Roux and Andouille take a field trip.
Over the weekend, I decided it was time for a couple of the kittens to take a field trip. Andouille and Roux were closest to the door when I walked into the foster room, so they’re the ones who went. (Please do not try to duplicate my highly scientific method.)
The only permanent resident in the room was Dewey, atop the cat tree, who didn’t move a whisker when I walked in with the kittens.
This was Roux’s third field trip, and so she went insta-floof as soon as I put her down – I guess it’s her go-to response to being in that room.
She walked around the room sniffing every inch of the floor.
“You look nearly as floofy as me!” said Andouille.

And then Dewey woke up.
Andouille was the first one to see him.
Dewey flopped to the floor and gave Andouille the blinkety-blink Eyes of Lurve.
Andouille wasn’t feelin’ it.
“LADY THIS APPEARS TO KEEP HAPPENING,” said Roux.
So I ushered Dewey out the door and let the kittens stay for a while longer.
Andouille sniffed every inch of the floor where Dewey had been.
Roux kept her floof suit on, because you just never know when you’re going to need it.

Then I scooped them up and took them back to their room. It took a minute or two for Roux to take off her floof suit.
“Uh oh,” said Beignet. “Why’s she wearing THAT?”
I find that the more often Roux goes on the field trips, the faster she takes off her floof suit when she gets back to the foster room. I’m planning to take all four of the kittens on a field trip soon, and will leave them there for an hour or so. Not only will that give them some time to really explore, but Nola will get a break – and that’s always a good thing!

Videos! In the first, Andouille and Roux are little goofballs – leaping, hopping, skitterbugging at Mama. So much energy!
And in the second, Praline and Beignet are working together to free all the toys from the puzzle box, while Roux stomps around with a toy made of dog fur. That girl cracks me up!
