5 kittens (look to be black and white – one might be brown tabby and white) born between midnight and 5 am while I was sound asleep.
They rarely take me THIS much by surprise, but I was sure we weren’t going to have kittens until at LEAST the end of the week. What do I know? (Not much, obviously.) Mother and kittens are doing well and I’m giving her a few hours before I pull out the kittens to change the bedding and look them over.

Okay, so is anyone else having this issue? It’s not happening to me, but Starr reported that occasionally (not every day, and not every video) the video that is embedded doesn’t match the description below it. The link underneath the embedding goes to the correct video. Here are a couple of screencaps (thanks, Starr!) of what’s happening:
The embedded video is of Crumpet purring, but the description below is of the Ducklings being wild things. Again, if you click on the “YouTube link” link, it takes you to the right video but the embedded video is the wrong one.
Another one:
The embedded video is the “who’s da BAYbee?” video, the description is of Emmy’s alien belly.
Starr said a refresh will fix it – the correct embedded video will show up after hitting “refresh” – but I’d really love to figure out what’s causing it.
I thought perhaps the issue was with how I was embedding the videos, so I started grabbing the direct embedding code from YouTube, but it happened again.
Anyone else having this issue? Or anyone with some WordPress or web skills have any ideas what’s going on? I thought it might be a caching issue on my part, and then I thought it might be a caching issue on Starr’s part, but the code is completely different and this shouldn’t be happening – but, thoughts? Anyone? (Starr, please correct me if I got any of this wrong!)

Friday morning, I moved the Ducklings to the foster room. When introducing kittens or cats to the foster room, I always put them in (or near) the litter boxes first so that they’ll know where the litter boxes are, and then can explore outward from there. The Ducklings came out of the litter boxes and hid behind a carrier. Since I didn’t want them to be uncomfortable, I removed the carrier and put a bed in there, then left them alone for a while.
Every time I walked in to check on them, they were like “This is so comfy, lady. Thanks!”
I started taking them out of the closet and putting them in front of the food and water (so they’d know where THAT was located) and the first several times I did it, they skulked right back into the closet. Each time they returned to the closet, though, it was a bit slower and with more looking around as they went.
Finally, they stayed out.
Louie and Huey checking out the mirrors.
Louie taking a nap on the couch.
Dewey all “What we doin’ now, lady?”
Huey pushed Mister Frog off the pink Adirondack and declared that it was his.
For the rest of Friday and most of Saturday, they’d hide under the bed if they heard a strange noise, like the door to the room opening. But then they’d come right back out.
Louie found this seat QUITE comfy, thank you.
I finally got around to giving them the toys they got from Olivia and from (with the help of Cindy) Cinnaspin and Linzer (thank you Olivia and Cindy/Cinnaspin/Linzer!), and Louie was all “These toys are awesome!”
Dewey on the couch, keeping an eye on me.
By last evening, they were starting to meet me at the door when I walked in (though they were still sometimes hiding under the bed, too.) They’ve made great strides in just a few days, which is lovely to see.

Crumpet is all “My eyes are up HERE, lady.”
I’m always happy to see a mama sleep in a comfy bed I’ve provided for her (since they all usually appear to prefer the hard, cold floor.)
No news is no news on mama Crumpet. She’s getting bigger – I don’t think her milk is in, but also I haven’t gotten a lot of up-close views of the belly since she does spend a lot of time pacing back and forth. She has spent time in the red crate digging around and hanging out (but don’t get excited, she’s been doing that since I got her). She likes to sit on the cat tree and look out the window while dozing.
My prediction right now is that she’ll either have the kittens today or she won’t (but I’m leaning toward “won’t.) I don’t THINK we’ve got as long as Valentine’s Day (which is a week from Wednesday), but I’ve certainly been wrong before.

That is the face of a Newt who’s about to get his ears cleaned, and he thinks there’d better be some treats at the end of it all.

Posted on social media (Facebook/Twitter/Instagram/Tumblr) yesterday.
I just need to do one more quick mop of the foster room and then the Ducklings are movin’ on up (or over)! I bet they’ll love having room to race around! (Louie (left) and Huey)
Crumpet is a kneady girl. (I love that random brown tabby patch on her back left leg.)
It’s been about 3 hours since I moved the Ducklings (left to right: Huey, Dewy & (back) Louie) to the foster room. They’re a little nervous, so they’re staying in the closet (not really a closet – kind of a walk-in closet where the litter boxes are.) I bring them out into the room each time I go in, and they return to the closet (I’ve done it 4 or 5 times), but I notice that every time they return to the closet, they do it more slowly and look around while they’re going. More updates as the day goes (I suspect by the end of the day they’ll be out in the room playing.)
“Oooh, toys!” They sniffed everything and decided they’d stay out for a while this time! Louie checks out the track toy, Dewey checks out Mister Frog, and Huey is behind the pink Adirondack deciding on his next move.
And… they’re out! If the door opening (as I walk into the room) startles them, they’ll either run behind something or run under the little bed, but then they come right back out. They’ve been having a blast the last few hours!
Good night innernets. (Crumpet)
Crumpet is pretty sure it’s time for breakfast, and she reckons I better hop to it.
“Well HELLO, good-looking!” (Dewey)

Yesterday I moved the Ducklings from the bathroom to the foster room. It took them about 6 hours before they were comfortable running around and playing the foster room – I made videos along the way!

This is honestly the longest amount of time I’ve seen Crumpet lying down when I’m in the room with her. Usually she paces back and forth, purring and rubbing. (I was watching the belly for some movement, but didn’t see any!)
Grumpy little faces. (Dewey (top) and Huey. Louie was in the litter box.)

I’m in the foster room, hanging out with the Ducklings while they check out their toys (please admire Huey’s wiggly-butt windup at the beginning!)
Crumpet’s just hanging out, gestatin’, and doing a little kneading.

Crumpet has a purrrrrr.
If they take after their mama, Crumpet’s kittens are going to have some FABULOUS whiskers and beautiful eyes.
