Attention please: Someone sent me the incubator off of my Amazon wish list – if that was you, would you please email me at mizrobyn (at) gmail.com so that I can thank you? Usually Amazon includes a note with a link where I can send an email, but this time they did not. (If you prefer to remain anonymous, please know that I am SO very appreciative – it’s nice to have in case I need it, and I’m sure we’re going to need it sooner or later!)

I love how in the first pic of Janeway on top of the scratcher, there’s a little spot of sun on the wall to the left and you can see the silhouette of another cat’s head in it (Spock, I suspect). Very cute!
I love that too – I meant to point it out when I posted it, but forgot. I’m glad you noticed!

Ok, this is a strange (not mean) question, but how do you know when/if a queen’s milk has dried up? Won’t the little ones be squirmy and noisy? I don’t know but think that as a foster person, I should know. This would be a good lesson for many of us to learn.
If she’d been here with me, I would have definitely noticed when the kittens stopped gaining weight (I weigh them daily), if not before, and would have started supplementing immediately. The lady who had them – who actually isn’t a foster, just someone who saw M’Lynn in a tiny carrier in the sun at a flea market and was trying to rescue her – isn’t experienced with tiny kittens. Since there was a mother present with them, I think she assumed that they’d be fine. By the time she realized what was going on, they’d already started dying.

Is there a chance that M’lynn’s milk might come back in, or is it too late?
I had hoped that getting some food into M’Lynn would help her start to produce milk, but at this point I don’t think it’s likely. Between being underweight and struggling with giardia and coccidia, her body doesn’t seem to be on board with producing milk again.

Has Khal been dressed for Halloween yet? Or any occasion? I can’t see him agreeing to wear anything for more than 1/2 second!
Khal would absolutely not put up with wearing a tie or a hat – he’d be OUTTA THERE if I even thought about trying it!

Robyn, have you ever used a Shakespeare theme for naming your fosters? Shelby makes me think of a line about Hermia in A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM: “Though she be but little, she is fierce.”
We had the Players in 2014 – Angelo, Ferdinand, Maria, Mariette, Orlando and Dennis. Though Shakespeare was prolific enough that I’m sure I could repeat the theme with all new names!

I’m trying to understand how you’re not squishing Shelby to death every day.
That girl sets off my cute aggression, for sure. I have not squooshed her yet, but I am always tempted!

JANEWAY AND SPOCK ARE ADOPTION PENDING AND WILL BE GOING HOME (TOGETHER) ON MONDAY! I am so excited for them, and so excited for their adopter! I don’t know if they’ll be keeping their names or if there’ll be a Facebook or Instagram page for them, but I will be sure to ask the adopter and let y’all know.
Janeway was in her box playing with a spring, and Uncle Charlie had to come see what was going on.
Janeway said “Uncle Charlie, I don’t think this box is big enough for both of us.”
“And you are very rude.” (Check out Spock, sniffing Charlie’s tail.)
Charlie likes to hang out in the foster room and check out the kittens’ toys. (He also REALLY likes to poop in their litter box, but that is neither here nor there.)
Spock gives Charlie the ol’ snifferoo.
Janeway gives Charlie the side-eye.
I think we’re gonna need a bigger pie plate. Charlie really fills that thing up!
It’s a Charlie pot pie (my favorite!)

Shelby’s all “Whattaya MEAN I’ve got to come out there to get my bottle? I want crate service!”
M’Lynn is ready, willing, and able to assist.
After every bottle, I put Shelby in the litter box in case she has to go. Sometimes she pees, and sometimes she noms on some litter and then climbs out of the litter box to ptui litter all over the place. Sometimes she does both!

Posted on social media (Facebook/Twitter/Instagram/Tumblr) yesterday.
Shelby gets the cleanup.
To answer the questions: Shelby and M’Lynn are doing well. Weight-wise, Shelby has gone from 142 g (5 oz) last Wednesday to 260 g (9.2 oz) last night. She has figured out how to latch onto the bottle, but (in my opinion) she doesn’t consume enough formula on her own, so I top her off with the syringe once she’s done with the bottle. She’s used the litter box a couple of times, and I have seen her eating kibble (Royal Canin Babycat) at least 3 different times.
M’Lynn went to the vet Tuesday and has both giardia and coccidia. Both are common around here and not unexpected since we don’t really know what her living situation was like before she was rescued from the flea market, though we can assume it wasn’t great. She’s now on meds, and hopefully things will start straightening up. I haven’t weighed her in a couple of days, but can tell she’s put on some weight.
Yes, Shelby probably needs some age-appropriate playmates, and perhaps in the future we’ll see about making that happen. For now she has her mother to teach her her manners and play with her (there’ve been a few gentle rounds of slappy paws.)
JANEWAY AND SPOCK ARE ADOPTION PENDING AND GOING HOME MONDAY!! 🎉🎉
TBT: 🎶JUST HEAR THOSE SLEIGH BELLS JINGLING RING-TING-TINGLING TOOOOO. 🎶
It’s Thlurrrpsday, and M’Lynn has perfect form (would you expect anything less?)

While Shelby sleeps, M’Lynn lies in a cat bed with a stuffed rat and purrs and purrs. As you do!
Good night innernets. (Shelby; mama M’Lynn is busy eating and will rejoin Shelby when she’s done.)

Omg Shelby hanging out of the litter box. How is she so adorable!?
Charlie’s eyes of lurve!!!! Charlie one big boy. I luv how he stuffs himself into the box and pie plate, “I still fits, so I sits”.
Janeway’s tail is looooooong!! Girl needs to grow into it now, LOL.
Shelby expecting crate service, LOL. Hanging out of the litterbox ptui litter, typically kitten. So good to see your tender loving care is working for her and Momma M’Lynn.
Bless the original rescuer of M’Lynn, Shelby, and Shelby’s angel siblings. I hope she’s eventually sent pictures of the happy, healthy, much-loved kitties these two become. That’s not an insistence or a passive aggressive hint, I promise, it’s just an idea because losing five kittens is a recipe for heartbreak. Am I making any sense?
Yaaaaay adoption pending! 😀 Does anybody else routinely think of this duo as Janeway and Tuvock? I grew up watching both Voyager and DS9, and it shows. 🙂
I just want to cuddle with lapkitty M’Lynn. Do you think she’d object to random friendly Internet nerdladies cuddling with her?
I suspect M’Lynn will cuddle with anyone who wants a cuddle! I don’t know what her story is from before she was rescued from the flea market, but it’s clear that someone at some point was kind to her, because she’s a real people lover.
Unca Charlie using the kitten litter box for poops immediately made me think of Creed from The Office who used the ladies’ room for #2 (and he paid dearly lol) Have you ever done an Office-themed litter?
What a generous gift! That incubator has been a game changer for my rescue. Kitten mortality dropped like a stone. I think anyone that works with neonates on the scale you do should have one.
Wow an incubator!! What a generous gift- thank you to whoever sent it from this longtime L&H follower!
