Sights from around Crooked Acres.
Toasty the rooster, standing in the mud. It’s so muddy in the back forty right now, ugh.
Pretty rooster with no name. Isn’t he gorgeous?
Chickens near the now-full pond. That fence to the left is the back part of the pig yard.
Places to go, things to do, outta my way!
Pretty rooster, flappity-flapping.
Ducks, waiting patiently for their scratch.
Ducks of a feather, sticking together. Always, always together, these four. If one wanders off, one of the other three will stop and call to the fourth, and wait until she (it’s usually one of the girls) comes running, then escorts her back to the group.
I’m pretty sure this is a Housefinch.
Male Housefinch (I think). We’ve got a lot of Finches coming around right now.
Cardinal keeping an eye on me through the glass.
Chickadee and Tufted Titmouse. So CUTE.
Goldfinches. My seedshake brings all the boids to the yard.
Chickadee flapping his wings (and Tufted Titmouse on the other side).
Mister Bluebird in my back yard.
Blurry Bluebird in the foreground, Red-Bellied Woodpecker on the Poltergeist tree (I’ve never actually seen his belly, so I can’t swear that it’s red, for the record.)
I love my bluebird. I just wish he’d stop landing in the back yard where the cats are.
Goldfinch in flight. He kinda looks like he’s walking on air with his wings all tucked away, doesn’t he?
“Okay, you stand still Jake. I’m going to climb on your back and then that bird will be MINE.”
“Yeah, dude, I don’t think so.”
“Well, FINE, if you’re going to be like THAT. I don’t need YOUR help, forgive me for TOUCHING you, you loony bastard!”
“One day, bird, you will be mine ALL MINE.”
“FINALLY. Hey. This isn’t a REAL bird. What the – ?”
“That didn’t taste quite the way I’d expected.”
::fume::
(I love how his eyes match the floor.)
Watching for moles (there was, in fact, a mole in that spot where he was watching. I successfully distracted Joe this time, thankfully.)
sure does love his scratcher, yo.

The birds in your yard are lovely!
Thanks for making me laugh this morning!
Joby-Jo, you’re so handsome-o, but even you get just a little bit blown away by all the avian beauty in today’s post. Forgive me, boy, I know I have sinned.
I just had to let you know that your blog is my favorite among all of my blogs! (I think current count is 30 or so) I look forward to all the pics of the ducks, chickens, dogs, birds at the feeders and of course all your cats and kittens! It makes me want to go out and buy a house with land and create my own “Crooked Acres”!
“My seedshake brings all the boids to the yard” *SNRT* *
*SNRT – a snort made when ones mouth is full of yogurt. Thanks for that discovery Robyn! ๐
I think “Pretty Rooster with no name” could be called “Drum”. He’s got some massive drumsticks, but drumsticks sounds so…not nice…like you might eat him any second. Also – I heart Steel Magnolias. ๐
That is a housefinch, and Red Bellied Woodpeckers don’t have red bellies. ๐ I’m a bit of a bird nerd. ๐
“You loony bastard” made me snort!
I love Joe! He’s so fluffy and cute.
I forgot to say how jealous I am that you have bluebirds. My hubby would kill for bluebirds.
You are such a terrific photographer! Thank you for sharing.
And why, pray tell, is it called the Poltergeist tree?
‘cos it keeps coming back?
Oh how I love all of your bird photos. We moved in late August from a small town and a heavily-wooded lot to a large suburban area. Newer neighborhood… love my house but we have absolutely zero landscaping beyond the grass. We have empty beds for planting and no trees (the only house in the ‘hood without even a single tree). The previous owners had everything in containers and took it all with them. Anyway, I am in major bird, squirrel, and chipmunk withdrawal and anxiously awaiting spring so I can start planting. Now to figure out what to plant to bring the birds….
I can’t tell if that is Lucy or Sally on the blue chair behind jumping Everett, but she makes me giggle!
Oh look at all those lovely birds!! must be your lovely bird feeder song (which made me seriously LOL!)
What in the heck is a poltergeist tree?
LOL at ev standing on jakes back – i take it that was a lucky shot and he didnt stand on him for too long? Though the look on Jakes face is all WTF is going on, whats on me?
Excellent photo collection as usual! Don’t the roosters fight each other? Joe-Bob is super sweet, i would give him lots of kisses. and I particularly like the clever use of:
โMy seedshake brings all the boids to the yardโ. I made a little “huh!” noise. very nice work.
Wonderful shots of the birds at the feeders!
Joby-Joe of the love eyes, I love you! Why do I feel that there should be throngs of screaming (meowing?) girlies being held back from him by armed security guards when he’s walking around?
Jake, you looney bastard MOL!!!!!!!!!
Pretty Joe!! And I love the story about the ducks — everyone (or every duck) needs friends!
