Family portrait. Don’t feel bad for Caroline – she can and does get away from those kittens whenever she wants. The kittens are starting to eat on their own, but still nurse ’cause that’s what kittens do. It’s my experience that kittens will nurse forever if allowed – and the majority of the moms I’ve fostered will allow it far past the point you’d expect. (The kittens are now 6 1/2 weeks old.)

Seven weeks old and still nursing. Tsk tsk tsk. (Most of them are eating canned food and a little kibble now. They were sound asleep and she WOKE them and encouraged them to nurse.
