It’s been about two weeks since Rumba and Samba went to the pet store (and they were recently adopted – yay!), which I think is the longest time we’ve gone without fosters.
Yesterday I got a call from the shelter manager asking if I wanted some 6 1/2-week old kittens. Did I? You bet I did!
Last night I picked them up and brought them home, and I’m pleased to announce that not only are they THE CUTEST THINGS EVER, they’re also friendly! Do you know how long it’s been since we got fosters that were friendly right off the bat? I can’t tell you, ’cause I have no idea. A LONG time, is what I’m saying.
There are seven of them, they are as of yet unnamed (I’m thinking about going with old-fashioned names. I’ve about decided to name the brown tabby Ezra, if that hasn’t been used by the shelter for a cat in the past.), and I honestly don’t know how on earth I’m supposed to NOT squeeze the stuffing out of them.
Meet them:
Number One, a dilute calico, and a girl. She’s the runt of the litter – she’s literally half the size of her brothers and sister, weighing in at a tiny 8.5 ounces. Her size doesn’t stop her, though – she’s got lungpower, and she knows how to use it. Her preferred place to be is perched atop my leg when I’m sitting on the floor.
Number Two, a buff tabby, and a boy. There are two buff tabby boys in this litter, and I have yet to figure out how I’m going to tell them apart, they look exactly the same to me. I’ll get it figured out, I’m sure. He’s VERY protective of his food and doesn’t like to share.
Number Three, a brown tabby, and a boy. Though you can’t see it in this picture, he’s got the neatest fur – the fur on his back almost looks frosted. He’s a solemn little thing who sits and watches his siblings run around (though he’s more than willing to jump in and kick a little tail if need be!). (I’m thinking of naming this one Ezra, but don’t hold me to it!)
Number Four, the other buff tabby, and a boy. He loves – LOVES! – a good back scratch. I was holding him and scratching his back, and he threw himself backward so he was laying on his back across my hands, and purred and purred.
Number Five, a red tabby, and a boy. He’s a feisty little thing and always ready to pick a fight.
Number Six, a gray tabby, and the other girl. She loves to snuggle – in fact, she climbs into my lap first thing – and if there’s a camera strap to chew on, she’s that much happier.
Number Seven, a black tabby, and a boy. He’s the adventurous one – the first to start climbing up the cat tree (though he’s still a little confused on how to get to the second level of the cat tree) and I expect he’s going to be the wild child.
The runt’s face is KILLING me. She chewed on this piece of Science Diet Kitten food for the longest time before I realized she was chewing on the same piece of food all that time. It’s too big for her apparently (did I mention she’s a tiny little thing?), so I switched them over to BabyCat, and that worked out just fine for her.
Why not just climb into the bowl to eat, right?
If that’s not a baleful glare, I don’t know what is.
