Last night this finally happened:
This leaves King Nubbs and Shelton – and now Koko – waiting at Petsmart for their people to show up.
Koko reacted more calmly to being at Petsmart than I expected. She spent a while curled up in her bed, watching the people, did a little hiding in the litter box, and then came back out just as I was leaving. She didn’t get adopted last night, but I’m hoping this is the weekend she AND Shelton and Nubbs go home. Fingers crossed!

By the way, I saw this…super pricey, but I know that Fred is mega handy!!
Oooh, I love that!

why do you have to redesign the site?
I’m currently using the theme Weaver II. The designers have created a newer theme – Weaver Extreme – and are planning end-of-life for Weaver II. They’ll still make sure it’s compatible with newer versions of WordPress for some time to come, but at some point I imagine they’ll stop doing that, and rather than being taken by surprise, I’m trying to be ahead of the curve, and am planning a switch to Weaver Extreme. And by “planning”, I mean “I’ve been thinking that I need to get this done since last Fall some time,” so we’ll see. I suspect it’ll just take a weekend of tinkering with the site to get it to look the way I want.
And also, that sidebar is so cluttered that it’s driving me nuts, so I want to rearrange it. I may go to a two-sidebar system to make it easier… or I may not. I’ll see once I actually get going on it.

Just in case anyone missed it, there was an update on Bill:
Hey all! Today marks the 5th week since his surgery…. we did have our checkup on Wednesday this week and they say it’s looking like it’s healing well! He is still peeing good – I actually saw him pee right before we put him in the carrier to go to the vet. YAY! He’s still healing though and is quiet a lot of the time but has moments of playing that we haven’t seen in a while so we think that he is feeling better than he has! Our big fun is that we really need to get more liquids in him so we are trying to get him into wet foods – he is NOT a fan of canned cat food. Right now we are getting him going with the meat baby foods. He’s liking turkey a good bit. We’ve finished off 2 jars in the last week.
Ann, Bill, Red & Georgie
Koko said she’ll take any of that baby food Bill doesn’t want!

Quick question for the commenters – my six month old kittens love Da Bird. But we go through the string faster than the feathers. Anyone know of a better toy or a better string to replace it with?
Laura said: Try the PURRfect Cat Toys Pouncer Toy. The โstringโ is leather and none of my boys has chewed through it yet. Amazon links here and here.
Thanks, Laura!

I was waiting for 6am and your post because they always make me smile! And today I need a smile because I’m still kinda freaked out! All good though, just my cat Glitter saved our lives and our neighbors lives. Like she does.
(Wrote about our big scary night if anyone’s interested)
I went and read it again – that is so scary, I’m glad Glitter was on the case and that y’all are okay!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I will be sorry to see KoKo go but have very much enjoyed her ‘journey’. I have only been around one calico in my life. But having seen how your calicos act, I wonder if a strong personality and possessiveness are common traits for them? I will miss KoKo and her gorgeous self.
Calicos and torties do tend to have what they call “tortie-tude” – and this article says it’s not all in our heads! I do have to say that in my experience torties and calicos can be hissy toward other cats, but are total people-lovers. That’s not always true, of course.
I can’t be the only one singing “whiskers in the sun” to the tune of The Violent Femmes’ “Blister in the Sun,” right?
I’ve been singing a different song. We had joy, we had fun, we had whiskers in the sun.
(What a DEPRESSING song. I still love it. I love cheesy sad songs. Wildfire, anyone?)
Ooh, ooh! WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE CHEESY SONG (sad or otherwise)?? Tell me, I want to know! (Obviously cheese is in the mind of the beholder, so no one’s allowed to get offended. I WON’T ALLOW IT. ๐ )
The last of the Koko pictures I took before she went off to Petsmart.
Can you see her little face peeking out the “window” of the wall condo?
Looks like she caught a case of The Loons.
Sometimes a girl needs a little alone time.
“What? I fit!” Newt adores that scratcher.
Archie loves to roll around on the driveway in the sun.
YAY Levine!!!! I hope you have a very long life being spoiled and loved!!!
Dear Bill, so glad to hear you are doing better. Tell your mommy that Auntie G suggests that she buy one of these https://www.etsy.com/listing/269260871/cat-fountain-pet-fountain-indoor?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=handmade&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=cat water fountain, pet fountain&ref=sc_gallery_2&plkey=7318e42bc97a7bfa131afdd202eb0f2cd5f59115:269260871
This maker makes many colors and styles, and whilst it may be a bit pricey, kitties love them and drink lots and lots of water….more so from the bowl. (I have this and a ceramic bowl. 99% of the time, they drink from the fountain…and drink more.) I love these because they are 1) pretty 2) don’t mildew like the plastic ones do 3) W-A-Y easier to clean than the other ones. It comes with a pre-filter but if you ever need a new one you can get that here:
https://www.etsy.com/listing/206281346/cat-fountain-foam-pre-filter?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=cat fountain filter&ref=sr_gallery_7
I hope she gets it for you and that you drink plenty of water to stay nice and healthy. Your fan club worries about you!!!
Yes, Newt – you fit perfectly!
I love Archie’s soft colors! Pretty boy!
Love and Affection by Nelson…there’s some cheese for you.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x1W6-ErrHls – I had to look it up! ๐
I don’t know if it is “cheesy”…but I love (from 1978) Little River Band – Lady
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BrnZv7fHGSE
Seasons in the Sun makes me cry EVERY SINGLE TIME I HEAR IT!!
But I think probably my favorite cheesy (maybe more sappy?) song is Dan Fogelberg’s “Same Old Lang Syne” (which ALSO makes me cry EVERY SINGLE TIME I HEAR IT!)
Rounding out the trifecta is “Two Outta Three Ain’t Bad” by Meatloaf. But at least I have a really specific memory tied to that which makes me mist up.
I love that Meatloaf song!!!
Hooray for Levine and his new folks! And may this weekend be an adoptionapalooza (worldwide, of course).
I’m going to have to don my thinking cap on the cheesy-song front, but the first one that comes to mind is Boy Meets Girls’ “Waiting for a Star to Fall.” Try it; you’ll not just like but love it! And the video takes fromage to a whole new level. But if anyone dares call Seals and Crofts’ “Diamond Girl” cheesy, we might have to have words!
The burning (perhaps “pungent” would be more appropriate) question, though, is how many L&H-ers now have “Brandy (You’re a Fine Girl” bouncing involuntarily around their brains.
Waiting for a Star to Fall: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RhxF9Qg5mOU
Diamond Girl: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RC-oP84mRME
Don’t mock me. Hey, if I am gonna go check out these songs, I might as well make it easy for the rest of you. LOL
LOL! I cannot even tell you how many times throughout my life that song has been sung to me…like I’ve never heard it! That is where my parents got my name, so perhaps I’m cursed to hear it every few weeks or so. My parents are big music dorks and my brother Justin is named after Justin Hayward of the Moody Blues, however nobody stalks him to sing “Night in White Satin”!
Brandy, I’d bet you’ve perfected a very, very pained smile for those occasions.
I was so excited by the cheese factor (Foreigner’s “I Want to Know What Love Is,” anyone? How about the glorious “If I Had Words”? ) that I failed to celebrate Bill’s improving health and Glitter’s life saving. And isn’t heroic Glitter a Winnie’s Wish alumna to boot?
Glitter is indeed a Winnie’s Wisher and a life saver!
So glad about Bill too!!
And now I have a bunch of competing songs vying to be the one stuck in my head… So let me toss one out there that I’m not exactly sure of the title too… It’s Meatloaf, “I said I’d love you forever and now I’m praying for the end of time” Might be called something by the dashboard lights??
Paradise by the Dashboard Light! Love that song.
I LOVE “Waiting for a Star to Fall”! One of my favorites… reminds me of my childhood.
“Brandy” is indeed bouncing through my head. It plays occasionally on the PA at work. I loved that song, even as I thought it was one of the stupidest things I’d ever heard. Another cheesy song that gets more play is Dusty Springfield’s “Wishin’ and Hopin'”, great melody, lousy sentimentality. I named a cat I had in high school Diamond after the Seals’ and Crofts’ song, since he had a diamond-shaped patch of white fur on his back (he was a tuxie, otherwise). I gotta go to work, else I’d post links to these songs.
Yay, Levine!! About time, too!!
That just leaves the black kitties… and that always makes me a little sad. ๐
I know, me too – and it kills me, because the black cats are without exception total sweethearts and the most awesome of cats!
Along the same era of Wildfire and Terry Jacks… Run, Joey, Run.. now there’s some cheese.. “Daddy please don’t it wasn’t his fault – he means so much to meeeeeeeeeee…….” hehe – I heard all those songs riding around in the back of my sister’s car as she played taxi for her younger siblings.
Run Joey Run https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cUVZsu36SW4
One Tin Soldier from the legend of Billy Jack https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yh-JoW_8qw0
and The Night Chicago Died https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p-L0NpaErkk
A variety of cheese from the early 70s… Enjoy!
Good luck, Koko!
I loved those songs when I was a kid!!!
Hooray for Levine and fingers crossed for KoKo, King Nubbs and Shelton.
My vote for cheesiest song is “Honey” by Bobby Goldsboro. I remember me and my other 9 year old friends listening to this song when it came out (yes, I am that old) and crying and crying and ugly crying as we listened to this drek over and over. Lord love a duck, it was (and still is) so bad. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HW1GpxB0LH8
So happy for Levine, and hoping Nubbs and Shelton get adopted this weekend! I will miss Koko, but I know that beautiful girl will be in her wonderful forever home soon!
Yeah, Seasons in the Sun does it for me…as does Honey…and here is a quirky one: American City Suite by Cashman & West… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-B6NZ8a4_Yk It’s a long one at 7 minutes: and the weepy part comes about 4 minutes in. Perhaps it’s just because I was young and lived in NYC in the late 70s and loved it … but the song gets me every time. The radio version often went straight to the sad part: “They tell me that a friend is dying…Oh, New York City, can you tell me it’s not true…”
OMG, Wildfire! I have that album. That song made me weep. I have not listened to it in forever because, vinyl. But I got one of those ‘record your vinyl and cassettes to CDs’ turntable/radio thingys and need to pop that album on and give it a listen. Harry Chapin’s ‘Taxi’ gets me also. I don’t know that it is cheesy but more like ‘life can suck but we move on’ kinda songs.
I love Wildfire!!! Any song that features a woman who loves her horse enough to chase it into a blizzard and “disappear” ( I refuse to say they died!!!) had to grab the heart of any pre-teen, horse-loving girl who heard it, like it did me. ๐
For 70s cheese you can dance to – “MacArthur Park” by Donna Summer! 80s cheese – “Total Eclipse of the Heart”! ๐
I always thought of the Violent Femmes song, but now…thanks Robyn.
The fromage is thick for me when I start humming “Time in a Bottle” by Jim Croce. And for the weepy, hormonal days – “Show Must Go On”, by Queen. Because Freddy Mercury was dying, and knowing that he was in such bad shape and did the recording in one take (mind you, 3 sheets to the wind), and died soon after. *sniff*
OK! KittensPuppiesBunniesKittensPuppiesBunniesKittens!!!
Even thinking about “The Show Must Go On” breaks my heart. Might as well double up on the tissues and goggle over George Michael and Queen galvanizing concertgoers with “Somebody to Love” at the Freddie Mercury Tribute: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=oYAR8RigqDA
Waaahhhhhhhhhhhh!!! *sniff* *chest heave* *sigh* *sniff*
I CAN NOT believe that Nubs is still at Petsmart!!!!! That nubby tail just knocked my socks off! Why are other peoples’ socks not knocked off?! Boo!
Cheesy song….Total Eclipse of the Heart. The drama! Love it! And thumbs up to the Meatloaf lovers up there – he’s on my cheese list too! ๐
Wow so much to write about today…Glad Andrea and all over at Celestial Kitties are safe thanks to Glitter. Yay for Levine! and great song choices by all of you. I liked Terry Jacks and also Wildfire back in the day (well today too!). I’m not sure which song I should submit as the cheesiest because there are so many. But because of all the things on here, some of us might need a drink, and others need to be toasted, so I am going to put down the Rupert Holmes “Pina Colada song” AKA Escape.
I always think of the Pina Colada song when I’m writing descriptions of the kittens for their cage cards at Petsmart, because I always feel like I’m writing that kind of ad. “Shelton likes long walks on the beach in the rain!” ๐
1979 wasn’t it???
“All Out of Love” by Air Supply and “Open Arms” by Journey.
Don’t judge me. Judge instead the idiots who have not adopted King Nubbs, Shelton, and Koko The Gorgeous.
I know Robyn said no fights but Air Supply is NOT cheese. They are GREAT! (Okay now I have the Frosted Flakes theme running through my head.) LOL!
Love Air Supply…but I will help you judge the non-adopters!!! {{scrunching face into a judgey glare}}
To Bill’s mom and dad: maybe consider a water fountain. I’ve tried a few (and managed to break more than one) but the flowing water tends to get their attention (in some cases) more than just standing water in a dish
cheesy songs – I get going in the car everytime something from Kansas comes on ๐
Cheesy sad song: “Mr. Bojangles” by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. I cry like a baby by the end of it. EVERY. TIME.
YAY for Bill, Levine and Glitter!!! And crossing my fingers that their peeps show up this weekend for Koko, King Nubs and Shelton!!
Oh, Mr. Bojangles! I remember hearing and NOT liking that song before I was in the first grade. Even that young, I was all “Don’t sing about his dog dying!!!” ๐
How about “Me and You and a dog named Boo” for dog songs that are cheesy. Ya know-I can’t think of any cat songs. Do cats not have songs written about them because they are so great, or are the songs just that great that they are not cheesy and I don’t remember them?
What about that poor horse with no name? LOL
Although I don’t consider it a “cheesy” song “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald” makes me cry Every. Single. Time! But I love it so.
Yay Levine!!! Good luck to the others.
love that song
Ditto!
These are some FABULOUS songs, and I’ve been burning up iTunes downloading songs this morning! ๐
PS: Feed Jake, by Pirates of the Mississippi. TEARS FOR DAYS.
PPS: The dog doesn’t die, at least not in the song.
Ohhhh… you can offer Cheesy Song disk at Christmas for $x.xx. ๐
I have to add “Alone Again” by Gilbert O’Sullivan. ๐ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D_P-v1BVQn8
Oh my goodness! The 1970s had so many cheesy songs! How about “Delta Dawn” by Tanya Tucker, or anything by Tony Orlando and Dawn. “Mr. Bojangles” is a good one, amazing how many people have recorded it!
I sing Delta Dawn or You are My Sunshine in the car to the cats that are howling their heads off when we go to the vet’s office! Bwaaaahhhhh
“Wildfire” and “Run Joey Run”. I named my second kitty Joey when I was in the 4th grade ๐
My contribution to the cheese platter would have to be Ambrosia’s How Much I Feel. It always got my broken teenage heart aching!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WZJEQXSIbxI
That came out when I was in college. Great study song! As was Player’s “Baby Come Back”.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hn-enjcgV1o
Looking back to 2013 – the Game of Kate! We are SO going to follow Lady Katy’s tale again – we loved her so much! โIn fact, just because you seem worried that I might have a litter of black kittens that you wonโt be able to tell apart, Iโve decided that thatโs exactly what Iโll do. SO THERE.โ You tell ’em, Kate!
Gotta represent here for “Billy, Don’t Be A Hero”. Keep your pretty head low, Billy.
That’s also a great song. I have it on a playlist of 70’s stuff I like. Gypsys, Tramps and Thieves is also on there. ๐
I remember watching Sonny and Cher (weekly TV show) when I was a kid and loved that song!!
