The kittens have been named!
I think I mentioned that I’ve taken a look and think we have 2 boys and 3 girls. So say hello to…
#1 kitten: Uno, who is suspected to be a girl.
#2 kitten: Slapjack, suspected to be a boy
#3 kitten: Pinochle, suspected to be a boy
#4 kitten: Whist, suspected to be a girl
#5 kitten: Rummy, suspected to be a girl
#6 kitten: Fizzbin, suspected to be a girl
The funny thing is that I don’t really play cards, so except for a few games of Uno and Rummy (and none in recent memory), I haven’t played any of these games. And I would like to take credit for Fizzbin, but someone – possibly on Facebook, I unfortunately don’t remember who – suggested it, and it’s a good name so I went with it. It’s a reference to the original Star Trek. I wouldn’t say I’ve never watched the original Star Trek – my oldest brother was a fan, so I’m sure I saw a few – but I’m not super familiar with it. But like I said: good name!
So now my main goal is to remember which kitten is which before the nicknames set in… and you know they will!

I piled the kittens into this box so I could change out the pad in the bottom of the crate. They fit nicely!
Look at that happy little face. Awww.
Canasta did not approve of the kittens being anywhere other than the crate, even briefly, so she snatched up a kitten and carried it into the crate, so I put the others back immediately. (I always feel guilty when mamas take a kitten away from me.)
“I hope you learned your lesson, lady.”
“You needs to keep your hands to yourself.”
The kittens were none the worse for wear.
“Don’t forget about me, Mama!”
I swear I could just sit and watch them all day long.
Please note the sweet smile on her face.

Newt’s like “Canasta’s right… this IS more comfortable!”

Aww Newtie the cutie!!
And look at those lil’ babies!!! Some similar faces but I hope the body markings will allow for the easier identification.
Look at those sweet little faces… A great set of names, Robyn!
Fizzbin! I *love* it! Even better than Fan Tan, which I had considered submitting.
Here’s a link to the original reference (I hope it’s okay to post it):

Those are all excellent names for excellent kittens. I hardly ever comment here, but I read this blog every day without fail. I came in during the Ryder’s Fleet days but have caught up quite a bit since then.
Thank you for all you do for the kitties—and the kitty-lovin’ peeps.
Thank you, Ricky & Bibi’s Mom, for posting that! I’m a long-time Trek fan (I still remember watching some of the show’s first run), but I didn’t know about that episode until I read Blish’s novelization of episodes.
Robyn, as could be seen, Kirk was making up the game as he went. But Fizzbin is still a great name for a kitten!!
OMG they are so cute!!
Oh Newt….
Newt: LOL
Sooo cute. I can only imagine the guilt of annoying a momma and giving her even MORE work by having to put her kids BACK where she already had them!
Adorbs! I was hoping for a Solitaire but those names are great too. Can’t wait to see them grow into them.
Of COURSE #1 had to be named Uno! 😀
I’ve never heard of Slapjack or Fizzbin, but these are great names!
Oh, Newtles! My Aggie used to prop herself up in a corner to survey the room. She also used to lie on her back in the rocking chair, looking at the world upside down!
Those kittens are almost as cute as Newt! 😉
You said, “I swear I could just sit and watch them all day long.” — to which I add, and we would all be happy to join you, I’m quite sure! There’s something extra, EXTRA cute about this litter. And I’m pretty sure Canasta knows that she’s done a truly outstanding job!
I’m expecting Whist to be wistful! Or not, just to spite us!
What adorable kittens, and how sweet of Canasta to make sure they each have a slightly different “hairline” so they’re easy to tell apart!
On an entirely different note, I was reading back a bit, and 2 years ago you printed a long letter from me about Tiny & Bailey, so I thought I’d bring you up to date. Tiny (Goober) is just over 10 lbs and Bailey (Bubba) is almost 14.5. I still have to stand by while Tiny eats on the counter to make sure Bailey doesn’t jump up and snarf all the food. (Also if I leave, Tiny will get distracted from eating and jump off the counter to wander around.) They both sleep with me. Tiny gets between the sheets, and Baily just goes under the top quilt. Bailey likes to eat unprotected baked goods (notably cheesecake and brownies), and I recently caught Tiny going after the green beans on my dinner plate when I made the mistake of leaving the room for a moment. So they’re both typically weird cats and I love them dearly.
Canasta is such a good Momma!! These bebes are so cute!! They are nice and plump and already have kittentude…LOL. We will have so much fun watching them grow up and toddle, and play, and be cute kittens. I would sit and watch them all day too!!
All so so adorable! Thank you for Fizzbin!! I did suggest it on FB, but possibly others did as well. If so, we’re all geniuses!
