Warning: today’s post is a sad one; if you can’t handle that today, I entirely understand and we’ll get back to business as usual tomorrow. ❤️
I’m so very sorry to tell you that Riker, our little black and white tuxie with the white “diamond” on his forehead, has passed away. Basically, he was fine and bright-eyed, and then he very suddenly went downhill (lethargic, congestion, open-mouthed breathing). I don’t know whether it was upper respiratory or fading kitten syndrome or something else entirely, but I treated it as fading kitten (I recommend the Parker Protocol if you’re dealing with a fading kitten). Just as I thought he was stabilizing, he passed away.
I am keeping a very close eye on Uhura and the kittens, and they are thriving.
I had a few pictures in the queue that include Riker, so I’m sharing them here in today’s post. He was just the sweetest, calmest little guy, and I can’t believe he’s so suddenly gone.

Starling and Plover/Tater were adopted yesterday and have moved home to Nashville, Tennessee. Here’s a selection of the pictures I took of them from the time we got them, when they were just hours old, to yesterday morning. We are so thrilled that all the Nestlings are now adopted and in absolutely wonderful homes.
You can follow Starling (now Elaine) and Plover/Tater (now Raven) on Instagram here and on Facebook here.
I am so very sorry to tell you that we have lost sweet Riker. 💔
He went downhill unexpectedly, and despite doing everything possible, he still passed away.
Uhura and her remaining kittens are all perfectly fine, but rest assured that I am keeping a very close eye on them.
