To no one’s surprise, the kitten started leaving the crate over the weekend! First Mondo made trips out to make sure it was safe, and then when I went into the room yesterday morning, they were all out, nursing. They leave the crate to nurse or explore, and then go back into the crate to play and sleep. One day they’ll leave the crate completely, but for now they see it as home base. They’re not going too far from the crate just yet, though once or twice Mondo and Kudzu wandered away and then had to be shown how to get back. Mimosa’s not too concerned about them wandering – and in fact, I’ve seen her go into the crate, wake them up, and coax them out to the milk bar. I’m sure having room to stretch is more comfortable for her.
I set up a couple of small litter boxes and have put all the kittens into them a couple of times, but they aren’t interested yet. Still a little too early yet for that.
When they’re lined up like this, it’s because they were nursing, fell asleep, and then Mimosa left. Left to right: Clover, Hollyhock, Kudzu, Bramble. (Mondo was in the crate.)
Then he opened his eyes and gave me this look.
And he complained “I’m tryin’ to sleeeeep, and that lady keeps taking my picture!”
Mondo said “Shhhhh. We’re ALL tryin’ to sleep!”
Clover gives me the serious face.
Mondo goes looking for a Mama hug.
Hollyhock serves as a leg rest for Mimosa.

Posted on social media (Facebook/Twitter/Instagram/Tumblr) over the weekend.
Clover’s all “Kudzu! Lookit my delightfully spotted belly!” and Kudzu’s all “Yep. That’s a good belly.”
“I don’t wanna be rude or anything, lady,” says Mondo. “But I really don’t see anything out there worth leaving the crate for.”

At the milk bar. They’re more interested in tussling (and tellin’ me how it is) than nursing – but Kudzu’s bellied up to the bar. And everyone is being cute!

How do these things [legs] work, again? They’re trying to figure out this “walking” thing – it’s like their front and back feet are moving at different speeds. They’ll get the hang of it… eventually!

I walked into the foster room to feed Mimosa, and Mondo came strolling out of the crate like it was no big deal!
One moment Kudzu’s awake, and the next – thunk! – he’s out cold!
Bramble’s all “Oh, I’m not going out THERE” while Clover and Hollyhock look skeptical.

Mondo’s still the only one out of the crate (check the video I posted earlier for his first trip out), but I suspect it won’t be long at ALL before the other kittens can’t resist the call of the new and exciting non-crate areas of the world.
“Maybe tomorrow we leave the crate, lady, okay? Today we stay put.” Bramble in the front, Kudzu behind him, and Hollyhock and Clover curled up asleep. Where’s Mondo? Out of the crate stomping around, of course.
Annnnd they’re out of the crate! (Not permanently – they’ll return to the crate for a while to sleep and play.) Left to right: Bramble, Kudzu, Hollyhock, Mondo and Clover.
Exploring! Mondo has sniffed both of the litter boxes I set up for the kittens, but he’s not interested yet.

Hollyhock: the epitome of grace. Hollyhock shows off her graceful ways; Clover shows off his delightful spotted belly.
Mimosa’s still using those mirrors to keep an eye on me.

Mondo, Clover and Hollyhock are out of the crate, while Kudzu and Bramble hang out in the crate. Mondo shows off his getting-back-in-the-crate skills, and Clover might have a crush on my slippers.
Kudzu giving Hollyhock a hug… awwwww!

After Bramble’s first little mews, I asked “Are you the Baybee?” LOL! (from Friday’s video of the kittens nursing and being cute) Have there been any auditions from the kittens to be Da Baybee yet?
Kudzu is very much a Da Baybee candidate.
What delightfully fat little muffins!
