Crooked Acres Wednesday
Ducks on the pond. Remember way back when we first got the ducks and they refused to go out to the pond?
That male duck’s always got somethin’ to say.
Not bad for a picture shot through a dirty window, huh?
Okay, I’ve got a few creepy-crawly pictures (spiders, cicada), so click here if you want to skip them. And then I’ll put a little space so you don’t accidentally see them.
A
little
space
for
the
anti-
creepy-
crawly
contingent
Is
that
enough?
Maybe
a
little
more.
Okay.
That
should
do
it.
Guess what? Spider butt! We didn’t have a Dolores this year, but (butt!) this spider took refuge in a windchime on the front porch for a couple of days before she moved on.
Cicada and its discarded shell, hanging out on the side of the chimney (outside). We had a lot of cicadas in the house this summer, because Dewey is an expert cicada catcher.
Spiny Orb Weaver. I think these things are SO cool.
This toad (toad? frog? I don’t know which) was napping on the fence one afternoon.
His eyes are SO cool. He snoozed for a while and then headed on his way.
Okay, that’s it for the creepy-crawlies.
Now we need to make space.
Lest
someone
catch
sight
of
a
spider
or
a
toad
or
a
cicada
and
or
whatnot.
I
hate
it
when
I
inadvertently
catch
sight
of
a
whatnot,
personally.
Okay! Now on to the chickens?
Cruella. Not doing too badly for a 9 year old chicken, eh?
Harold, taking flight from the pond. (Look a little to the left of center to see him.)
Rooster, keeping an eye on the wimminfolk.
Our Meyer Lemon tree is going to give us about 20 lemons this year!

“HUMAN. What are you DOING outside? You know it’s not safe out here! Go back inside before I ticket you!” Sheriff Mama (Kara) isn’t foolin’ around.

I heart Kara! She’s just the awesomest!
And, how old is your lemon tree? It seems really small for that many lemons, so what, exactly, do you do to make it so productive?
Kara ain’t fooling! Although she does look so damn cute she’d be writing me a ticket and I’d be all “aw, look at the widdle itty bitty cute little face on that ticket writing Sheriff and *tickle tickle tickle* Sheriff Cutey Pie…”. Not sure that’d go over well.
Hahahaha, Sheriff Cutey Pie. Love Kara. I love the spidey pics. They are so cool looking and do good work from pretty much no pay. The Orb Weaver is definitely cool. As long as they stay outside I am happy to coexist. I think that is a toad. Usually they have the bumpier skin.
MWAH to Sheriff Mama. Always my favorite!
I am definitely an arachnophobe, but for some reason I can look at your creepy crawly pictures. Maybe because I know Sheriff Mama will keep me safe?
Who the heck is Harold? An egret?
Also, that’s an orb spinner? It looks like something from a Godzilla movie. So compact.
Looks like a blue heron.
geez- the sheriff has a grumpy this morning 🙂
Awesome pictures as usual! I don’t mind the spider pics. I can kind of do without cicadas (but I scrolled fast-like). Please don’t ticket me Sheriff Cutie-Pie!
I didn’t realize chickens lived so long….
I really enjoyed the Crooked Acres update. And the Spiny Orb Weaver is fabulous!
Did you loose 2 ducks? I remember you saying that one was killed. Did the other fly away?
Wow, I do NOT like spiders but that little Orb weaver is cute. Well, once you get past the daggers on his back. I’ve never seen one of those. Probably too cold here in Minnesota.
Not that I don’t love seeing what’s happening at Crooked Acres but um, when are you going to have more kittens?
Well now after seeing Facebook, I’m a little verklempt looking at this post… :’)
I’m a true animal lover and just love these photos. I think spiders are so cool. The rooster and hens and duck and Sheriff Mama. Saved this page for one of my Favorites. Thanks again for all the energy you put in to doing this all the time. Always brightens up my day so much!
I can’t believe Cruella is 9!!!!
I cannot believe Cruella is NINE! 🙂
