Uh oh. Look at who’s making eyes at Rupert (who’s out there by the tree). If I’d had time, I would have photoshopped little cartoon hearts over her head. She’s thinking “Oh, he is FIIIIIIIINE!” I tried to tell her she’s barking (trilling) up the wrong tree, but she doesn’t care. The hormones want what they want.
In other words, Brandywine’s going into heat. I guess I made that spay appointment in the nick of time! Sunday night we were bemused at how SUPER-friendly she suddenly was, and then she started trilling at us, and we were like “Oh, right. FIGURES.” At least she hasn’t gotten really aggressive about it yet – she’s just really friendly and doing some occasional trilling. No presenting and no making the move on Old Man Spanky the way Kara did (Kara would vehemently deny this, but it’s truuuuue.)
I’m leaving here soon to drop her (and Kennebec, Agata, and Fianna) off at North Alabama Spay Neuter Clinic. It’s certainly going to be quiet around here today and tonight!
I tried to get some video of her trilling, but ended up just getting video of her rolling around. As a bonus, in the second part you can see Stompers stomping around in the background. Please ignore the state of that rug; I hadn’ t vacuumed yet.
So last weekend, we did something fun and exciting! We moved the antique bed that’s been living in the guest bedroom into the garage, and put a platform bed in its place. I liked the antique bed well enough – it’s the bed that was in Fred’s bedroom when he was a kid, actually, and everyone who sleeps in it talks about how comfortable it was – but it had a tall headboard, which caused some really jerky cats (one or possibly more of the permanent residents) to spray it. I was starting to get really worried that they were going to damage it, so I bought a platform frame off of Overstock.com.
First, we leaned the mattress and plywood (that goes under the box spring) against the wall so we could take the frame apart and cart it out to the garage.
Tommy thought that atop the mattress was a fine place to hang out.
We carted the antique bed frame out to the garage, and then carried the box spring out to the garage and sealed it in plastic. Then Fred took the new frame out of the box and started putting it together.
Brandywine thought she’d be helpful.
Sugarbutt took a turn atop the mattress.
The finished bed. The next day I turned it so that the long side was against the wall. It actually looks kind of cozy in there now. And the room looks bigger, so that’s a bonus.
Brandywine had a little time with the kits…
…and decided she’d much rather hang out downstairs with us, thanks.
Stompers likes to snuggle with Fianna.
“Go ‘way! Tryin’ to sleep here!”
Stompers was in the condo, trying to nap. Kennebec and Agata were making that difficult.
“I’ve got it!”
“No, I‘ve got it!”
“They’re so rude. Can’t a girl get some decent rest around here?”
Stompers grabs for Kennebec, but Kennebec is just too fast.
Elwood, plotting evilly (and blurry Corbie in front of him).
