Dewey (pictures taken while we were still at Crooked Acres.)
It cracks me up that in posts from a year ago, he was still “Dustin.” He is such a Dewey.
Flirting with the ceiling fan.
Keeping an eye on the birds outside.
Mid-summer flop on the end of the driveway while keeping Fred company.
Boy, I had a ton of pictures of Dewey at Crooked Acres.
Dewey has been sneezing and snuffling for the past couple of months. A course of antibiotics seemed to help, but it came back. At this point, he’s been through three courses of (different) antibiotics, and he’s still sneezing. Frankie started sneezing and snuffling a few weeks ago, and antibiotics didn’t do a thing for him. Yesterday we started them both on Famciclovir, an antiviral, in case it’s herpes. At this point it’s too soon to know if it’ll help, but I’ll try to remember to report back in a month and let y’all know. (Thankfully, none of the other cats seem to be affected by whatever this is; Maxi was snuffly for a couple of days, but it passed and she’s fine now.)

Video! Dewey (at Crooked Acres), trying his best to grab the feather teaser. There’s a moment of Frankie toward the end, too. The open mouth cracks me UP.

Dewey is one photogenic little man! I love the picture where he’s flirting with the ceiling fan lol.
He really is a photogenic boy!
Dewey is a pretty boy!
With Herpes, they often sneeze for a few weeks and they stop on their own. Some cats do not ever have symptoms, some are just carriers, some only when stressed (all the activity of selling/buying homes?), some extreme (ulcerated eyes, snot running out their nose, etc). Most cats from a shelter/rescue have been exposed at some point.
Could the sniffles be allergies? It’s a question-I have no idea. Can cats have allergies?
Yes they can! Seasonal allergies, food allergies, flea allergies, etc.
Yes, we’ve had cats with allergies before, but they don’t usually last this long.
Jake is such a handsome cat. What is his story? He reminds me of my boy Rocky who I lost to cancer when he was only 8. Jake is a darker grey, is he part Norwegian short hair?
He and his brother Elwood (who died of FIP 5 years ago today) were left on our doorstep one Saturday morning while we were gone. I don’t know if he’s got Norwegian short hair in him – he’s a mystery man to me. 🙂 (I’m trying to convince Fred that we need to DNA test all the cats, but he’s resisting!)
Has it been five years? Feels like the blink of an eye. Still have to check captions if it’s jake or Elwood
I know, I can’t believe it’s been so long!
FYI on the famcicovir….it can take 30 days to notice any difference and may take 2 rounds.
So you’re saying Fred needs to stop hovering over Dewey, trying to determine if he’s any better after two doses? 😀
The boys are still eating well, though, right?
Eating, playing, snuggling – acting completely like themselves, just sneezing while they do it!
I found my kids, our cats and I get sniffy and sneezy after we move to a new place. Then our bodies adjust to the new environment.
This started long before we moved.
