Gets along well with the permanent residents?
Check. In fact, I’d say he has a bit of a crush on Stefan.
Good nap time companion?
Check. (When he feels like it.)
Good looking?
Check, check, and check. (I mean, he’s no Dennis, but that’s a standard of beauty your average kitten can’t hope to achieve. Though – he IS still a kitten (about 9 months old), so maybe he’ll surprise us before all is said and done.)
So we’ve decided to adopt Dustin. I will be totally honest here and tell y’all that I really did not WANT to keep him. I didn’t want to add another cat to the permanent resident register, but…
He gets along so well with the permanent residents, especially Stefan and Dennis and Jake (and Fred swears he caught Dustin and Alice playing together the other morning.)
He’s such a sweet, skittish boy.
I couldn’t stand the thought of sending him off to Petsmart to spend weeks – or worse, months – hiding in his litter box, scared.
We’ve been bouncing back and forth between keeping him pretty much ever since we got him. Fred was willing to do whatever I wanted, and when I got the email from Susan yesterday asking when I was thinking Dustin and Willa could go to Petsmart, we talked about it, I was rock-solid certain that Dustin would be going to Petsmart, and Fred was all “Okay.” … And then I started thinking about Dustin at Petsmart, shaking and hiding in his litter box and I couldn’t stand it, so I emailed her back and told her we would be adopting him.
So here we are at 10 permanent residents again. SIGH. (I should add that I REALLY DID NOT want to keep Dennis, but felt we had no choice – and now I adore that little muffin beyond all reason. I expect in a year I’ll be yammering on about how wonderful Dustin is.)
He sure is pretty, isn’t he?
(As far as his name – it won’t be Dustin, and he doesn’t really seem like a Willis to either of us. We’ve been saying he’s the Gilligan to Stefan’s Skipper, but he doesn’t seem like a Gilligan to us, either. We’ll eventually find his name, but for now I’ll refer to him as Dustin. I’ll let you know what we decide on. Suggestions welcome!)

Lucky Dustin! I’m so happy for all of you. Weren’t you calling him Justin sometimes?
Thank you for making 2016 a far better year — I’m thrilled for this handsome boy and you! You really are amazing, generous people, and I think he-who-is-yet-to-be-named will be a great, loving friend.
congratulations on your new addition and can I just say… I KNEW it!
You’re very good to keep him as a permanent resident. In no time it will be like he was always part of the team. Good luck with the naming – I think that’s the hardest part.
Is that a full year or next year (aka next week) until you are singing his praises? Yay for Dustin!
Awww, what a lovely Christmas present!
Yay! I just knew there was something different about this boy and that you’d not be able to let him go.
I’d give you a name suggestion but I suck at naming cats. For Pete’s sake, I have one named Orange because he’s…orange.
So happy for Dustin! He has found the perfect home with you and Fred and the rest of the permanent residents there:-) Makes my heart happy to see this post this morning. Many happy and healthy wishes to you all!!!
The fact that Fred actually came up with a name for a kitten should have been a tip off. I’m sure, in time, he’ll tell you his name.
If I remember correctly, the Captain referred to Gilligan as “Little Buddy”. So, Buddy?
I’m not sure I actually like it, seems rather boring and ordinary. I’m really not good at choosing names either. I have a had a calico named Callie and a tortie (best cat ever!!) who was named Miss Ugly before she came to me and I didn’t change her name.
Awww yay for Dustin, you, Fred and the perms!!!! 2016 has a least been a good year for kitty adoptions!
Hurray for Dustin! You hit the jackpot Little Buddy! He’s the first addition after your 2015 losses, isn’t he?
Aw, look what Santa brought this year! Congrats on your new forever home, little dude!
Awww. . . you just made my day!
Best. News. Ever. Happy Gotcha Day to Dustin, or whatever his name ends up being. Face it, we all them all manner of other things besides their names anyway, so it may not really matter… He really is a handsome little guy, and a wonderful addition. I don’t think any kitten who has Uncle Stefan to learn the ropes from can ever complain, that’s for sure. Wishing happy, silly, snuggly days ahead for all!
Yay for Dustin!
I really was kidding when I said he and his bed should stay or start a pool to see how long this decision would take. Yay for Dustin or whatever his name will be. I know what you mean about not wanting to add. I stayed at 5 for over a decade when Raven came along but after seeing her at Petsmart getting cranky I brought her home and we were 6. My house is smaller than yours and there’s only me. But now we are 4 cats so Raven was meant to be and so was Dustin. Congrats!
Happy Gotcha Day Dustin!!! (no, I’m not laughing….why do you ask?)
Wonderful news to wake up to. Settle in, Dustin, you’ve hit the jackpot of homes.
Aw, the heart wants what the heart wants. Karma can be a mean witch but she can also be benevolent and generous to those who deserve. And if anyone deserves wonderful Karma (and have certainly earned it) it is you and Fred. Thank you for all the kind deeds you do and for inspiring countless others to help our animal friends however we can. Love you guys.
Was there ever any doubt? Really?!?!
Awww, such a nice surprise to read today! No, didn’t think you would keep any more!! so glad he’s staying. Made my day, too!
Looking forward to seeing what his ‘real’ name is.
You almost admitted to it last week and I posted a comment to that effect, then deleted it. Then I never re-wrote it. He was just too friendly with all the others and you didn’t seem to mind………….The narrative was sounding like Dennis’. Whatever, we’re glad he fits in.
I had a feeling!!!! Welcome to Cooked Acres, gorgeous boy!!!
Lucky, lucky, LUCKY Kitty Dustin!!!!!! Happy for the little feller AND ya’ll…he’ll be so loved and have lots of adopted siblings to enjoy.
🙂 Congrats to what’s-his-name. Which of course makes me think of the TV show Bewitched. Endora was always calling Samantha’s husband Darrin other names. She often called him Darwood and What’s-his-name. So any of those?
Not too surprised I must admit! Love it!! Name idea….? Darby… Irish boy’s name meaning ‘Without envy’… He blends in so well with all, not an envious bone in that boy’s little body! Dennis and Darby… It also reminds me a bit of missed and beautiful Corbie’s name… More distinguished and unique than Dustin… Whatever he is called, he will forever be called with Love in your Home!! Purrfect ending to his story! And a beginning to our fun of watching him grow with you!
Seconded, I love Darby and its origin. Whatever you name this sweet boy, congratulations!
Good for you & Dustin. You need 2 more so the residents calendar has a different pin-up every month. Maybe you can call him Claus since you added him to the gang like Santa and he has claws.
I knew it!!!!!!! Congrats!
Gonna suggest the name Amos because he was originally a soft hearted guilt adoption too- and now I can’t imagine life without him. Also, he looks a little like my Amos. My other suggestion is Boris, his brother who got adopted and led me to aforementioned soft touch adoption. 🙂
***. Sigh ***. Oh Robyn, another foster failure.
I couldn’t be more pleased!
You could name him Georgie in tribute to the new movie that Fred is all excited about. I am not naming the movie in fear speaking the name will make that movie suck.
So I’m reading this with three black torbies sprawled around me, and we’re all thrilled for the new guy! Congrats, Robyn, Fred and soon-to-be The Cat Formerly Known As Dustin!!!!
So happy for Crooked Acres and Dustin!! YAY!!
A year, huh? Or maybe tomorrow? Congratulations to everyone!
I’m thrilled for Dustin! We are also foster failures, having kept three of the six we fostered some years ago. I’m currently reading “The Magicians” trilogy (I’m on the third book), so I’m going to suggest Quentin. Darby and Darwood sound like good names also, especially since so many of your charges have gotten their “Kravitz” on! Whatever name you settle on, though, it has to be whatever Fred will call him, so that will be important!
Kravitz would be an awesome kitty name!
Great news!
Wonderful news! I had a fleeting thought or two that this might happen, but didn’t dare say anything.
I can’t believe I got the news from Fred’s FB page first, though! Got to start checking here first thing!
Lots of love to you all!
Yay!!! I don’t know who I’m happier for… Dustin (for now), you or us??? I just know I’m soooooo happy to hear this! Congratulations Fred & Robyn and Congratulations Dustin! Well Done! and Thank YOU!
Congrats to all. As for names, well, if Stefan is a Shaggy kinda dude, maybe Dennis could be Scooby Doo?
Congrats! I have to say that this doesn’t really surprise me – he seemed like he belonged from the very beginning!
Dustin is truly beautiful and statuesque. I’m so happy for all of you! Thank you for a wonderful year for the most creative, interesting, and heartfelt blog that I know of. You ought to do a book. You have also restored my sanity and brought me so much cheerfulness every day with your humor and compassion. So, once again, thank you!
Wow!! How wonderful for you, Dustin, and the Anderson family. I must say I never would have guessed that you’d add Dustin to the permanent residents. <3
You could pick the name of a famous sidekick if he is to be a sidekick to Stefan…like Sancho Panza, or Kato (to the Green Hornet) or Dr Watson.
Yay for Dustin!!! Little known fact, Gilligan’s first name would have been Willy if they’d used it in the show because Bob Denver said he just seemed like a Willy. However, not sure that he looks like a Willy either.
Aw, Dustin! Love those tabby boys! And I think Boudreau is a good name!
Dustin just won the lotto!!!
