slightest hint of eyebrows in a few of the pics today?
Oh yeah, it kind of looks like it, doesn’t it!
I can’t believe you have snow there and I have no snow in Idaho!
I have a question about your cat fence. Mine is arriving today and I have been reading the training information provided by PetSafe. Did you go through the harness and 3 week training process with each cat or did they learn it all a lot faster than that? The directions seem more tailored to dogs than cats and I purchased the actual cat fence. I can just see Little Boy looking at me like I am nuts if I wave the flag around, pull him away from the fence and praise him. I can see him now rolling his eyes at me. I am hoping to keep a young cat from doing whatever acrobatics are necessary to get off of the deck.. there is so much chicken wire around our deck now… well I could keep our chickens on the deck no problem.. but not Little Boy. All my older cats are too lazy to work that hard to get off the deck anymore, just this youngster.
Thanks for any pre-training advice.
Let me save this for Friday’s post! (The short answer: we found that it took being zapped twice for the cats to figure out where the boundary was!)
Heehee — Dennis and the snow!! π
That snow sure is pretty, despite the feline disapproval!
That last picture, right before the videos, of P & P on the cat tree, is SO CUTE I ALMOST CAN’T STAND IT!!
Can’t tell if Dennis looks offended or annoyed.
Maybe both.
He thought it was interesting until it melted, and then he was like “Why am I WET?!”
Ohhhh those babies are SO. DANG. CUTE. I’m ready to win the lottery so that I can buy a bigger house and adopt dozens of kitties π I could drive down to Alabama and just clear out the entire Challanger’s House! π maybe someday π
That sounds like an excellent plan. π
you know.. sometimes it has to snow in Southtown to brighten up Santa’s spirits
Every now and then the Heat Miser has to let his brother have a day or two down here! π
That’s right! π
Awww….. first Rufus sighting in 2011. I always think Archie is him for a second.
He was such a little character! I remember how dead certain I was that he was a pregnant female. π
For shame, woman! (I’m sure that’s what handsome Rufus would have rejoined.) I still adore and miss that boy.
