Today is Boxing Day! According to Wikipedia:
Boxing Day is a holiday traditionally celebrated the day following Christmas Day, when servants and tradespeople would receive gifts, known as a “Christmas box”, from their bosses or employers, in the United Kingdom, Canada, Hong Kong, Australia, New Zealand, Kenya, South Africa, Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica and other Commonwealth nations. Today, Boxing Day is the bank holiday that generally takes place on 26 December.
Which, you know, is a nice story and all, Wikipedia, but I’m pretty sure the entire internet knows what Boxing Day is REALLY all about.
Jethro, the first one in the box. That’s shocking. NOT.
This box had been sitting in the kitchen for about a month before I carried it upstairs, so I’m sure it smelled like many different permanent residents.
A little confused, our Stevie.
I bet she’s half in love with Tommy, just from smelling him on the box.
Pat ventured out of the closet to get a bit possessive about the box, going so far as to smack Lizzy (who didn’t take offense.)
The look on Pat’s face is killing me dead.
More sniffing. Is the smell stronger on the outside of the box, or the inside? They’ll never tell.
Molly, quite pleased with herself.
And of course they had to knock it over on its side. Look how perfectly Jethro fits in that box! 😉

It’s Grandma Poo in a box! She might be elderly, but she’s still got those box-sitting skillz.
Corbie fits pretty perfectly in that box.

Love the Boxing Day theme!!
…and LOVE those cats and kittens!!
Love your version of Boxing Day. I hope you and yours had a wonderful Christmas.
I love Corbie with his chin over the edge of the box. Why is it that so many cats love to hang their heads over uncomfortable things like sides of boxes and chair rungs?
My kitchen floor is strewn with boxes for sitting. They have all been tested. One is currently a nap object for my oldest. I think they approve.
I have a new appreciation for Boxing Day now!
Just reading this today (still catching up on my reading after the holidays!), and I’ve looked, but I can’t find the answer (or I skimmed too quickly and didn’t catch it) — what’s up with Pat’s tail in the “starting to get crowded” photo? Is it just the angle or is it wonky? It reminds me of when one of our girls had ringworm and lost all the fur in one 1/2 inch ring about an inch from the tip of her tail… It was so sad and cute (and gross, because, ugh, ringworm).
She had something icky stuck in her tail furs, so I had to do a trim. It kind of looks like a paint brush to me. 🙂
