Puffdate! Flynndate! Fluffdate? Flookdate?
Flynn had his yearly check up and shots today. He is healthy and hopefully done growing! That boy is getting too heavy! His legs and body are just so stinking long! He’s up to 12.5 lbs.
Puff came with us to the vet just so they could meet him and get his paperwork on file. They ended up weighing him for me. He is up to 5.5 lbs. Please don’t kill me but I have officially changed his name to Hook. I still call him Puff and Hufflepuff some but I can’t help but think of Captain Hook with his mustache when he is eyeing Flynn for an attack just like Captain Hook is always thinking of ways to attack Peter Pan. Plus, I really love Once Upon A Time and Hook is one of my favorites! He will always be Puff, a member of the Dragon clan, so call him that if you want.
They brought Flynn back in the exam room from where they took him to draw his blood and he immediately climbed back in his carrier and curled in a ball. He was not a happy camper. Puff/Hook decided he needed to comfort his buddy and crawled in there with him. They normally have their own carrier but I couldn’t stand to break them up for the short ride home after this. I took this picture because it was too cute!
Sleepy boys!
Puff/Hook decided to practice his circus tricks the other night. He has a great balance act! He is on top of a small scratching post in the bedroom.
He is one goofy little boy! He loves his big brother Flynn and follows him wherever he goes! Flynn looks out for him and I really believe he tries to keep him out of trouble. I couldn’t have asked for a smoother transition and adjustment time!
Oh, I just LOVE seeing that boy so happy, and BFFs with his big brother!!!

So today we went out and bought our own Da Bird. One cat thinks it’s the best toy ever. The other cat is hiding inside the room mate’s box spring. sigh. He’s a sweet cat, but I begin to worry he might not be the brightest.
I do not know why it is, but the idea of a cat being scared of Da Bird is cracking me UP!

Awww I love the Joe picture…how many times a day do you just have to squeeze him?
73! Luckily, Joe Bob is a sweet, sweet, SWEET boy and he’ll pretty much let you do anything to him, and he’ll purr while you’re doing it. Did I mention he’s a sweet boy? SO. SWEET.

So fitting I got the Moonman & Moondance banner with the shoutout to a peacefully sleeping JoeBob today!!!
For those of you who don’t know, Joe Bob was originally named Moonman, and he was our foster way back in early 2007 along with his sister Moondance. (I still haven’t gotten all the foster stories copied over here, including theirs, but here’s the link to their set of pictures at Flickr.) They were just with us for a little while for a break from the cage at Petsmart. They went back after a while, and were each eventually adopted separately. Joe Bob was returned to the shelter after a little while (I don’t know the reason). In January of 2008, after Spot died, we decided to adopt Joe Bob, and Fred made a special trip to the shelter to adopt him.

You know what would be cool on your blog, if you had a ‘jump to the comments’ at the top of the post for those of us stopping back by later in the day just to read the comments after stopping by in the AM
I’m trying to figure out how to add that link to the status bar under the date. But until I get that figured out, there’s a bubble that shows on the right side of the screen with the number of comments in it, here:
It’ll only show if you’re on the main Love & Hisses page – if you go to the direct link for the post, it disappears because the comments are open. So if you don’t see it, click on the header (which doubles as a “home” link), and it should show up.

I absolutely love Arya’s mottled coloring in the last kitten picture. Is she a calico? I can never keep all the coat types straight.
I’m calling her a calico – she does have some tabby stripes in certain spots (she has a tabby “elbow patch” on one side that is kill-me-dead adorable), but I’m pretty sure she’s still considered a calico. I’m with you, though – it’s hard to keep them all straight!

Great news about Scorch/Scotch. I don’t know why people think he’s a Scotch, is it his coat? I don’t look at his coloring and think Scotch, I just think Yum.
I think of Scotch as in Butterscotch rather than Scotch the alcohol. I’m not sure I could tell you what color scotch (the alcohol) is if my life depended on it!

Clearly you have nothing better to do than make random banners….
I do get a huge kick looking at the new banners. After seeing the latest “Yawners” I’m seeing a whole new theme, not necessarily tied to any one particular batch of kittens. I can see the best of “Stranger Danger Floof Suits”, “Bug Eyed Kittens in the middle of the circular ball racer”, “Bottle babies” “Alien kittens (I’m thinking Tony RH standing with that huge belly)” “Basket kittens”, you get the idea.
Seriously, I am amazed at the time and effort you put into this website.
I try to get at least a couple of banners done each week – I’m more successful some weeks than others, of course. Right now my focus is on making sure that each of the litters I’ve fostered have at least one banner, and then at least one of the permanent residents (or one for each permanent resident!) and then once I get that done, I’ll branch out. I love all the ideas you mentioned, though, especially the Alien Kittens!
It probably takes me longer than it should to get each banner done because I get so caught up in looking at the pictures and remember alllll those kittens. 🙂

Somebody needs to write an Ode to Corbie’s Belleh. Will he let you rub his tummy, or is he an “admire, but don’t touch” kinda cat?
He’ll allow it if you approach slowly and aren’t too vigorous, but he really prefers that you scratch him around the face and shoulders.

So I have a story/question for everyone. Two years ago I had the help of some TNR folks in my Brooklyn neighborhood in trapping what we thought at the time was a pregnant momma cat who was living right near our apartment building and would walk by our windows, driving our cats nuts. Long story short: She was not pregnant (we spayed and released her), but nursing five kittens, two of whom we trapped (we couldn’t get the others, then there was a hurricane… So far as I know, one of the remaining three survived). My husband and I fostered the two we had trapped (Robyn, you helped me with that — thanks!) and got them adopted a couple of months later. I continued to feed Momma and Popeye (the remaining kitten, who had a bad eye), hoping eventually to TNR the latter, but both disappeared in early December 2011. I feared the worst for them.
Until last night, that is. We were just about to eat dinner when I heard plaintive meowing just outside the apartment (our door opens directly onto the sidewalk). I opened the door, and there is a small black cat with white hairs on its chest and a tipped ear. It (she?) looked and sounded exactly like Momma. A neighbor was out there and we both watched her as she continued to stare at me and meow. I went and got a can of food and left it for her. I could hear after a few minutes that a passing dog barked at her, so when I went out again she had gone. I picked up the remaining food and wandered near to where my former Momma used to hang out, and there she was. She meowed at me again and was a lot less wary of me without my neighbor around.
So — what do you all think? It is possible that this is Momma? Or just a random black cat that I’d like to think is Momma? I’m going to try to continue to feed it (her? I think it’s female — it was pretty dark out) regardless, but it’s a thrill to think it may be her.
It certainly sounds like she’s your missing Momma! Don’t you wish she could talk and tell you where she’s been?!

Speaking of hijinks and water – have you seen this?
YES, and it’s so adorable! It reminds me of this video of Finnegan and Maggie from a couple of years ago:

Have you seen the Engineer’s Guide guys’ new video, Kitty Love song? Hilarious!

Arya and Brandon, biting each other.
And Arya hugging Brandon (while he bites her neck.)
I was organizing the bookcase in Fred’s room, and the kittens came in to see what I was doing. So I stuck ’em on the bookcase and snapped a few pictures! Hodor’s all “…Hodor?”
More Arya and Brandon in the sun.
Arya and Brandon, tussling in the sun, while Hodor’s all “Hodor….”
That Brandon sure is a pretty boy, isn’t he?
Jon Snow, checking out the bookcase.
“How do I get down from here?”
Arya, showing off her spay scar.
Norbie, playing with the Tickle Gherkin.
Brandon’s turn on the bookcase!
::thlurp!:: See her orange tabby elbow patch? Isn’t it adorable?
