I am home again! This is what I did during the 2 1/2 weeks while I was gone:
Drove from Alabama to Pennsylvania. This took two days because the day before I was planning to leave, I found out that an appointment I’d scheduled months ago was not the day before I planned to leave, but rather the actual day that I’d planned to leave. So I left late in the morning, and after driving 9ish hours, I stopped in Charleston, West Virginia to spend the night. The next day I reached my destination (I cannot type those words without hearing Siri saying “You have reached your destination” in my head) late morning, I think? Hey, it’s been almost three weeks, I can’t remember that far back.
I was going to Pennsylvania because Nance’s oldest son was getting married, and I was invited! I was supposedly going a few days early to “help”, but my “help” mostly consisted of sitting and blabbing with whoever was nearby, and taking pictures of her pets. I also stood around a lot and looked thoughtful while other people lifted and moved things.
Top: Waldo and Julie.
Bottom: Felina and Peace.
The day of the wedding, the weather cooperated by being sunny and warm, but perhaps was a bit TOO sunny and warm. The wedding was outside and the bride and groom were (mostly) in the shade, but the rest of us were in the very hot sun. Due to a pre-wedding shot of vodka and the fact that I very rarely drink at all and am a lightweight when it comes to alcohol (hmmm… the last time I had alcohol was also at Nance’s house. Nance = bad influence.) and the direct sunlight beating down on me, I thought my delicate flower of a self was going to pass out during the ceremony, but I persevered. The wedding was lovely, the bride was beautiful, the groom was handsome. After we ate, we old folks escaped to the air conditioned inside of the house, while the bride and groom partied with their friends for a few hours before leaving for their honeymoon.
After the wedding ceremony: freckly, flushed, and the Crazy Eyes. That’s me!
After a few more days of imposing on Nance and Rick, I headed toward Massachusetts! I picked up my daughter – Danielle, who some of you remember as the Spud – and headed for Maine to my parents’ house.
I spent time with my family, ate my weight in lobster and other seafood, and then I got to meet Connie and her litter of super-adorable tuxies!
There was a lot of shopping involved in my visit to Maine, as usual – I was there for less than a week, so I had to cram a lot of shopping in a short amount of time!
I left Maine, drove 14 hours, and stopped for the night at Nance’s house. They fed me, let me spend the night, and the next morning I left bright and early for home.
I drove for 9 or 10 hours, realized that I was NOT going to make it home on Thursday, and stopped for the night in Bowling Green, KY – about 3 hours from home. I got up early the next morning, and made it home by 8.
I spent the weekend trying to whip the house back into shape (which is a neverending task, really), got some love from the cats (Dennis acted like he had NO IDEA who I was at first, but relaxed after about 10 minutes. Silly boy.), and just generally puttered around.
So, that’s what I’ve been up to! I took a lot of pictures while I was in Pennsylvania and Maine, and won’t share the majority of them. Most of the pictures I took include family members, and while YOU guys are okay and wouldn’t do something weird or obnoxious with pictures of adorable kids, this is a public site and THAT guy over there has shifty eyes and I don’t really trust him, y’know?

Foster news.
In case you missed the announcement on Facebook (and I’ll fix it over in the sidebar at some point today), Belushi was returned last week.
Turns out that a high-energy kitten apparently wasn’t what the adopters were looking for. I’ve decided to see this as a good thing – at least they returned him relatively soon rather than waiting for 6 months before returning him. I saw him on Saturday, and he was willing to cuddle, then needed to run around and sharpen his claws and just, y’know. Be an energetic kitten!
I saw him on Saturday because I took River back to Petsmart.
She wasn’t pleased about it, as you can imagine. But she had a good three week vacation, and it was time for her to go back.
And… that is the state of things at Crooked Acres right now!
